My name is Duncan and I am a Maths Graduate in Scotland with a passion for maths and relaxation! I am an ASMR RU-vidr and plan to go on to teach maths at high school level in the coming years. For exercises like number 5 we learned it in formula form, since you can then skip the first lines you did and get your answer faster: (a+b)² = a² + 2ab + b² Or (a-b)² = a² - 2ab + b²

Yes, this formula works well! Different methods can be faster, I don’t actually use the CLAW or F.O.I.L. I tend to just expand by inspection but the formula is very useful!

My high school algebra teacher taught us with what she called a “Bergman box” her last name was Bergman lol but it was pretty much a punnet square and it was really helpful and very easy.

I'm a bit late but Question 17 is incorrect.. When subtracting, he made a mistake.. It should have gone as follows: 6a + 12b = -21 - 6a - 10b = 34 = 22b = -55 (He didn't write the negative) 22b = -55 b = -55/22 = -5/2 = -2.5 (I'll do decimal form because it's easier imo) Then you substitute it in to one of the equations: 2a + 4b = -7 2a + 4(-2.5) = -7 2a - 10 = -7 2a = 3 a = 3/2 = 1.5 Then you can check using the other equation if you want to: 3a - 5b = 17 3(1.5) - 5(-2.5) = 17 4.5 + 12.5 = 17 17 = 17 If a = -8.5, this would happen: 3a - 5b = -38 ≠ 17

I’m thinking maybe one day if you are aware or were curious of it, something quite different is…programming mathematics. It is basically doing the binary or hexadecimal calculations or even Boolean logic gates. Even it it’s just the basic problems maybe? If not that’s ok, but it is all another set of maths technically. There are technically equations with it and falls under algebra again in a way, even if very basic conditional or loop statement functions.
