Made in Germany is not just a marketing claim for us. Every Pinion gearbox is assembled by hand here in Denkendorf near Stuttgart. Having a great infrastructure allows us to get all the parts from suplier with very short transportation routes.
After it is assembled every gearbox will be tested on our dyno, to guarantee its function 100%, before it is shipped to many bike manufacturers around the world.
Please note that this video doesn't show every single step in the assembly and some parts are speeded up in the video give a grief overview of the process in a 60sec reel.

I would expect to pay 2500 for the drive system, It’s the other 5000 for some brakes and frame that has me wondering. Cost seems disproportionate seeing that you can get a Surron ultrabee motorbike for similar cost.

Cant wait for a pinion ebike with good geometry and sensibly priced. The second i see one released i am buying it. Ideally electronic shifting will be the norm then as well

They are better already. They became better when developed their gearbox. Unfortunately the big companies like Sram or Shimano are blocking and delaying this technology because the old tech making them big money. Sad, really.

@borismartin There is point in having derailleurs, it is called power loss and pinion gearbox has 9,5% of it while efficient road gruppo like Dura Ace has only 3%. Gearboxes are cool, I like the idea. All e-bikes should come with one, also bikes that go more dowhill or don't need to be super efficient. Bud it is not a universal way for bycycles.

@borismartin did we just watch the same video? There isn't a conspiracy to keep gearboxes from entering the market, if you watch the video again.. you'll notice the gearbox is a very complicated and heavy assembly, the complexity, cost, and weight means it doesn't make sense for more bicycle applications. I can't wait to get one on an ebike though! Chain and sprockets systems are just so cheap, light, simple, and efficient that they aren't going anywhere for the forseeable future

Except Shimano gearboxes cost $400-200. Good luck finding a pinion gearbox being sold stand alone at all, or finding a pinion equipped bike at the price of a Shimano one. Shimano gearboxes might last half as long but it doesn't matter if you can buy three for the price of a pinion.

This is just a Gearbox, no Motor. The combined Unit is different.

As an owner, one word: weight. Awesome otherwise especially commuting. And, if something never ever breaks then likely it is overbuilt a bit.

Please sell these gearboxes to customers. I would love a pinion gearbox for a custom bike, but i am not willing to pay for the markup that used ones get or the price of a whole bike. These are great gearboxes but i am still staying with Shimano alfine simply because it is availible - I hope you can change that in the future

There will be MGU eBikes under 6.000€ and the prices are not much higher than for other comparable e-drive products.

I want one, but the only bike that's even remotely affordable from Australia that has a pinion on it is the Priority 600. Even that's going to cost 4x what I've paid for any bike in the past... Very expensive, considering I've not been able to see and try one in person and am just going off RU-vid reviews... But after having a belt drive with Shimano Alfine 11 for 7 years there's just no way I'm going back to a chain. Please, somehow get this out there. Maybe sell direct to public, or team up with someone to build frames too, large volumes...

Das ist ein Getriebe, kein Motor. Ersetzt also lediglich deine Schaltgruppe. Treten darfst du noch selber 😀

Gibt es dafür auch vollmechanische droppbar/hebel shifter von euch? Nicht die von Cinq5, diese kann ich nämlich nicht finden. Habe das Gefühl das die nicht mehr existieren nachdenke sich von Tout Terrain abgenippelt haben. Elektronik ist alles schön und gut. Ich will aber nicht an noch eine Batterie denken müssen. Edit: Tout statt Tour :D

That is done when it was connected to the motor - presumably that device is measuring resistance or speed from input to output of the gearbox

It's a handmade and very complex product, this video is edited and speeded up. It actually takes much more than 60 seconds to build a Pinion Gearbox.

Hi, einzelne Getriebe verkaufen wir nur an Hersteller. Es gibt sicherlich einige kleinere Hersteller über denen du ein Rahmen und ein Getriebe direkt beziehen kannst. Dafür einfach mal auf unserer Website schauen.

Finde es blöd, dass das Logo nur ein großer Aufkleber ist. Solche gehen bekanntlich echt irgendwann ab, und das ist, bei einem, sonst so qualitativen Getriebe, echt schade.

Nach unserer Erfahrung und der von vielen Fahrern halten diese speziellen Outdoor-Aufkleber sehr gut und auch sehr lange auf dem Magnesium Gehäuse. Sollte der Aufkleber dennoch mal abgehen, dann schreib einfach mal eine E-Mail an service@pinion.eu.

Why not? It's completely enclosed, sand and salt can't get inside. Hub gears have been around forever and they have no problems with harsh conditions.

Очень плохая система. Ненадёжные игольчатые подшипники, слабые сальники первичного и вторичного вала, тонкие стенки места посадки подшипников, магниевый корпус в месте соприкосновения половинок не защищён и корродирует при контакте с солёной водой и химикатами после зимы. При пробеге в 16к. Рассыпался игольчатый подшипник и коробка пошла по звезде.😢

Seeing this makes me sad that this technology will take a long time to arrive to my country, and at a crazy prices I have a Scott Aspect 970 since a year ago and his transmission works just like the day i bought it, but i would love to try this type of transmission ❤
