Haflong is a town and headquarters of Dima Hasao district (formerly North Cachar Hills district) in the state of Assam in India. It is the only hill station in Assam. New areas have been submerged due to incessant rains in Assam. Along with agricultural land, residential areas and railway stations have also been flooded. More than two lakh people are in the grip of floods. Six people died due to floods and landslides, while six people are missing in the Cachar district. More than six thousand houses have been damaged.
The Dima Hasao district is completely destroyed by the landslide, and rain in Assam. Heavy rains and landslides with floods in Assam caused a major bridge to be washed away, and the road and rail connectivity was also snapped. According to the reports, around 2 lakh people in 20 districts of the state have been badly affected by the floods. The deadly landslide, which was triggered by a continuous deluge, took three lives in Haflong Revenue Circle.
