The best thing is the fact that unlike the bullshit in the other games, you cant just leave a small area after an assassination. They lock everything down because you're killing high profile targets. You can only wait it out by going to an assassin's refuge. Super immersive.
@Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad Nah AC4 was the best imo, sure it wasn't as Assassin heavy as previous games but still. My list would be: 1.AC4 2.AC2 3.ACB 4.AC3 5.AC1
agreed, it also was fun because you get to enjoy the sometimes bs chase system in the game since apparently they have Xray vision sometimes. but the parkour is really fun when you play it at a high level standpoint
I don't know if it's nostalgia talking but AC1 had the most unique atmosphere in my opinion. The sheer brutality and historic feel of that time period, the uneasy edge of trying to remain hidden in plain sight after escaping the site of an assassination (not to mention the rush of the escape itself!), and the way the communities, surroundings and architecture feel really sum up the early medieval period in the holy land which hasn't been explored that much in games.
In AC1, the atmosphere was worked to make it coldly realistic. You really felt the tension of being a cold-blooded killer in the crowd, and that a little mistake could put you in danger.
@@BELIAR. Oh absolutely, 2 had a very special charm to it. I'd say AC 4 was the last good one for me, there's a distinct lack of artistic/atmospheric vision in any of the following titles.
This game has got outstanding effort behind itself. You understand that when you play Revelations as a Turk. Turks in AC 1 talks Turkish, but Turks in Istanbul doesn't talk Turkish. Wtf. Also you are going to Cappadocia with ship. Lmao. I can't believe they made a game without research, they could use Google at least. Cringe. Revelations was emotional, but mediocre game. But AC 1...had an amazing feel. Revelations made by different Ubi studio, so it wasn't good as AC 1, 2 and Brotherhood. Still bothers me when i think it...
People nowadays don't have as much respect for the old Assassin creed games because of what they are. It's not called "Assassins Creed" because you are some Greek soldier or a Viking. You are an Assassin. You are supposed to be stealthy. You are supposed to kill and disappear in the blink of an eye. That's what made the older games so great. They lived up to the title
Before Ezio's Family came around, this was the anthem of Assassin's Creed. Shortlived, but still awesome. And one of the best soundtracks on a videogame ever.
This is still /the/ AC theme to me. The only reason Ubisoft are reusing Ezio's Family is for nostalgia baiting on a surface level, not because it actually suits the AC franchise as a whole.
@@Pankypops I gotta agree, but for me, besides this one, there is also another 'main theme' in my heart, which was meant to be THE theme for the next assassins creed games. The main theme for revelations. which funnily enough is called 'Assassin's Creed Theme' for that exact reason.
@@CharlieStudios The problem with that track is that it's geared to be thematic for Ezio and Altair finales. It doesn't feel like it'd fit the entire series. It does have those beats and the background leitmotifs that could do well when remixed or merged with another track, though.
@@Pankypops yeah, that’s what I’d imagine. Instead of the entirety of the theme being used for every single entry in the series, the beats and melody’s and background leitmotif to, like you said, be used to be remixed or merged with, so the listener understands this isn’t just a single game/story we are playing, but supports the bigger picture.
I like how the music plays with the idea of what the Animus really is, especially the parts that sound like a clock reversing and the feeling the music is actually rewinding itself as it plays.
unfortunately, the following games don't have music like this, the only games with music like this are 1, 2, brotherhood, and revelations, thats why i like their music the most.
@@BilingualAtom97 Assassin's Creed III had an epic soundtrack. But it's true I never heard such accurate soundtrack that showed the tension of the situation like Jesper Kyd did since.
@@nomenestomen6899 Yes, and also there were frequent audio reminders that you were actually in a simulation, like the electronic female animus voice, graphical glitches and visual artifacts, and that your "health" is actually just how well synchronized you are, implying you can go off the beaten path but the simulation will start to break down. It really was awesome and unique, tons of flavor.
Assassin's Creed 1 has that fine layer of grit that helped ground it like no other of the AC games did. Corrupt guards harassing the weak, babies crying, drunkards and the mentally retarded roaming the streets. All this compounded by that the game often times dared to let you traverse the cities without playing any music, really letting you breathe in the raw atmosphere. Hell it was the only game in the series where if you didn't finish an enemy off cleanly (triggering a finisher move) the enemy would lay on the floor twitching and screaming for mercy until they died.
Agreed. It was revolutionary when it came out. The gameplay, the lore, the concept, the story, the score, everything about this game was out of this world.
The fact that the Animus was glitching during the fight showed the REAL power of the Apple of Eden. Such a subtle and genius way to show us its power. It literally interrupted the function of a machine which had nothing to do with the fight at that moment. 🤯
4:22 “DESTROY IT. Destroy it as you said….. I can’t…. Oh you can Altair…. But you WONT.” Years later that same decision led to Ezio seeing Altair and speaking to Desmond. Why can’t Ubisoft create such awesome plot these days….
Future generations will have no idea how much this song gets the adrenaline pumping. You just managed to get to your target and kill them with your hidden blade. An entire army comes to the scene ready to end you. You don't have the tools or weapons capable of fending off this threat. The only thing you can do is turn and RUN.
@@Phoenix-sc6diit could be fixed by letting multiple enemies attack you at the same time. that way, you have no choice but to ruin when you get overwhelmed
Or by introducing heavy attacks you can't counter. Or better yet, both. Well, it was the first iteration of the formula, and won't be changed again, I am sure. It was kinda funny for what it was AND allowed one to enjoy this music longer.@@lmaolol7702
I searched for this music since ages. Tried with 'assassin's creed escape music' 'assassin's creed music after kill' 'assassin's creed all BG music' and what not... Finally I found this in recommendations 😂 This music is the only thing I ever wanted from AC.
I finished this game for the third time in my life. Its only now i realise the value and the nostalgia. After odyssey i just needed to come back and be Altair once again
@Damian Howard No he isn't. People like Ezio because he's a compelling character and well written, starting off un-assassinlike like how Altair had broke the creed and on the journey slowly understanding it the same way. They're both good protagonists, but Ezio's story allowed for more expression than faceless Altair, so its obvious why some would pick Ezio.
@@Coach_Shiner eh not really, the rafiqs of each city tell you which district and sometimes exactly what place to go to. on top of that you can hear the interrogation missions from a mile away, and pickpocket/eavesdrop missions are very easy to notice once you realize they’re the only instance in which two or three npcs stand directly facing each other talking (it also helps that you can see them w eagle vision and they’re highlighted).
Im confused on why people want a remake...the graphics actually hold up pretty well..the gameplay can be a bit repetitive but as a new AC fan i enjoyed it immensely...the atmosphere and feeling of being an assassin are all there
@Blender 3d Modelisation no the reason they want a remake is because they only like eyecandy. If they liked just the gameplay the original is still around. People would want a remake of the Mona Lisa if they could for the same reason.
availability and a graphical touch up would be nice. I would love to play this masterpiece on my ps4, but I can't. I would also love to see higher resolution textures and antialiasing. But we all know, that they would screw with the colour scheme and ruin the atmosphere of the game so it's better to be left as is.
@Blender 3d Modelisation The same reason people buy walking simulators and games which are effectively movies where you press a button every once in a while.
Honestly Altair is most worthy of a sequel set in the fourth crusade since all we know of him in that time was that he tried to set up a Creed base in Byzantium but somehow managed to escape the city during the siege, and about two decades later he and his son went on a journey with an assassin from Mongolia to assassinate Genghis Khan (Qulan Gol iirc, possibly a future AC protagonist?) The chances are very slim for an Altair sequel since Revelations basically robbed him with five redundant missions with the same dumb antagonist up until the last one (which is hardly even a mission) but honestly AC1 had the best setting and atmosphere of the series where the Knights' Templar and the Hashashin order were making blatantly obvious moves against each other and taking a front row seat in making history. Bloodlines was a welcome addition since we got to see Altair and Maria's relationship blossom and what happened to the Knights after the third crusade but there were some serious missed opportunities. However and tl;dr: I think we'll see a possible Altair and Darim cameo in the next AC after Valhalla which could very likely be set in the Mongol Empire.
I miss the good old days where I'm so addicted to this soundtrack. I play this in my head whenever I was wearing a hoodie. I remember every moves Altair could have performed (especially the hidden blade counterattack), and then I hide in plain sight.
Damn, the buildup in this music gives off a sense of mystery. And the chase music is just 👌. Damn, I wish I had this game on so I could play it. Altaïr is one of my favorite characters in the lore…
Listening to this after all these years I'm picking up stuff I previously overlooked, such as the heavy synth work. It's definitely a Jesper Kyd track!
Even though I still love AC 2 to AC Unity, still overall like AC Syndicate and loving Origins but disliking the most recent entries in the franchise (at the time of writing, 2023, 19th of july) Odyssey and Valhalla (although honestly, they're still good games, at least Odyssey, to me), no other game in the franchise has executed it's core fantasy better than AC 1, even today. The fantasy of not only being an assassin in the Crusades, but being inside of a machine capable of making you relive someone's memories that was as technologically incredible as unimaginably dangerous to be in. From small things like the computer and simple HUD, to integrating not only things as time skips but the actual control scheme into the actual Animus, it made you fully believe that you were in a machine at all times. A machine that wasn't fully refined, and that, if you spent a little too much time in, you would start to see the blood painted in your room. And I won't be mentioning what others have said about how mechanically well thought out this game can be, making you have to play repetitive missions since you were, for all intends and purposes, a novice learning your creed once again, and searching for your next target, since a lot of people have talked about the structure of the game much more extensively than I could. What I'm tryong to say is, Assassin's Creed 1 was, and is still to this date, the game that representes and understands the concept of what the franchise better than any other entry. Now that we're looking back on our trails and trying to gain more knowledge from them, then maybe, we can use that knowledge to not only apply it for now, but for what the foreseeable future may be. After all, and I'm sorry for getting corny here, isn't that what Assassin's Creed is about?
"I look into your eyes and I see FEAR. Fear...because you know that our message cannot be stopped." "Do you know what it is to hold power over a man's life? I was like a GOD. You would have done the same...given the chance." "Once, perhaps. But then I learned what becomes of those who decide to lift themselves above others." "And what...is that?" "Here, let me show you: 6:40 "
Majd Addin still remains my favorite enemy in the game . No grey area morals , no philosophical ponderings , no elaborate speeches to roundabout and smooth over his volatile nature . Just a sick , cruel , power-hungry , wrathful psychopath . The one enemy in the game the player thinks ( in Altair's voice ) ; " Lay in peace you bastard . Though you do know you'll never earn it " .
This really fit so well with the entire fight between Altaïr and Al Mualim. What I also find fitting is also when Desmund has to run from Vidic. Even though this theme wasn’t used. Idk. Something about this theme just makes that part in Revelations work
(3:38) I love the sounds here that get added into the mix as a sort of "build up" to the "chase". It gives this track a perfect blend between the Animus' programming and the sounds of the past, and fits the "Past and Future" vibe PERFECTLY.
I find it impressive that Jesper Kyd managed to compose soundtrack for both AC and Unreal Tournament 3 (both games are from November 2007). You can ever hear similar sounds from UT3 in this track.
Altair best assassin he was the the one who started it all and the greatest assassin shame.the developers didnt continue his arc like they did and sucked ezio's balls hell they even remastered all the other games and left this one aside i mean the hate Altair get is unreal.
i think ubisoft loves Altair characters. His disguise is on every game of the series but they don't want his return in other games because fans like more Ezio than Altair althought I think Altair represents the only real assassin of the series.(sorry for my English)
@@nicola47Altaïr is the OG. Still the best and most badass Assassin in the series. Ezio’s got nothing on Altaïr. Then after the Kenway’s story, the series took a nose-dive and tried to become The Witcher.. And look how that turned out. Was there problematic and/or under-developed, buggy, glitchy games in the series? Absolutely (I’m primarily looking at you AC: Unity), but they should’ve stuck with the original AC mechanics and what made it great, to begin with. As far as I’m concerned, Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are *NOT* Assassin’s Creed games.
i dropped off this entire series after brotherhood not on purpose, just life happened coming back and replaying ac1 and ac2 after over a decade feels so nostalgic
This Is Such A Masterpiece. This Almost Reminds Me Of Classic Rock. Like Stairway To Heaven, The Slow Build Up That Slowly Progresses Faster Until The Climaxing Guitar Solo Of The Song. With A Beautiful Outro To Put The Cherry On Top.
Coming back from Darktide's OST and yeah, Kyd's style is unmistakeable. The insanely smooth intermingling of classical instruments and modern synths is just something he does. And he does it so incredibly well. And let's not forget the fighting part of that track. And this fucking insanely beautifully chaotic, yet fully composed flute solo at 8:40. Goosebumps all the way down. It's so insane, it's so hectic, it fits so fucking perfectly. I *love* it.
6:40 How this never became the official boss fight/chase theme for the franchise bewilders me 14 years after Assassin's Creed 2 came out, I mean you could've remixed it from title to title so it matches the atmosphere of each game after the first but the core theme should've remained, SMH.
Man, when this came on, I wouldn't run away and just let as many guards attack at the same time as possible lol. Being a 1-man army with this as my theme song had its own level of awesomeness.
6:49 used to play in my head in high school as I imagined myself running from enemies in school. jumping from building to building and on people.😂😂 the good old days. AC was an amazing game
Its kinda funny seeing people go "oh man, the first game had such great dialogue and atmosphere and music and mystery and Altair was cool and blah blah blah" and talking about missing Desmond and the modern-era plot. When back in the day, those are exactly the things a lot of people bitched about. People hated Desmond up to and including Brotherhood, the complained that the cutscenes and dialogue portions were too long, the atmosphere was too bleak, Altair was unrelatable etc. Then ACII came out and we had Templars acting like one-note villains, no intelligent dialogue, Ezio who came across more like a Gary Stu than a character with a complete story arc like Altair, a much brighter atmosphere as well as locations and music and so on. Oh how times change. And the less said about how they're handling the modern portions, the better.
@@Michael_De_Santa-Unofficial i was among the few who liked the dialogue and Desmond segments from the beginning. Was never a fan of ACII's story or Ezio or any of its cast really. But I was a minority. Most loved Ezio and ACII as a whole
spot on, i love both ac1 and the ezio trilogy but you just can't deny that games about supposed monk killing machines should have the same feeling the first game had, the followin were too lukewarm, personal and too focused on the adventure part
