Hi, Tom. I am Mexican and this is the first time I see horchata mixed with “chocolate Abuelita” (it means granny). It’s not necessary to add the chocolate, you can make the rice drink with the mixed milks and the cinnamon, that's it. There's another more traditional version of horchata with cantaloupe seeds instead of rice. You drink it with a few chunks of cantaloupe and lots of ice and you have a very fresh drink. Mason jars are not the traditional way to drink it. We drink it from regular glasses or from huge thick glass containers called “chabelas” which look like giant wine glasses.

Also you can buy packets of horchata, there’s this brand called Klass. I think you’d really like it, all you have to do is add water! The water doesn’t have to be hot. There also are other brands, I’m pretty sure Goya made one, but instead you have to add hot milk.
