This episode was first broadcast on ITV on the 13th June, 1993. Trivia: It was actually Jimmy McGovern's daughter who assured her father that Robbie Coltrane was indeed the perfect casting choice by the producers to play the 'career defining' role of Dr Edward "Fitz" Fitzgerald in McGovern's excellent series Cracker. A rare interview from Robbie, here talking about his then new television series Coltrane in a Cadillac. Robbie also mentions Cracker, briefly as it had not yet aired on television but was later broadcast on ITV on the 27th September, 1993.

Such an articulate, highly intelligent, warm, charismatic, funny, charming and immensely talented man. It always irked me the constant fixation interviewers and the media had with his weight. I thought he was absolutely gorgeous and I will miss him greatly. RIP bonnie laddie, gone way too soon 💔

He came over as a genuinely warm man with a lovely sense of humour. So easy to talk to and such great anecdotes. I would imagine he'd be the same with anyone he met. So sad he's gone.

I remember watching his TV show, 'Coltrane in a Cadillac ', some great lines. When I met him at a book signing for it, I told him that I liked a comment he'd made. He was cruising along in the Caddy and exclaimed, ' you'd feel an absolute arsehole in a Fiesta here! Still got the book he signed to me.

An articulate, warm, generous, kind, lovely and humble man. For me, he'll always be Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, a role which he bought joy and happiness to audiences around the world 🗺. He went to heaven via the entrance to Platform 9 3/4 Enjoy your rest Mr Coltrane ❤ 😊

Wasn't Connery also a guest on that same show? I vaguely remember seeing them both comparing their differring Scottish accents on it at the time.

Sean Connery appeared on Aspel twice, in both 1988 and 1989. The episode you are referring to is the one in '88 and you are quite right, that episode also featured an interview with Robbie and Richard Harris. This interview was Robbie's second time on the chat show.
