in '11 i bought 2x4GB DDR3-1600 for 40 USD retail so... If you compare the complexity of a CPU or GPU vs Dram at the same price point, it's ludicrous price-fixing. SK, Micron, Samsung, Elpida can go f themselves.

Damn this was an extremely professional tour of the board. No fancy marching band intro that blows your eardrums, no allures, just straight to the point facts and professional opinions even including tips for buyers who dont wanna OC (H370). I totally like your work and the professionalism in your videos, earned yourself a new subscriber there. Kudos! PS: Watch Buildzoid's channel for more insight into VRMs and how to spot fake phases, which is an absolutely crucial point, esp for OC and durability

Can this mobo do 1920x1080 or 1440 on 144Hz because it has no display port. Since a lot of monitors support 144Hz only through display port.
@twix1442
@twix1442 5 лет назад
If you're not getting a gpu then no, this mobo can only handle a max of 60Hz. But since you are getting a 144Hz monitor, I'm assuming you're gonna get a gpu and game on it. Then, u can connect your monitor to the display port of the gpu. Isnt that how it works? Tbh, not a builder myself tho but about to build a pc using this mobo by black friday XD

Sadly i have a tight budget so im really looking out on cheap deals haha! Havent gotten a cpu and gpu yet. Im considering a 1080ti on ebay tho... But im really not used to buying used ones. Scared it might be destroyed or something. Deciding 8700k or 9600k. We'll see soon. A deal might come out of nowhere

would this board be ideal for an 8700k at 4.7ghz? you mentioned at 5ghz it needs a solid amount of voltage to have it run consistently, so im not sure if 4.7 would have the same issue

Asrock is the cheap branch of ASUS so you get super thin PCB and lower binned parts. I have heard reviewers pick the board up and it cracked the PCB so be super careful handling them

I've had an ASrock board in my build for 4 years and have never experienced any issues. The board is sturdy just like any other proper board, my card is huge and I had to man handle it in there and the board held up fine. I have also overclocked and it ran fine.

this board kills 2 sata ports for every m.2 you plug in. it's still a great board for pushing the 8700k.
@trentf4891
@trentf4891 6 лет назад
halistine jenkins almost every z370 board does that. $250 boards are where you see more intelligent pci and chipset lane schemes.
@halistinejenkins5289
@halistinejenkins5289 6 лет назад
yes they do. i've downloaded the spec sheet for about every z370 board worth having presently and the asus prime board has the best pcie lane distribution from the chipset imho if you're wanting to utilize all your sata ports.....but that board has garbarge power delivery. it has 2 m.2 slots and you can choose to run the second slot at 2x keeping all sata ports on which would be perfect for someone interested in intel's optane and incorporate an add on card with an m.2 connector in the bottom pcie slot, but the top m.2 slot will run at full 4x speeds without effecting the sata ports. that would give you a total of 3 m.2 options with one running at 2x or an optane memory stick. almost all the other boards kill sata ports when using m.2 or the slot that doesn't is located directly behind the gpu which is not a suitable place imho. some of them will even drop the bottom pcie slot when populating the m.2 in that area thus killing any chance of using a x4 add on card with an m.2 connector which work quite well from my experience even when booting from one. it would be nice to be able to switch lanes manually for the chipset in the bios but as you mentioned earlier it would cannibalize their higher tier boards. as far as this board (Extreme4) and the Fata1ity K6 goes, they incorporate the asmedia 1061 chipset to give you 2 additional sata ports making a total of 8. if you use both m.2 connectors you will have 4 sata ports available with 2 via the asmedia chip. i do not like using the asmedia chipset to power my hard drives because i notice different behaviors from them when driven by this controller presently and in the past, but i've learned to live with it. they will not goto sleep, they also show up as "hot swapable" drives in windows, and without tweaking the registry, you can't make them go away. it's as if they are usb drives or such. i use the native microsoft driver that comes with windows and this allows the drives to goto sleep if i so desire but they still show up as "removable". it's not perfect and torments my ocd but i've come to terms with it. the price for these two very similar boards makes it worth it to me because i've found, through my own experiences with other inexpensive z370 boards, that these have excellent power delivery for the unlocked 6 core cpus. they have excellent vrms for what i expect from them.

Wendel, whats up ? Two easy mistakes back to back ! M.2s like places that are actually hotter, not cooler. The hotter the flash the less voltage needs to be ran through it to undo the crystalisation. Second one was about the hdmi port. It hasNothing to do with igpus but rather the old obsolete hdmi 1.4 connector. Every decent z370 board with a hdmi 2.0 port will to 4k60fps on the igpu ;)
@toymachine4253
@toymachine4253 6 лет назад
wezbat I'd heard the same thing about m.2, or at least NAND Flash temperature preferences. You don't want the controller to get too hot, but it'll take a bit to cause that to throttle down.

Only nvme flash
@Qyngali
@Qyngali 6 лет назад
Flash is flash, whether it's on a SATA or NVME interface. The controller needs cooling, the flash doesn't (at least up to a point).
@tintintb1980
@tintintb1980 6 лет назад
wezbat Straight from the ASROCK website: - Supports HDMI with max. resolution up to 4K x 2K (4096x2160) @ 30Hz - Supports DVI-D with max. resolution up to 1920x1200 @ 60Hz - Supports D-Sub with max. resolution up to 1920x1200 @ 60Hz So yeah, he's correct about only getting 4k30fps straight from the board. Then again, if you're targeting 4k60 (or even 4k30 for that matter) then surely you're gonna be using your GPU's outputs and not your motherboard's outputs. ;)
@halistinejenkins5289
@halistinejenkins5289 6 лет назад
outstanding. i just bought this board. hopefully you'll do the Gaming K6 if you haven't already. i have both of these boards and i'm interested in whether there is a difference with the power delivery for the cpu between the Extreme4, K6, and say the Tiachi? ASROCK doesn't have the "adaptive" voltage settings and it's the only flaw i can see other than losing 2 x sata ports for every M.2 you plug in. luckily it has 8 ports 2 via asmedia 1061 chipset. if you like your cpu clocking down and using less power, you'll have to make friends with "offset voltage" or break out your BLCK overclocking skills.
@feelingtardy
@feelingtardy 6 лет назад
yeah, i have this board. i upgraded from the z97m oc formula board that did have adaptive overclocking. imo it's the best way to overclock, fixed voltage is so unnecessary when you are just watching youtube videos.but for what you get, it's a great board for the money. it's basically the gaming k6 board without a couple features missing that you can do without.

I seriously doubt that it's a 12 phase VRM, more likely there's a doubling scheme involved.
@halistinejenkins5289
@halistinejenkins5289 6 лет назад
from what i've read, it's not a "real" 12 phase VRM
@brunosalezze
@brunosalezze 6 лет назад
Its a doubled 4+2 or 5+1 You can OC the same with any of then
@halistinejenkins5289
@halistinejenkins5289 6 лет назад
i had 2 x ASUS z170-A Prime boards and pushed my 8700k's with them. They both blew the caps behind the left VRM that are trapped under that white plastic heat shroud. i think there's something to Intel not allowing these chips to work in z170/270 boards. i only think the higher tier boards would've been able to handle the power hungry coffee lake chips. i'm not having these issues with the ASROCK boards and their power delivery. As i type, the Extreme4 is going on it's 40th hour of prime95 small ffts avx with youtube playing on auto play simultaneously.
@Qyngali
@Qyngali 6 лет назад
Yeah it doesn't really make a difference, unless you're doing LN2 overclocking. There is no real 12 phase board made AFAIK anyway, it would be complete overkill. The ASrock Z270 aircarrier has a 2x6 VRM for VCore. :) What is more important than the number of phases (to a certain degree...) is the actual components used anyway. Are they rated for 105c or 125? How many hours at that temp? Efficiency in the 80+ or 90+ range? How many amps can the mosfets handle? How good is the heatsink? And the list goes on. Buildzoid does a lot of PCB evaluation videos on the channel "Actually Hardcore Overclocking", go take a look. :)

@halistinejenkins5289
@halistinejenkins5289 6 лет назад
ASUS ' cheaper boards for the z370 chipset are garbage for the bigger chips. I've already "popped" 2 x Z370-A boards with two separate 8700k's. The caps behind the left VRM heatsink "exploded" on both boards during stress testing. they can't handle the i7 chips oc'd when maxing out the Digi-VRM like on the z270's / z1270's. hell, i think that's all those boards are. rehashed z170/z270 boards. that's why intel won't let the older boards house Coffee lake. only the top end boards would've been able to handle it.
