Assassin's Creed I still till this day has one of my favourite story lines with in the Assassin's Creed Franchise. So today I decide to take a deep dive into the relationship between Altair and Malik and show how their friendship progresses through out the game with a little extra information found in other Assassin's Creed media. Hope you enjoy.

Dude, then at the end when Masyaf is taken over by Al Mualim, after Altair says "safety and peace" Malik responds with "Your presence will ensure us both"; now that's character growth.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Malik was, like Altaïr, unaffected by the Apple of Edin. He wasn’t fully against the idea of Al Mualim being a traitor.

Malik had so much potential as a master assassin but he fits the role of Dai well anyway. Just wish he had a larger role in the game to reflect actual lore. And when he finally said “safety and peace” and called Altaïr brother after everything 😭

Had? He still was a master assassin. It's only because he lost his arm that he was assigned to be the Rafik in Jerusalem during Altaïr's mission to redeem himself.

Yup, his given name is Malik as well but when he entered the Order under Abbas to avenge his father he called himself Tazim. Altaïr met him when he returned to Masyaf after his exile (in "The Secret Crusade")

I agree with Malik on what should have been down with the old man in the temple. If I were Altair, I would have used the pommel of either my sword or short blade and knock the old man in the head, rendering him unconscious.
