Dont forget to check out our range of guitar pedal kits available here, thank you for your support! www.diyguitarpedals.com.au/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1
There were a few revelatory moments for me. It’s great to see a simple kit done step by step from soldering to testing. I definitely became a better kit builder because of this video.
Thank You from USA CT. your an awesome teacher. i am starting to learning how to build at the age of 48. so the details are important. PLEASE do more of these videos.
Really useful guide!!! Thank you!! I have a lot of trouble understanding electronics but I'm really interested in pedal circuitry and I want to build my own fuzz. Thank you for showing the testing phase too!!
I've been following you for a while now, awesome content! Wish I saw this video when I started building, perfect for newcomers. By the way, I bought your 7 min fuzz PCB rather than the kit because drilling is a lot of fun so maybe others agree with me. Rock on!
Awesome video!!!! Please show us how to build one boss ce1! It's a very rare, classic and expansive pedal and it seems very complicated to build! Thank you
So I’ve tested my effect and got it working using the method you love shown here except using a 9v battery instead of the jack, and I have a lot of extra noise, more of a high pitch screach than a hum. Any tips for troubleshooting what could be causing it? Great video and immensely helpful channel!
thank you for making video's. I Just bought 4 of your kits. I just started making pedals and i have only done two point to point kits. Looking forward to try some pcb kits. And btw. I'm a tool junky and i wonder what brand your pliers are?
The putty in the UK is called Blutak. It's used to hold posters / pics on a wall, a blob in each corner. Wish I'd though using of that . All it does practically is hold things in place (4th hand?)
Just throw it out regularly, I can imagine there would be lead and contaminates building up over time: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C4ACT2w93Mc.html
Thank you so much for taking the time and creating all these awesome videos! I’m at my witts end with an OD pedal that I made and was wondering if you might know the culprit (Google has been unreliable). My pedal works completely fine when engaged, but when it’s in bypass, the volume knob on the pedal still works/is active or controls the overall volume and it’s like my bypass/clean tone sounds almost as if I rolled the tone knob on my guitar completely down. If you or anyone in the comments thread might know what I need to fix, I’d appreciate it so much!
If I run out of blu tack I start to break out in a cold sweat. I use it for everything :D ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C4ACT2w93Mc.html
Great vid, I wanna test a Delay without soldering the switch, just the board... But I can't find the doc you show in the video (17:15)... Can you help me? Great channel, Paul! :D
Im thinkin if the vid is long i can stop it and come back if i need to . However the longer the vid the more information is there . I need tht , hell i need all the help i can get and u do tht for free , so i wont b complaining about anything . Thk u for the free education . Hav s good day sir .
Great stuff. I pieced a good bit of this together from many other less organized sources over the last month, but I still learned some good new processes from your video. Really good stuff. Also love your usage of that putty for soldering. What is that exactly?
At 25:31 he says it's called BlueTack (?), I'm guessing it's a sort of putty that doesn't/rarely leaves residue behind. Maybe it's an Aussie thing? I'd recommend looking for it or something similar at a hardware or craft store
Anything with a pencil tip. 15w - 40w. dont need the soldering iron choices stop you from getting started, just grab anything from your hobby electronics shop and get to it :D
trying to build my own pedals, would appreciate if anyone has any insight into this. My overdrive pedal seems to be fine when connected to a standard ac power supply. I then connect it to a 9v Battery and when I touch it with my finger, it gets louder and has more tone.. weird. Ive tried different batteries. Any ideas whats wrong?
Thanks Fredi. You can get them from my store :D also jaycar and other online retailers. Cheers mate: www.diyguitarpedals.com.au/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=476
I've got a question about pedal knobs and I thought this would be the place to ask... I bought a couple of used EHX pedal second hand and the person I got them from clearly fucked with the knobs because they don't line up with 8:00 & 5:00 at min/max. Kinda irks me, I'd like to line them up properly. But how do I get them off of the pedal?
Hey mate, bit of a supply issue at the moment, working on restocking the 7 min fuzz kit soon. I don't sell some of the larger hardware bits to make shipping internationally affordable. Theres tonnes of suppliers already out there selling them cheaply anyway. Cheers
Forget Strymon, their pedals are complicated and / or digital. I really "dig" there stuff though ha. I have a few damage control and Strymon pedals, their top notch
I bought transistors for a fuzz build that requires two transistors. I bought two bc109 transistors from mammoth but when they came in one says bc109 and one says bc108. Both npn silicon. Will i have any problems using both together? (Edit: this is my first build so im new to this stuff)
Hi Tom, I have a few left but unfortunately international shipping is a killer (25$+). I've only offered these locally for this reason. The 7 min fuzz kit on my store though is cheap to post as It doesn't include large parts like enclosure and 3pdt. Check them out: www.diyguitarpedals.com.au/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1
Hi, just a quick question, if you decided that you did not need the led for the pedal, would that cause an issue with the circuit? And would you still need to make the connection on the switch?
It's analog. Nothing digital is introduced into your guitar signal with an old school hard wired pedal. The components are just making a continuous square clipping circuit with your guitar signal coming from pickups.
Hey man I love your videos, the focusing problem is definitely a big one though. Not sure what you can do about that other than maybe getting another camera, but when you hold things up to show, things are constantly out of focus. Not sure if it would be beneficial to you to have a monitor up while you were filming so you could check and make sure things are in Focus while you were holding them up. Anyway that's my only complaint, I'm learning a lot. Thank you.
I used to watch every single video of yours.. then I had kids! Now I have a fancy cupboard filled with my kits and components... I’d be interested in placing an order including the full kit and enclosure! Do you ship to USA..?
I have the same predicament. Theres only so many hours in the day hah? Also a problem with the kit. These need to go by parcel and are expensive to ship outside of AUS (>$25). But the 7 min fuzz kit on my webstore has everything like this kit minus an enclosure and footswitch. Its also cheap to ship ~$5.
Its really nice to see the whole proses. I actually relly like longer videos :) Would be great if you could go into what the components do to the sound while installing
I think the criticism is mainly from the younger or maybe just impatient audience, that want to be entertained without using grey matter or want an answer within 2 mins. My channel would probably be more popular if I took the eye candy approach. But instead....here I am...trying to teach :D
Personally I would cut the leads after I test it so if I put a compenonent in wrong or in the wrong place, I can take it out and its easier to put back in.
Came across the black ice mod last week and found your posts as suggestions.Very accessible. Just what I needed. I have done a reasonable amount of guitar wiring experience (passive no battery) with good results. I've got a pedal I am building up to doing a complex mod on (Boss C3 compressior). I have watched several of your videos. And I am starting to get to grips with the differences from passive guitar wiring. I also found a site that explains the basics of electronics. www.electronics-tutorials.ws/ Would like to know if you could recommend any other free online resources? To make a start in this new interest, I've got hold of a couple of really cheap kits off eBay UK, they can suffer on the learning curve, not my Boss pedal!!! I learned a lot from this - nice communication skills by the way. From myself and many others I stronglt suspect - A big thanks for your efforts, they are very much appreciated.
Thanks mate. You know all my life I have I always consider my communication skills to be one of my biggest weak points so your compliment means a lot to me. Cheers!
What communicates most clearly is your enthusiasm and generosity in sharing knowledge of a subject that you have a passion for. There are always going to be negative people who criticise pointlessly. I understood you clearly and some of the hunches I had about my way forward were confirmed and clarified. I strongly suspect that my guitar wiring will also benefit. The a minority will always be vocal. You won't hear from the majority that are helped. Remember that and keep up the good work. Thanks
I love your channel and want to start building some effects myself but- I can tell you why your kit didn't sell bud- 2 reasons- 1.- The demo, you barely plug it in and when you do it's very tame. and 2. It needs to be extreme- that's really the whole point of a fuzz pedal- otherwise you'd just get a distortion pedal. You make a fuzz pedal kit that has a really narly fuzz to it- let ppl hear that and I mean through a real amp preferably played by someone who can really show out for a second- I promise you won't be able to make kits fast enough. When I hear ppl describe the type of fuzz pedals I'm talking about they say they are "heavily biased" and "gated" - no idea what either of those terms mean in a technical context but- I know what they sound like. It sounds like electricity arching across a gap and it gets so distorted and narly it cuts out, glitches, like the amp is dying.
wheres the link to buy the whole kit when i go to your website it asks to pick components for the kit but their always seems to be components out of stock
Hi Dave, no complete kits left I'm afraid to say. You can order the 7 min fuzz without the enclosure and 3pdt instead though. The knobs are out of stock, but you can order any know as a replacement. Cheers
