ASMR speaking Old Norse to you, softly, at night

In this video, I am using the reconstructed 1200s old norse pronounciation to read the first couple of chapters of the saga of Orvar-Odd. I am using this transcription of the medieval manuscript from heimskringla.no, which is free to use:

I didn't find an english translation that was free online, but here's a short synopsis of the saga:

I'm from western Norway, and my dialect alone allows me to understand part of this. BUT: I probably pronounce a lot words wrong, and I haven't ever studied old norse.
This video is mostly meant for relaxation and sleep aid. To listen to a soft voice speaking a language you don't understand can help you fall asleep easier than if you understand the content. You can imagine yourself listening to a fireside storyteller on a warm summer night somewhere in Norway a thousand years ago.

This is very beautiful! And yes, you are right - a text spoken in an unknown language leeds to sleeps much easier since you don't have to concentrate on the content. Plus, the athmosphere here is hauntingly beautiful with the soft wind and Adrian's Nordic 'violin' in the back. Thanks!

This is very soothing and calming to listen to. I'm sure I could fall asleep to it quite readily. It reminds me somewhat of a few spoken portions of some of the Wardruna albums I have listened to, specifically the spoken portions. It also brings to mind some of the Old Norse lines from the movie "The Thirteenth Warrior." And strangely enough, it also reminds me of some of the speaking performances I have been so fortunate to hear by a friend of mine (described as being 'so intelligent it's not even fair'), who has taught herself to speak quite easily in Old English. She has memorized a number of old poems in that language, and even engaged in a personal project to translate a complete copy of "The Hobbit" into Old English. Listening to your quiet recitation from this Norse saga...it reminds me of a handful of times that I have sat in my shop or by a fire and listened to my friend holding forth in Old English. Pray tell, do you have plans to do further readings of the sagas in Old Norse?

I may be wrong but apparently old English and old Norse were similar enough to allow communication between the two peoples due to the Germanic roots they shared

Hi there. Trying to legitimately learn old norse and found a couple people saying what you said. So my question is,if I want to learn old norse,should I just learn Icelandic instead? Or,is that just a good place to start?

@midnytespectre2952 it doesn't really matter which one you learn because old Norse is basically just Icelandic, but I do think old Norse would be a better option.

You can start learning like Swedish or Norwegian both are closely related and should help learning old Norse/Icelandic as many of the words are similar

I often find that Old Norse (pronounced by modern speakers) sounds in tone quite Swedish or Norwegian. Obviously Icelandic is much closer linguistically. But just the way the vowel sounds/tonality comes out. It's DEFINITELY not danish at least. Huehueh! Also I can understand a fair bit of it too.

Well you know, the Norwegians and swedish were the last of the Vikings to fall to the Christian bastards. While the danish were the first as they were weak. Tho we didnt help much as we were busy raiding eachother as a bunch of crazy berserkers lol

Started listening yo a band that sings about Norse Mythology and it made me wonder of there was any kind of Norse ASMR. This almost feels as calm as Russian, good stuff.
