Now onto the VIDEO - wooo i am sO glad I filmed this one, because it means MY HOSPITAL BAGS HAVE BEEN PACKED! And that is HUGE for me… my literal weakness in life is packing. I overpack, it takes me forever, I never feel like I’m bringing the right things, I always feel like I’m forgetting something… so this actually took me 2 days… had a huge Target run :) And I am SO relieved that this is complete! Hey, all I need to do is turn it into a video idea and all of a sudden my brain is like “yes”
Parents of RU-vid, how did I do?!??! Anything I should add, or take away???
Some of my due date groups online are starting to literally have their babies already… I’m like… bruh NO, PLEASE STAY IN THERE LITTLE BUDDY, WE’RE NOT DONE WITH SHREK YET… KEEP COOKING…
But I hope you enjoy this little update and bag tour! I hope it’s entertaining at the least c:
Sleep well!!!

Not many people think of this. A notebook & pen - write down little notes, thoughts, feelings, observations. You’ll be tired, busy, etc, but there are times you’re wide awake & baby is asleep. It’s such a full time that flies past, these little notes are great for memories.

YES. Even during labor - write everything down. It was such a blur I went back to my notes the next morning and had forgotten a lot of the details and was glad I’d recorded the process.
@CallishaMarie
@CallishaMarie 2 дня назад
Seriously THIS - I had my husband write down a lot of the details, cuz I was kinda busy laboring and stuff 😂 my L&D nurse was the BEST, buuuuuuut it’s possible she wrote the wrong birth time on my baby’s first footprints commemorative certificate, so thankfully we kept track of details like that. ALSO ALSO, super important to write down if you had any complications for ANY reason (ie. Adverse bodily response to medication given, etc.) so that you can bring up in discussions with your doc in the future if you have more children!

Make sure that your juice boxes aren't red. A nurse told me before that she was ok with me drinkigg any clear liquid while I had an epidural, except red. She wanted to know if I threw up whether or not there was blood in it and red dyes make that hard to see 😬 I'm not far into the vid yet, so maybe you cover it. But bring the ugliest granny panties you find 2 sizes too big. You'll be grateful when theres room for all of the pads and ice packs in there 😅 Also, for the hospital and also general post partum... Expect to wear maternity clothes for a while after. Bring them to the hospital. Dont even try pre-baby pants or even go shopping for new clothes until several months after the baby. Nothing hits the mental health like feeling ok enough to try real clothes and then tanking when they never fit or fit the same way again. The hospital usually gives you a HUGE water cup with a straw, but not chapstick. The medicines and stuff make you sooo thirsty and dry. I saw the epipens, and maybe thats an exception, but every hospital i was at didnt allow outside medications. Everything you take, even over the counter tums, they want to go through their pharmacy and distribute so that they know every thing youve taken in case of some emergency or something. Bring extra pillows and possibly a blanket or two for you AND Ben. The blankets they give you are meh, but they didnt give anything to my husband at one of the hospitals i gave birth at. This got pretty long 😅 But im so excited for you!!

Also, as I watch along.... Idk if my comb actually helped me much, but it became like an emotional support object. I kept asking for it and squeezing it and having a task was at least a little distraction. The actual pressure points I don't think really worked, but a job/distraction helped. Until I broke it 😬

A little bit of advice: When you start to go into labor, unless you are heavily drugged (for either an epidural or a c-section), everyone will annoy you. EVERYONE. They will annoy you in ways you never thought possible. So let them know in advance that yelling might be happening and it's really hard to take care of other people's feelings when you're having labor. That was hard. The second thing is if you are on meds you will be given ice chips only. That's what I remember, though I'm not sure why. Maybe because they didn't want me to have anything in case they had to put me under. When you have a baby your entire world changes overnight, needless to say, so you'll probably not need a lot of stuff because your focus will be 100% on the baby or on labor pains. BUT if you have an epidural you'll be sitting there and you will probably be able to use the stuff you bring. Just keep in mind this: it's hard. It's harder than anyone ever tells you it is. The hard part isn't giving birth (although it can be) it's learning how to take care of a baby and it can be overwhelming and depressing. Just have faith in yourself. We aren't parents. We become parents. It's a process. You got this. Just remember: and this too shall pass. They grow up fast. Enjoy every minute that you aren't losing your mind. You got this mama!

As a non-parent, it sounds like part of figuring out how to care for your specific child is a bit like the scientific method? “Okay, we’ll try this, with the goal of [insert health, behavioral, nurturing, etc goal here]. Did it work? No, try something else. Did it work? Sort of, modify. Did it work? Yes, and it turns out not in this specific circumstance. Did it work and did it also not have negative repercussions after the fact? Oops, we learn and we move on.” Is that kind of right? Putting it like that sounds like a looot of work, respect to parents that throw their hearts (and backs) into it

My 8* biggest tips are 1) During labour have a flexible birth plan. Idk the rules where you’re giving birth but I recommend not giving birth on your back if you’re not having an epidural. Hands and knees made the pain much more bearable and made the birth very quick. 2) If your hospital has a midwife led birth centre use it they’re amazing and a much more relaxed environment. 3) Breatheee and try to make the experience as relaxed as possible. 4) Use gas and air/entonox if it’s available though I know in the US it’s rare. 5) Ask your midwife if they apply a warm compress during the pushing stage. It not only prevents tearing but feels so relieving during the “ring of fire” stage. 6) After labour the recovery room is always cold. I had an early November baby but was still shivering and I wish I brought a sweatshirt/my own blanket. 7) Use that peri bottle and fill it with warm water. Don’t use tissue esp if you have stitches it gets caught 😢 8) TMI but eat lots of Kiwis and high fibre fruits so the first 💩 is as painless as possible.

YESS!! DO NOT LIE ON YOUR BACK IT ISNT NATURAL AND CAUSES RIPPING AND MUCH MORE PAIN DURING LABOR! Feel it out with your body but naturally/historically you SQUAT! Look up why women lay down (it has nothing to do with women).
@alexia3552
@alexia3552 2 дня назад
Dude, clutch advice. This covers so many things I wouldn’t have thought to ask about (haven’t had a child myself). Please correct me on these if I’m wrong: From stories around the internet, I’ve also heard people recommended insisting on local anesthetic if you need stitches afterward, don’t tolerate being treated like you don’t have feelings. Easier said than done when you’re in pain and exhausted, that’s where having your advocate in the room is very helpful. But those are bad-case scenarios. Is it possible to have a conversation with the L&D people before the day of the birth? And like, get some things in writing and get to know their attitude toward mothers in labor? Also, how do you handle all the bleeding post-partum while the uterine lining is exiting your body? I’ve also heard women reporting that they weren’t advised beforehand how heavy it would be and how long it would last. (And also again some unfortunate stories of women being dismissed when they reported the bleeding was scary heavy or painful or clotted, I get so upset at women being dismissed in healthcare sorry to dump here =x ).

As a mom of 2 who loves to be prepared, I packed a ton for my 1st baby, and I am so grateful I did. I was induced 2 weeks early, and the inducement took 4 FULL days of misery and 3 more days after to make sure baby and I were safe to go home. I was very thankful to have had so many comfort items and extra clothes for baby as she went through them all. With baby number 2, I packed less, but still a fair amount. Baby boy came on my due date on his own, and we were not even in the hospital for 48 hours. I could have gotten away with way less. Still rather be over prepared than under. You've got this! Don't be embarrassed of your music taste. You will just be in survival mode at the moment and nothing will phase or embarrass you.

The nail clippers are a must. A lot of babies come out with daggers. I would also recommend bringing little mitts for baby. Even after clipping, they tend to be sharp and will scratch their face. Also, bring a toothbrush for Ben and maybe extra mouthwash. If you labor for too long, he'll be allowed to eat and you probably won't. The smell of food on his breath is going to drive you mad.

If you aren't far from home when delivering and Ben can, it may be a good idea to have him bring home a blankie the baby has been wraped in or one of his outfits for Satine to get used to the scent before he comes home. It may make it easier for her to adjust to him when he gets home. If you deliver naturally and all goes well with you and baby you may be out a day or two after.

Pro tip from a 2x mom.. use Depends. (Not sure if you have them I haven't gotten through the video yet.) Best hospital bag ideas are: Clothes: You likely won't need many changes because you'll have a gown on most of the time because they check you during your stay. But bring loose clothes to go home in! Your belly won't shrink right down, so give yourself some comfy stuff. :) Phone and charger. Shower supplies, that first shower afterwards is the GOAT. A book! It's useful at 3am when you're awake. WARM.SOCKS. Obvi, baby going home clothes, car seat. Don't waste space bringing diapers, or extra swaddles, you can take everything from the hospital baby cart :) The nurses can/will make you lovely icy drinks with cranberry juice and sprite if you ask! Editing to say good luck and its normal if its totally crazy the first month.. it gets easier!

I didn’t really have much in my hospital bag, but I wasn’t prepared beforehand and I just had 1 or 2 baby clothes, the baby mittens (definitely have those) phone charger (get a long cable for this) and headphones, and 1 or 2 change of clothes for me. The hospital provided a manual pump, bottled formula, bottle cap (everything is more sterile that way-I did breastfeed but it wasn’t easy at first), baby blanket, you wear the hospital underwear for like 2 weeks and then depends underwear (because of bleeding-all that extra volume of blood for baby comes out after birth so make sure you ask for more hospital underwear and padding when you leave, not trying to be TMI, but realistic) so you don’t even need to worry about that…so personally I think you might be over packing. Again I was packing while in labor lol. Of course do what will make your stay comfortable. So excited for you Gibi! Congratulations 🎊

Only half way through, I have 2 kids. 2 things, 1 .. if anything at all makes you feel more secure or better looking at it than looking for it, pack it. Will this lead to bringing stuff you don't end up using? Yes. That's okay though because you are pushing a human out of you, and not worrying about not having something is helping, trust. 2.. music. Instead of calming, which is great for some people, I'd find music that makes you happy. Like insides smile. Hamilton soundtrack? Yes. ☺️ Mother Gibi, I have been watching you since 2016, when my 9 year old was a baby. He now watches your videos before sleeping. You've got this!! Sonny boy and I are so excited for baby Gibi. ❤

As a mama with a 1 year old, here were my tips for packing. I made so many mistakes and had to have people go get me things but it was all okay. Number 1 tip, don’t over think it. The hospital has pretty much anything you could need and many have gift shops if you forget things. 2. Target pjs and nursing bras with the long pants and button down front. They were lightweight, comfortable, easy for nursing, and easy. I brought shorts but I swelled so much with all of the fluids they pumped through me that shorts couldn’t happen. They’re cheap enough that you don’t care too much about them but were so great for after delivery. 3. Easy outfits for baby and VELCRO SWADDLES. You don’t need much but the Velcro saved our lives. 4. Labor tip, have an idea of what you’re ideal situation would look like but be mentally ready for literally any scenario. Babies come how they want so the more informed you can be the more comfortable you can feel with anything that happens. 5. Bring your breast pump if you plan to do that and have the hospital lactation consultants help you fit flanges, find the right settings for you, etc. I didn’t think about it and had my husband go get ours and it was amazing! Wishing you a safe delivery!

Blessings to you, Gibi! The only advice I would give is that the second day of postpartum healing is when the baby starts becoming more aware of the world. They can become very irritable and want to feed a lot. It depends on the baby, but that was the case for me. But the best advice I could give you is to be kind to yourself; your brain chemistry, family dynamic, and many other things are changing. It’s so hard to adapt suddenly. And consider using witch hazel in the aftermath of everything! Everybody is different, and you must give yourself patience and trust to get through these first few months. Best wishes!
@Xessa82
@Xessa82 2 дня назад
I had the exact opposite experience from you. All 3 of my children didn't eat much of anything for the first few days. It was a struggle to get them to feed. Completely agree with you about the witch hazel plus using dermaplast spray is amazing as well. Dermaplast was my best friend 😂.

@@Xessa82 Oh man, I am so sorry to hear that 😂 Honestly, it depends on how stressed the baby is. Or how long you've been in Labor. My second is on the way, and I’m sure they will be either the same way or the exact opposite. Who am I to try to predict how another human will react? Labor is hard for the mother and child. That's why I tried to stay as calm as possible because I didn't want them to get too stressed from it, but the pain is pain, so I wasn't that quiet.

had 2 babies so far and I think you are better packed than I was ! XD I think the essentials are the charging cable, your phone,laptop, a baby wrap appropriate for the season, some newborn rompers in the size your baby is or if not sure go bigger, it can be roomy they grow fast :) some newborn pants for over the rompers. Some shirts for newborns if cold. baby socks. Pyjama thats easy to breastfeed in that you can quickly whip out a boob lol. The hospital usually has a lot themselves like diapers, pads for you, washing materia;, baby hat, nursing pads... at least over here.

First of all, the hospital will have all your absolute necessities SO my advice is always just to make sure you have what makes YOU as comfortable as possible. That is ideal! There are so many different lists and ideas but that’s what is most important! You never know how labor and delivery will go but praying everything goes smoothly for you!

This is exactly what I was going too say. Majority of what I packed when having my first child was completely unnecessary since they had basically everything you need besides clothes. Taking as much as I did just made it harder to find the things I actually needed. I barely packed anything with my second and third and it was so much nicer and easier that way.

All of mine have been different! And I have loved every single one. Even the one that got a little scary. My single point of advice? Birth Plan = Knowledge of the process + Get Mama and Baby through labor & delivery healthy. Everything else is preference and can be flexible without any shame or guilt to ensure the health and safety of you and baby. You’ve got this!! And again - congratulations!!

Hi Gibi! So quick disclaimer I’ve never been in L&D but I have been in hospitals for years so I thought I could give a bit of input on what to bring or at least what has helped me through treatments and post op. I like stress balls because a) stress but also b) I broke 3 stress balls after my organ transplant because of how much pain I was in lol so I cannot even imagine giving birth to a child. So I would personally bring one because sometimes it’s nice to play with it or squeeze it instead of breaking someone’s hand lol My parents have a travel sized massage gun and omg, it is such a life saver. I’m just a nursing student so idk how much you’ll be wandering or moving but I do know being in bed sucks and gets cramped. And I’m sure you’ll be sore on your legs, back, arms etc so maybe having a little massage gun or roller could help with some of the pain and get your blood flowing My mom always gave me two braids because then if you lay back for a second it doesn’t hurt your head like claw clips or even ponytails. And it keeps your hair from going all over the place :) I think everyone’s said it but baggy clothes and socks and shower supplies. For after the hospital and before and while you’re there. You’re probably gonna be in your very fashionable gown (I always called it hospital core) so don’t worry about changing too much until you go home with baby. Not really a physical object but don’t forget to speak up! It’s your baby and pregnancy and hospital journey, don’t let anyone push you into anything you don’t want to. Cry, laugh, scream whatever you have to do to make it better for you. I yelled at a 50 year old doctor when I was 17 lol so do not be scared because you’re bringing life into the world! Anything you say goes (within reason) don’t let anyone bully you into anything :) If i was your L&D nurse I would love to watch ASMR with you 😂 Good luck and you’re gonna do awesome! ❤❤

Get a cheap cotton robe for after delivery! It’s so nice to have something besides the hospital gown to wear before actual clothes are an option. It’s also really convenient if you decide to nurse as well. ALSO bring an Amazon fire stick. If the TVs at the hospital have an HDMI port you can plug it in and watch normal streaming services instead of the cable they have there. I had preeclampsia so I was there for two weeks before I had my baby and that was amazing to have.

My daughter is now almost 9 months old and I am still so happy how my delivery went. My advice what you definitely should „pack“ in your bag: relaxation. It was by far the biggest help to not stress over all the things that happened or not happened. And the other thing that helped: the right breathing, something you also cannot pack literally but you definitely need.😊 I’m wishing you the best for your delivery and I’m still soooo freaking excited and happy for you!! ❤️

I'm a mum of 3... my first 2 born at hospital, 3rd born at home. All were painful and beautiful and life changing. We've been doing this as a species for many thousands of years. My best piece of advice is to not overthink it and listen to your body. It knows how to do this. All fours is the most natural. Hypno birth seems to be very therapeutic!

If you are giving birth in a hospital you can always check what they give you too. Mine supplied the straw water bottle, robe (medical gown) during labor, socks, food for the full stay including juice boxes for labor, pads, panties, wipes, cooling pads, bottles and pumping items (manual pump and pump parts including a wash basin) if they were needed, and all toiletries. All I really had to bring was a robe to wear when there, a change of clothes to go home in for me and baby, an eye mask and headphones, phone charger, a book, and the car seat. It was a super light bag. You SO will need to supply their own stuff for the whole ordeal but that was just a couple changes of clothes and toiletries plus things to do, but we found it was nice to have them leave for a bit and shower at home etc if it was close enough.

I recently had 2 babies back to back (18 months and 6 months) so labor and delivery and early postpartum are still pretty fresh! Everybody is different and I think you’ve done great packing, you clearly did your research. The only thing I will say is if you plan to exclusively breastfeed, I still breastfeed both my babies for context, those first few days (and honestly even the first two months) can be surprisingly difficult. Both my babies, although they didn’t eat a large volume in the first couple days, they do need to latch a lot, very frequently actually and it can be quite overwhelming and exhausting. I would consider packing a nipple cream and silver nipple covers and also nursing bras if you haven’t already. Also even more helpful was this app I got to track feedings and diaper changes, it was a lifesaver in the hospital. It’s called Huckleberry! I’ve been watching for years, it’s such a joy to see you become a parent - congratulations to you and Ben!!

Don’t forget receiving blankets to wrap the baby in before the blanket. That way if the baby gets too hot you can open the blanket but the baby is still covered with a receiving blanket. I used them quite a bit with my 5 babies. Also cloth diapers work great as burp rags. I bought my daughter a couple packs of cloth diapers and she didn’t think she would need them but she actually went out and bought a couple more packs once my granddaughter was born. They really do come in handy.
@Xessa82

The hospital will provide receiving blankets if she doesn't have them. They provide pretty much everything you need at least the one I went too did. I way over packed with my first child and brought so much stuff that I never actually used and wasn't needed. That just ended up being more of a hassle than anything. With my second and third I packed way less and it made it a lot less stressful for me. I just packed clothes for me, mostly just pajamas to be comfy, a couple outfits for baby, my pillow, charger for my phone and toiletries but they even provide them as well.

@@Xessa82 you’re right about not over packing. I guess I should have clarified that I was taking about having lots of receiving blankets, and cloth diapers as burp rags at home. My best thing for during labour was the Tense Machine; that gives small electrical pulses on your back to distract you from the pain in your belly. Worked pretty well for me, it was all the 'pain relief' I used. My best thing for just after labour (though it was on during, too, I think!) was my starlight-lamp. Yes, the pretty ones with lasers and colours and movement. I still love it but it gave the entire setting such a beautiful vibe. Giving birth can be absolutely beautiful and amazing, especially if you can relax a bit! These lights helped me so much :)
