I started to properly mask as a teenager. I thought I had to fit in and I was aware of what was acceptable at that age. Lately I am starting to slightly not mask in public. i.e. flapping hands when stressed and not inhibiting when people are around. I still mask, though, even with my support worker to some extent. It can make me feel quite vulnerable to be my flappy self with people around, but I'm working on it.
Autism's individual I still mask too sometimes. It does feel safer that way - especially if I’m with people who I think won’t understand me and judge me as rude or bad. I feel like I need change myself to make things easier for their sake... thanks for sharing your story💝 take care
