The 1s are already set for the top right square on the upper left side. So there needed to be a 1 for the vertical row she just filled in.

Imma be honest I was stuck on this for half an hour bc the line she drew makes no sense to me But this comment finally helped me figure out bless

@@quatmdo0r558 To add on: In the top left box, the 1 could only be in the bottom left, or bottom middle square. Additionally, in the middle left box, the 1 could only be in the top left or top middle square. Therefore, there must be a 1 in either one of those left or middle squares meaning that in the bottom left box, the 1 had to be in the right column. As there was already a 1 on the bottom row and the bottom middle box could only have a 1 in the middle row, the 1 in the bottom left box had to be in the top right. I hope this makes sense.

Her explanation makes sense when you look at the entire middle column rather than the box like I was! Vertically, there was no where else for the 4 to go in that left middle column. The section of it in the bottom left box was already filled, the top left box already had a 4, and the other two slots in the middle left box were blocked by the 4s in the middle and right middle boxes. I hope that makes sense!
