On February 9, 2024, at approximately 8:58 P.M., I was sitting stationary on United States Highway 278, when I noticed a silver Cadillac SUV traveling west faster than the posted speed limit. I activated my radar and confirmed what I observed. I clocked the vehicle traveling at 83-mph in a 35-mph zone. I activated my lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.
The driver of the vehicle began slowing and then turned south onto Bradley Road 1 North. After turning onto Bradley Road 1 North, the driver continued to speed up and drive recklessly, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph. The driver continued traveling south on Bradley Road 1 North for approximately 3 miles, before losing control of the vehicle and coming to a stop along a roadside ditch near the intersection of Bradley Road 5 and Bradley Road 30.
After the vehicle came to a stop, I gave the driver of the vehicle commands to step out of the vehicle and a felony traffic stop was conducted. Shortly thereafter, Bradley County Sheriff’s Deputy Marty Wardlaw, and Deputy Chase Cox arrived on scene and assisted me in taking the driver into custody. The driver was identified as Mr. Kenya Davis. While taking Mr. Davis into custody, I could smell the odor of alcohol coming from his person. I asked Mr. Davis how much he had to drink, and he stated one beer.
Mr. Davis was then placed in the back seat of my patrol car. Soon afterward, Mr. Davis’s father, Mr. Bobby Davis, arrived on scene and took possession of the vehicle. I transported Mr. Davis to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, where I conducted standardized field sobriety tests (SFST). After completion of the tests, I informed Mr. Davis that he showed signs of impairment and advised him of his Implied Consent Rights. Mr. Davis then agreed to submit to a breath test, which was conducted accordingly.
Mr. Davis was then cited and released for felony fleeing, speeding, driving on a suspended driver’s license, no interlock device in motor vehicle, reckless driving, and driving while intoxicated (DWI) first. Charges against Mr. Davis will be filed with the Bradley County Circuit Court Prosecutor.
