TL;DR Sexism is often internalized like this and projected onto others in ways that are often unintentionally harmful. So much wrong with one sentence, that it's difficult to be concise. It takes more than make believe to raise children, and she doesn't deserve for the hard work it takes to build the skills she has to be demoted to an incubator for a parasitic tiny human. Please do better. This isnt the compliment you think it is. Please don't respons to the TL;DR. I went into details of why I think your backhanded compliment is damaging and unnecessary, and if you don't bother reading my reasoning then please dont bother responding. People who only listen well enough to respond or be dismissive are not worth engaging with for me. Contrarianism for the sake of it is just being a jerk. That just means you're good with kids, not that parenting is the path for her. I hate when people give women a backhanded compliment without even realizing it. Being a mom is so much more than doing role play. Any daycare worker should have that skillset. Stop momifying every women with obvious maternal instincts. There are more things that those skills help people excell at, that are crucial to being successful in many professions that are a critical and difficult to replace cog in their respective machine, but also a belittled role in the professional hierarchy. This is essentially professional negging; convince an invaluable worker they are replaceable and their skills are something any idiot could do, but the boss also literally can't do their job without that person's skills and steadfastness. A great media example of this is pam from the office. And all anyone ever generally says about women who gracefully display these invaluable skills is "i bet she could give up all her aspirations to crap a crotch goblin out their c00chi3 and be super good at it 😊". I know this was intended as a compliment, but it's reducing a complex, skilled, thoughtful, lovely human being to a caretaker for others and I for one dont appreciate the unconscious demotion because she provides such wholesome and down to earth comfort with beautiful, creative spins, and i love that she puts in so much effort into her art and i love that in a world where it's easy to become a cynic, she is a goofball who exudes hope. She deserves more than giving all that away to someone who wont even know how to appreciate for upwards of two decades of nonstop menial, mental, and emotional labor to raise a human that might suck. Just because someone is a gentle soul with a vivid imagination and the skills and ambition to actualize her visions into reality does not mean MOTHERING is the obvious path those skills will take her. It's insulting tbh. She's more than a future function biding her time to raise someone else. She had to put that love and effort into herself and her dreams to become good at these things first, and people's first thoughts when they see a woman confidently displaying those skills to the point it seems effortless is to unintentionally put the mothering role on her without considering if that's something she even wants. Maybe willow specifically does want kids someday. But what you're doing unintentionally is minimizing everything about her that makes her beautiful and unique and saying you bet she'd be real good at giving all that to someone else. And that is simply demeaning and dehumamizing, demoting all the facets of her personality and all the work she put in to get where she is to "future diaper changer and full time babysitter", because she has a beautiful imagination and a spark of childlike glee in playing make believe, when you could just respect and love her and be happy for her that those traits help her to better her life for herself. People like you don't even realize how backhanded a statement like that is. I watch her videos because she is so kind and thoughtful and she engages with her audience in a way that is tangibly felt through the screen. I love her work and respect her as an artist, and i could sit here and rattle off the applications of the skills she has outside of motherhood, but this is already long asf. The tl:dr is this comment burnt my biscuits because ffs she is so much more than a future incubator for a child who will take those skills her audience appreciates for granted until they're old enough to understand why their parent sacrificed for them ~ because thats what kids are supposed to do, but it is an exhausting, thankless job. And yes, she probably would excell at any job with kids because of her thoughtfulness, her eccentricity, her silliness, friendly and kind, creative, and she obviously has build enough management skills to have built a thriving asmr youtube channel with hundreds of thousands of adoring fans who assert shes helped them through some of the worst times of their lives because it felt like she was there for them. She is making a difference with what she's doing. Maybe someday she'll decide she wants kids (if she doesnt already have them, i do not want to assume what she wants or the state of her life. She is a social media personality, i do not know anything about her personal life, and neither do you. My only goal here is to assert that it is not the natural trajectory of women with her apparent skillsets and on-screen personality to become a mother, but it is often presumed unconsciously by our society; and the double edged sword of it is the value of those skills in other aspects of life is systemically belittled in our society despite not being able to function without the hidden emotional and mental labor of secretaries, personal assistants, service workers for wealthy people who treat you like sentient furniture, daycare workers, teachers, anyone in administrative work that's a women; i can keep going, but again, this is long asf already. The point is there's hundreds of professions that require the same skillsets that are necessary to excell at faciliating raising tiny humans, and those skills exhibited by women are only valuable to our society when they're being utilized to nurture others. Any time women take the skills that are invaluable to others and direct them inward and pours into themselves, someone without those skills takes issue because they view that woman with those skills as an employee or function to assist life in being elevated, and how dare she steal what's rightfully theirs 《sarcasm》 I'm tired of seeing people look at a maternal woman and automatically think the thing they'd be super good at is giving up their entire personhood so their offspring can benefit from all the grueling work they put in to build the skills to have people like you overlook the true value of emotional and mental labor. And it's insulting when you mean it to be complimentary, and i find that to be frustrating.
