A bit of an experiment with the 3dio microphone. While I figure out how to best calibrate it for what I do, I thought I'd indulge myself with a ramble about how my feelings for Star Wars have changed over the years. Unquestionably my nerdiest attempt at ASMR (yet).

LOVE every second of this. I’m 22 but I grew up with a dad who loved star wars and while I do have a fondness for the prequels as I grew up with them, I do maintain that the originals are by far the best. As for the sequels, I think they’re hard to sit through now. If you haven’t seen Andor, I highly recommend it. It’s just 12 ≈45 minute episodes, and while it doesn’t have much to do with the force or lightsabers, it’s a great story of the empire and rebellion and I think it manages to capture some of the magic of Star Wars.

I keep hearing Andor is very good from people I respect, so I really should check it out. At this point, I'm just burned out on all SW content, regardless of its quality. For people who love this galaxy no matter what, they must be in heaven. For me, it feels like there's way too much stuff being made for them all to be stories that matter. It feels like "mandatory fun," Disney making content because they own the IP and that's what you do with it. And given that sense, checking out any new stuff - even stuff that is apparently good like Andor - feels like a chore. I don't have the fire in me to dive into a new series. But this could be a passing phase, or just the ramblings of a grumpy old man.

this is so sweet and intimate! Wow, I kinda feel moved? I’m very grateful for my algorithm today! Your voice is very disarming and intelligent! (Also riveting discourse since I’ve gone this far in my life without watching a single Star Wars movie, so I am learning a lot!)

Thank you! In a vacuum, it doesn't seem like talking about Star Wars could bring up such strong and tender emotions. For me personally, the connection to other parts of my life ARE so strong that it's impossible to separate the "silly space wizards" from the things that really matter. And in a way, that makes the subject "really matter" to me. You either laugh or cry about this stuff, or both 😅

Ohh boy, this opened up a bunch of thoughts for me! 🤓 I don't want to crack open the can of worms though because I can respond to everything and this will probably be long anyhow. The original 3 may not be the best looking visually but they'll always be my favorites. The prequels were eh. And the most recent 3 were not great in my opinion. I can say so much about these but my biggest gripe was Luke was the "one". The powerful Jedi and they made him look so weak before his demise. I can't. The only redeeming quality that I appreciate Disney for when they took over was in the Mandalorian (S 2, Ep 8 Finale). Spoiler alert: Luke appears. If you haven't seen it. It was...it was rather good. My heart was happy. This was wonderful, I enjoyed this so much and would enjoy more of it. Thank you for sharing your insight and the personal story that accompanied it. 💛

Thank you so much for listening. The one thing that remains constant through the years is how deeply Star Wars can affect its fans, for both good and ill. It's a funny time we live in now, when there's so much Star Wars content, but so little of it actually appeals to me. But that's okay, as I've tried to communicate here. I'm not "mad" at Star Wars for not being what I want. It's an amazingly enduring franchise, and there's still good to be found in it.

@@benji_2049 You are most welcome! I couldn't touch on everything and wouldn't want to clog up the comments like a mad woman! But I understand where you're coming from. I think for me, that's part of the reason why I'm not an avid star wars fan as much anymore either. But its also like everything else in life right now. People, right? People are really great at ruining good things with their expectations or "what if" scenarios. I don't understand why people can't just be. Hmm.. might be trailing off topic now. I've said too much! 🙃

Believe me when I say that I am a Star Wars “Nut” as well so I could go on forever about the “new vs old” Star Wars…but I am also a 90s kid who wasn’t around for the original trilogy so I didn’t see the originals before I saw the prequels

😮…this was sooo good! I love your rambling so much. My knowledge of Star Wars lacks dramatically unfortunately but it’s only because I never watched a lot of tv, still don’t, and you know, Europeans don’t pay that much attention on it probably. But I’m not sure about this one. But to listen to you, haaaahhh, was very soothing and just the right thing for me to end this day, as allergies have me in the grip and I got the sniffles at the moment. Thank you so much for this and hopefully for more like this. It would be very much appreciated…on the other side of the ocean 😊

Believe me, if you want me to ramble for another 2 hours about the minutiae of this franchise, I can do so. I wanted to keep it to half an hour out of respect for you, the audience 😅
