As an college student of architecture, I'm now studying Florence architecture, and it's just marvelous to see how much AC2 is close to perfection in its representation (and fidelity) to these landmarks. When I played it for the first time (10 years old), I was just impressed with these structures, even without knowing its historical background. Now that I've studied the Renaissence period, I can confirm that this game is even more beautiful than it was for me ten years ago.

Ac unity is also incredibly impressive in this regard
@Black_Nut_Cryso
@Black_Nut_Cryso Год назад
As another architecture student I can say it isn't as impressive. Historically it has many anachronisms, just like the lack of the Baptistery, Duomo's 19th century façade being built instead of the Faciatta Arnolfina, Santa Croce's façade (built in the 19th century too)... It has good points too, but it's far from being historically accurate. It's also funny seeing how there are many tabernacles in the streets that have the same image of the Byzantine icon of Perpetual Help's Virgin. But the rendering and the visuals are incredibly made. I can't deny it's really cool. And I've played so many hours in that game because the gameplay was really easy (I'm only into easy games because I suck at them) and the story and battles were interesting.
@alva6672
@alva6672 Год назад
@@Black_Nut_Cryso I did not say it is historically accurate. I said it is close to perfection on its representation of real and significant buildings. The narrative itself is not a real story - it is only based on real events and characters. That being said, developers surely assumed some creative freedom to adapt some archictectural elements in order to make the game technically optimized and to serve its function as a background to the main focus of the game: its narrative. Some anachrononisms and lack of details are irrelevant from this point of view, since the game does not attempt an expert teaching of architecture itself, but presenting it in a interactive way while attatched to the game storyline and gameplay. You can see by this video's comments that the game was succesful on achieving players' curiosity and interest on the city, even though it has some flaws. Some people (including me) might even say that could not stop remembering the game when visiting Florence. I'd say that means that the game was able to capture and reproduce the city and its archicteture "soul".
@Black_Nut_Cryso
@Black_Nut_Cryso Год назад
@@alva6672 You have a point. Thanks to that game I started being more interested in Florence (I was before I started playing it because it was the reason I wanted to play it) since I wanted to find all anachronisms. The game was fun, and the rendering and the way it was captured made me want to play more hours than I've ever played in any other games.

This is because the game has to be playable, rather than just blindly simulate real life. Therefore the developers decide to make the overall city smaller, scaled down, because if it really took half an hour to get from one point to another, players would quickly get bored or irritated, so they have to do a healthy mix of both; reality and playability. hope this clears out why! ^ ^

Ubisoft bringing in multiple big open worlds with nice graphics is a big achievement. I don't care about graphics, i'm just pointing out that Ubisoft pushed the hardware to the limits with the Assassin's Creed franchises.

Santa Maria del Fiore is wrong because the facade was built in the 1800s. Until then it was plain bricks, kind of like how the close by San Lorenzo is today.
@Black_Nut_Cryso
@Black_Nut_Cryso Год назад
Santa Croce was the same. But in the 15th century the Duomo had the lower 1st third of the facade decorated with a gothic design and some sculptures that were designed and carved by Arnolfo di Cambio, the Faciatta Arnolfina. But in 1587 it was demolished because Florentines wanted to finish the facade with a Manierist design. Building its facade was a challenge for Florentines during all the 17th to 19th century. In the 18th there was also a trial of simply painting it. Those paintings survived until the 19th century because there are photographies.

@mdogg094
@mdogg094 4 года назад
Mat that’s not copyright. It can either be an atmospheric thing (photos are distracting) or an instance where flash photography can damage old paintings. These rules vary place to place but aren’t legal regulations. Public buildings like churches do not have any rules against photography because obviously you cannot police people taking photos from the street. These changes in AC2 are likely simply due to developer creative choices or mistakes. Or sometimes (like the facade of Santa Maria Del Fiore) they simplify the level of detail because actually creating it would be too difficult to do convincingly/ with the hardware.

Santa Croce's Facade, Duomo's Faciatta Arnolfina (the one that was demolished in 1587 before the time it had a naked façade), Saint Laurence's dome (built some centuries after AC), Santa Croce... There are many mistakes that I've been discovering. I recommend you reading the manga "Arte" if you want to find anachronisms and well drawn details of Florence.
