Not to make your note considerably less light-hearted... Enslaved Astarion slept on the ground, I think (haven't played the game). Probably an unconscious habit.

They actually planned consequences for using the tadpoles powers too much... Not anymore. Wish they kept in his nightmares as just that: nightmares.

They obviously rushed and removed a lot of stuff especially after Act 1. I love the game and have hundreds of hours in it but after Act 1 it gets way less reactive and deep. Hoping they fix it as some have suggested they have done with other games they've released and adding a deluxe edition later but still sad that it should even come to that instead of releasing a fully fleshed out experience when they release the actual game.

Oh why was it removed from the final release? Or just hard to trigger??

based on context clues i'm pretty sure these scenes are part of the original "daisy"/dream guardian plotline. instead of the dream guardian being the emperor, in early access they were meant to be an actual manifestation of the tadpole trying to make itself more powerful. when the story was rewritten to make the emperor more of a neutral character (influenced by player choice) instead of a solely malevolent one, the dream sequences were altered in turn. i also recall hearing they got rid of the consequences for using tadpoles because it discouraged most players from exploring the tadpole skill tree (larian put the feature into the game for a reason- they want you to use the tadpoles and not just sit on a collection of them forever). now it's more a case of "would your character do this?" or not

The game never said there would conséquences by using the tadpole (you mean Illithid power in conversations ?). And I did it and honestly it doesn't change anything.

honestly, some of the dialogue from the EA remained in the launch. Like when your companions mention that the dream visitor gives you powers yet you don't get any powers unless you a) use the tadpoles you've collected b) drink the potion from Omeluum. In the EA, when indulging in your tadpole mind control powers enough, you would gain an ability that was specific to your class.

I think if anything, Cazador probably lied - I don't think Astarion knows what's on his back. *Spoilers ahead* but the Descent into Avernus campaign which was written as a sort of predecessor to BG3 mentions "wretched souls" that people will carve devil contracts into to seal the deal, it might not be that exactly but it likely is much more than a poem!

The torture Astarion is talking about is actually Cazador asking for feedback on his slam poetry every night for 200 years

They cut soooo much out of the full release and especially by Act 3 it is so painfully obvious.

He just loves chilling in that mud whether he's stargazing in that other scene or finding a nice place to sleep!

Hi, I mentioned it briefly in my description but basically the main thing blocking this at the moment is Shadowheart's conversation because it overrides this for some reason. If you've never tried it before I highly recommend not recruiting her at the beginning because it leads to two new cut scenes with her! You can also just kill her the night before the second tadpole dream, see this scene with Astarion and then reload haha. On this particular playthrough I've not recruited anyone but Astarion. Hope this helps.

@@03irisiris10 so shadowheart is the reason for most of my pain ie missing vital astarion lines & scenes, i figured as much... i'm loathe to leave any companions behind, even the ones i hate, but if having that annoying lil...err if having shadowheart with me is depriving me of my astarion love, i may just have to break my 'no companion left behind' rule after all

@@nocturna76 yup, apart from in this scene she will butt in a lot on many other scenes. She overrides the conversation where Astarion says "no no let me open the door" when you try and walk in on the bugbear and ogre banging. No fun !

Wow what a mood, same. Also all you have to do is not have Shadowheart because her (frankly more boring) dialogue will override this every time after the second dream. I recommend trying out not recruiting her because it leads to new cut scenes with her anyway including her turning up at camp to kill you lol. A short term way to see this nightmare dialogue is to kill her the night before, sleep then reload afterwards. Hope this helps !

Deep meditation basically is sleep, i mean he still gets visits from the dream guardian for example

The meditation is more like a conscious dream- normally, an elf is able to steer their dream towards self reflection and continue to proccess things consciously as they meditate. Astarian’s ptsd could be so bad that he is no longer in control of his meditation, though- being unable to steer his thoughts away from his trauma whenever he looks inwards

It's cut content. There's a lot of pre release scenes like this.

Happy to help! Hmm did anyone else's conversation override his nightmare after the second dream? Was Shadowheart alive/in your party at all? Did you get to have the conversation with Astarion after the first dream? I'm not sure what you mean by your last question, you can definitely romance Astarion without having Shadowheart! I believe there was an old exploit where you could be nosy towards her and farm approval from him but that's fixed now. I can't think of anything else linked to her he greatly approves of. I also think he is one of the few companions who will come onto you even if you are on neutral or medium approval , but you must let him ask you. if you want to be forwards with him you must be on good approval for him to not reject you for asking. If you're finding it hard to gain his approval there's a good list on the wiki! Hope this helps.

@@03irisiris10 thanks for the reply in my latest playthrough I just have Astarion and Lae’zel. As I expected Lae’zel’s Guthyanki “I give zero fucks” attitude allowed Astarion to converse a lot more. I learned Shadowheart comes to kill me if you just avoid her entirely and since I failed the speech check she real ded. Good riddance I was growing to hate her as I learned more about her. But she’s not ded enough to not get approval for petting Scratch >.>. The dreams seem to be tied to how often you use the tadpole. Maybe I’ll do a power hungry shadow Druid when that class comes out. I did get Raphael for the first time... what a delightful devil and highly charismatic voice actor x.x As far as approval, I already knew what he liked and got him to Very High doing all the areas except Goblin Camp and Sunlit Meadow. Or whatever that swamp is called

@@ReplicatorFifth that's quite funny that she still has approval for the dog despite being dead. I think that path is a bit bugged at the moment because even if you manage to talk her down she apparently still doesn't join the party properly. And yes if you want the dreams definitely use the tadpole more! As long as a different scene hasn't been triggered you'll usually get a dream by long resting after using the tadpole a bit. I've heard that Raphael will appear the night after you try and fail with one of your leads to cure the tadpole - so meeting Nettie, priestess gut, going to auntie ethel's house, and possibly the gith patrol. I am very excited for patch 4 can't wait to play a druid too!

@@03irisiris10 yeah it is EA. I didn’t know that! That helps. BG3 is so detailed with divergent paths, you don’t really play the same game each time. I love that!

@@dominika3762 I think they should have kept a nightmare scene. Maybe not Act 1. He would never tell you about it in Act 1. But two, if you get closer to end and discovered the porpuse of his scars? Maybe something awakening the memories of the carving. I mean... carving deep enough for a vampire to get scars... thats... extreme

Hi! In this playthrough, I have actually recruited no one but him. The camp is pretty empty! We are both rogues and I've had to think of some new tactics to survive the harder fights as two people. I've not tried but maybe if you ask the others to leave the immediate party (but they stay in camp), they won't butt in at this part either? I do know that if Shadowheart is alive and in camp, regardless of whether she is in your party or not, her dialogue will override this and frankly I think this is the more interesting option because all she does is ask whether you gave into the illithid. Wish we could have both conversations ! Mercenaries would be a good idea. If you've never tried it, there are actually new scenes from not recruiting Shadowheart straight away so that's another good excuse to not recruit her immediately. This scene triggers after the second illithid dream(with burning city). When you wake up, Astarion will be lying on the floor and you can talk to him. Hope this helps!

@@03irisiris10 Thanks, I'll Try not recruiting her and see how that goes. I don't mind her, but I swear the devs coded it so that if she's around she gets all the dialogue. She quips in, gets reactions, etc... it's annoying. Props to you for surviving with two Rogues. I am trying to think the goblin camp with that, and I shudder a little. As for the scene, I guess I just missed it. No matter. I'll get it next playthough. :)

@@Nayukhuut yeah it's strange, maybe it's just early access hiccups. Astarion's dialogue when you walk in on the bugbear and ogre is a lot more amusing than Shadowheart's! I guess it's a good excuse to do another playthrough :) Haha I got slaughtered the first time I did the goblin mill, the trick is to sneak somewhere high up, ping arrows and keep hiding so they get confused until their numbers have thinned enough for you to shank them !

@@03irisiris10 Okay, so I think I figured it out. The first dream, did you persuade him to tell you about it? I did. I think perhaps that negated the need for this particular scene. If that's the case then jeez... go Larian. I can't imagine what coding all these different dialogue branches and choices must be like, but I'm glad they're doing it.

Your theory makes sense but I remember reloading a lot because I missed the insight check to tell he's lying after the first dream so I would be surprised if I didn't already know the truth about the first dream. It just seemed to come up with "you said your first dream was enticing" regardless. (Also I found out that when he asks you what your dream was about after the first dream if you say "I dreamt of someone... Familiar" you instantly can tell Astarion is lying without the insight check.) The biggest factor that stops this from happening is definitely Shadowheart's presence - you can also kill her the night before and reload if you just want to see this nightmare dialogue lol . Maybe his level of approval is also a factor? Edit: and yes Larian have done a fantastic job!

This scene sadly isn't in the release version. If you've noticed, he talks about using the tadpoles being the cause of the nightmares which is something that doesn't happen in the full game since using tadpoles now has quite literally no negative consequences whatsoever.

​@@graenovember I agree. It also allows us to see Astarion slowly but surely opening up; it feels more fluid, if you will. That "you're not a stranger anymore. Just strange" feels so rewarding to hear when you're doing your best to earn his trust.
