How are you studying at school? I started using Duolingo, another language-learning app and Swedish crime stories for beginners, but some parts of that language are so counter-intuitive to me that it's a bit hard.
@@niklasl3880 I've started with Duolingo as well but while it teaches you words, you don't learn the grammatics which is one of the most important aspects. Now, after a year of studying at university with a native teacher, I'm already at level B1!
It’s interesting hearing it in Swedish and seeing the translation as a Dutch speaker. We have many similar words that are pronounced differently but mean the same thing. So I recognise more words than I expected actually.
Cool! Yeah I guess that's the case with German and Swedish too. So for me for example, I can guess the meaning of many German words, but only when they're written, not spoken.
@@ASMRctica lol that’s the same for me in Swedish. Though Swedish pronunciation is more or less doable if you find out how certain letters are pronounced. With Danish however it sounds like gibberish compared to what I read, I really have no clue 😂
This is so great! I'm a massive fan of Nordic mythology. I've just recently read The Poetic Edda in English and have just bought a book of Icelandic Sagas, so this is a fun blend of ASMR and one of my favourite topics! Thanks so much for this! What does swedish sound like to Norwegians? As in what kind of vibe does the language have. I know for example Danish is known for sounding very harsh.
@@BigmanDogs Damn that’s a good question. To me Swedish is usually the language that sounds the most harsh/grating, Danish just sounds like you’re speaking Norwegian with something stuck in your throat. Swedish is a bit harder to explain, it just sounds like Swedish. It has a few more words I don’t understand than Danish does. I imagine Portuguese, Italian and Spanish speakers have kind of the same experience when it comes to recognizing eachothers languages. They all sound a bit like just different dialects of your own language.
I really appreciate you taking the time to make translations even if I personally did not need them. That must have taken forever! Please read more stories :). These are perfect - Educational and relaxing 😌❤. I also strongly suggest reading swedish tongue twisters 😁. White Winter Whispers did them in Finnish and I would love to hear Swedish ones 😊.

Hey, So glad to hear you enjoy this video and these topics :) Yeah, I think German is one of the languages that's easiest for me to understand intuitively, but only when it's written, I think I need more practice to be able to understand spoken german. But it's interesting to see so many similarities in a lot of words.

English, Spanish, Italian, German, French but not Swedish… Yet. It might take me a year or so to learn but it seems very interesting with it’s pronunciations and accents. It’s truly fascinating.

Fascinating tales. It's funny how these myths are almost comical in some sense. The characters, particularly Thor, have a juvenile lightheartedness about their antics, usually with violent conclusions, but silly nonetheless. Makes you really wonder about the writers and story-tellers that birthed these pieces. But, I love this stuff, so entertaining. Very good video!

It's difficult for me (who talk swedish) to understand Icelandic, but when I read and take a look at separate icelandic words in detail, it's clear that the languages are related.
So you guys are like cousins, and you two mutually understand a bit in terms of writings but not in spoken forms , I see.. always wanting to learn Scandinavian language particularly Icelandic.
Interesting how Ask and Embla are the first humans the gods created in Norse mythology whereas Adam and Eve were the ones from the catholo-christian mythology. I wonder if there's a correlation between the religions as to why their names both start with A and E sounds?

I'm not sure that exactly this compilation is available in English, but the stories are from "Poetic Edda" and "Prose Edda". I know that Jackson Crawford has translated a lot of these stories lately, so you could check out his books. :)
First of all, mad respect for translating this entire thing. Second of all, as a German it’s pleasantly surprising how many words I can understand without knowing a thing about Swedish, I didn’t think our language was that similar because they’re so much further north! Danke Bruder, mach weiter so!
