I love my spears (Spartan Javelin x2). I also love to play with swords and staffs. I just made a fire-axe build that I have a lot of fun with. My least favorite weapons are heavy blunts (too slow) and lastly daggers. Spears give me extra range so I can hit an enemy before they can hit me. Using the Spartan Javelin(s) along with the Persian Warrior's Wasteband gives me 100% melee resistance and opens up lots of engraving slots for Isu enhanced and Northern Traveller perks. I have been able to direct my Overpower attacks to one enemy (most of the time), but it works well dealing with leader groups inside buildings. Thanks T7 PDM!!
Very useful - thank you! You put the other Odyssey RU-vidrs to shame with your quality content! These results align nearly perfectly with my subjective experience trying different maximized weapon-specific builds. The only thing I would add is that there are, in my opinion, some genuine bugs with how the spear's "Overpower" and "Fury of the Bloodline" attacks work, causing extremely frequent "failure-to-connect" situations. This seems particularly bad with spear-based Bloodline attacks, and has caused me to relegate the spears for use only in the off-hand for unique-engraving spears, such as the unique Spartan Javelin with melee resistance, or the Master-of-waters spear's crit chance.
I like the staffs They have really good AOE and crowd control, that I really like and I think it’s a good trade off for the lower damage which can totally be supplemented with some work
Thanks for the video this is a fantastic breakdown. Before youtube I used to have to do these types of analysis myself. That said, I really appreciate (and understand) the time you put into gleaning all of the information for us. I hit a milestone today...mastery level 100 YEA!!
Good video. Thanks man I started off with swords and decided to try axe. I really like it for the sheer damage you can do and use it as my main with sword as backup. I never like daggers even for assassin play and felt staffs and spears were weak despite their range. I'm excited to try heavy blunts as I did like the idea but originally thought they were too slow. :)
Daggers wont do anything in an assassin builld anyway, similar as poison doesnt do anything aswell, they dont increase your assassination damage, or whatsoever. These are perfect examples of common misconception for casual players.
Trying to max out all engraving I had to kill 750 enemies with each weapons... My favorite is now the bow! :D And sword... (good speed and damage overall)
At 6:53 when you're talking about the spear attacks always being a poke in one direction? A dodge followed by a heavy attack with a spear will hit in a wide arc, it's a pretty good AoE for a basic attack.
Oh, I have not tried that for other weapons than swords actually, I want to make a new weapon hybrid build anyway, so if all weapons have a move for that button combination, I could add it.
@@T7PDM Please do and remember that certain light/heavy combos also produce different moves for all the different weapons. I learned them by playing without abilities for a while. I love the abilities so I went back to them once I thought I was proficient without them.
If only the spear had a better overpower attack... That weapon could have been far better with the right animation cancel. I try them all for fun. But always go back to the swords.
But I always figured, despite Dagger giving the least damage per hit, since you get from 3-5 hits per second, you end up causing more damage per second than with any other weapon per second.
Hey T7 PDM, wondering if you or anyone else here has ever noticed an Epic Bandit Bow which has TWO permanent engravings of +10 CRIT Chance? I'm fairly new to Odyssey, only been playing a couple months, but from watching and reading about 100% crit builds, I don't see any mention of this bow, can't find anything in online searches for it, either about it being a must have for crit builds or about it being a bugged item that doesn't actually work (though it does seem to work for me, ). I'm guessing I got this as one of the mystery gifts from a recent stop at Oikos, I honestly didn't pay notice to it until I was storing some stuff on my ship a few days ago
Its literally not possible to get this regularly, its a 1 in a million bug that you collect such an item. Engravings can not occur twice since the November 2018 patch and even when you might have gotten such an item, which some people probably have, I got like 2 or 3 reports over the last 2 years. Its not possible for any other player to get it. Its not in the gifts, its not possible to loot or buy it at the blacksmith. There is only a Bandit bow in the Olympian gifts with 1x Crit chance and 1x Crit damage, which is also a unique item, because of the crit damage, which can not normally ocur on bows. This bow CAN be found in the Olympian gifts, but not yours. (That doesnt mean that you dont have it, but you can call yourself lucky, because you just won the lottery by getting it) Its an impossible item that somehow still exist. When you show that online to someone, 99% of players will call you out as a hacker... I also thought so for a very long time that these people are just attention seekers, but it might be that you or a handful of others just have it, not being aware that it is impossible to get. We have theories how these kind of impossible mutations might happen by a super rare error in the game code, but that would be too long for this answer.
@@T7PDM Thanks for the info! I'll definitely protect and make some duplicates of my save file if it's that rare to occur...I was hesitant to even mention it because like you said some people might question it, but I'm just playing on PS4, no mods or anything.
Its explained in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9hAiR3cnlYk.html It happens in certain conditions when you hit your enemies automatically.
Now one question, what abt early levels? Does this all apply with like level 8? I’ve dug myself into a hole where all the missions require more damage than I can deal, and it takes like 20 hits to kill anyone, not even leaders
great video as always, you have helped me so much on my builds but i am missing the 40% fire resistance engraving i am on new game plus 5 and have platinum the game and dlcs, but i still can't get it, i heard it my come from some armor but i have all the armor you can get. anyone know ?
Daggers deal the least damage per hit. Its half the damage of swords and all other weapons. Which makes one hit kills almost impossible. Better use swords or anything else. Daggers really suck.
I cant let this uncommented, dude, because DPS means damage per second. All weapon types share the same DPS in assassins creed Odyssey. But the weapon animations and speeds are different leading to different damage per hit.
Dunno but i love staves the most. Great allround weapon good for single target and crowd controll aswell. Spears are maybe better but i hate their combo. Its boring. Only disadvantage of staff over sword/daggers ( except single target dmg) is long animation after the attack which you have to wait out before you can use skill. Never had that problem with a sword. You can use skills almost anytime with sword. Axes i never used much so dont know. Heavy blunts are cool for CC with its overpower, but its owerpower is meh against single target. Good thing about maces is thaat you can go through shields even with light attack. Both heavy types are terible against something fast like all animals with exception of bears.
Heavy blunts overpowwer is OP even against single targets, over 8 million is possible in an optimized build, you can kill 4 mercs in one overpower easily.
@@jirikunc1956 True, but there is not an enemy that needs more damage that you can not kill with 1/4 of the hit. And those who are stronger will animation cancel automatically => Cyclops, and other creatures will get the full damage of 4 hits in a single hit. So there is no real disadvantage.
You should watch this playlist, everything you need to know will be explained so that new players can understand it: ru-vid.com/group/PLazWgSf7jFubgOl9SRp_hjRlqYHjeOOgn
Just watch his videos they helped me a lot. The biggest tip I personally could give a new player is that resistances are king and armor is not so much.
There is an engraving that burns or poisons every enemy in a single hit anyway so your argument is invalid. Besides that the attack speed would still only be slightly faster than swords. And damage over time is not really useful, increasing your weapon damage and killing an enemy in a single hit is always the better option. Check out the latest fire build: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gUMGf7Owz6U.html
The FUN in this game for many people is to understand it and get better and better. That is one aspect, which makes it different from other boring shallow uninspired games. Odyssey has fundamentally good game mechanics, that are so incredibly well thought of and balanced.
Unpopular opinion: staffs are the best weapon type in the game. They just feel so much better than every other weapon type in the game to me because of the combination of range, damage, and the general AOE nature of their move set.
If that opinion is unpopular then I am an outcast too. I love the staff because, even though it clearly does the least damage, it seems to have the most diverse attacks comparatively speaking.
swords have poor range and not the best for aoe. hevy blunts or heavy bleades also staggering more target so they are more defenseless. double hit from weapons is also not a problem.
Swords have a quite good range, the only weapon with really poor range are the daggers. Check the horseback double kill at the end of the video with the sword. BTW: There is mostly no AOE at all, because it is always the weapon that must hit the target. Only thing that is slightly AOE is the heavy blunt vertical attacks. Realy AOE are abilities like Ring of chaos.
I do because I can just lose myself in the awesomely detailed scenery. There is a video of an Archeologist watching the game while a dev plays it. She works in Athens Agora every summer and was blown away by the accuracy and detail of the game. Masterpieces just don't get old.
