The 60th Anniversary Diamond Eagle D-104 from Astatic is a good looking and performing microphone for Cb Radio. However it does have some issues.

I run the Silver Eagle myself never knew about the plating issue on the Diamond... I think you are spot on for the price of them...

In Europe, everyone would want even a regular D104 on a gray TUG base.

I wish I could, it is in the closed with a HR2510 in the box as well. This HOA killed the hobby down here in Fl.

Oh man I lived like that for almost a year. I put up a 1/4 wave ground plane made of wire, put it in a tree and had some fun. Does it work as good as a "real antenna" on the roof? No. But that little 2510 on SSB will do you good. I made a video on this, check it out. I hope to hear you on the air sometime down the road. I had a couple years ago but not a diamond.These were great in the densely populated U.K. for causing splatter especially on the still great Cobra 148 GTL-DX,I’ll never forget the complaints from anyone either side of whatever channel i was on,great days…haha

Hahaha..... Back in the 70s everyone in my area had a power mic of some sort and bleed over was most definitely annoying. The 148 DX is a classic, both then and now. IMO Cheers

I beleive these things were selling for $199 when they came out. Personally, I like my 1976 Golden Eagle better!

Back in 76 or so I had a neighbor who had a Tram D201 with the Golden Eagle mic. I must say when I saw his station I was in awe! Man he sounded good even though that D201 did not need a power mic.

I own 3 of the Golden Eagle models and I have never paid over $50 for any of them.I paid $100 for my Night Eagle from a close friend.🎙

I GOT ONE NEW IN THE BOX. I DIDNT KNOW WHAT WAS IN THE BOX, AND OPENED TO FIND MIC HEAD, STAND, CLOTH (cleaning??) 1/4 PHONO JACK. ALL IN ORIGINAL CELLOPHANE, FOAM PACKING, ETC. . SERIAL NUMBER IS UPPER "9000". THEY ONLY MADE 9999 IN 1976 TO CELEBRATE THE USA BI-CENTENIAL. MAKE OFFER.

They all pitted and the gold wore off. It was never addressed or fixed despite what you were told by Astatic. All D104s also had very week crysral mic elements and were known for failure even when not in use or even touched. They just quit working.

Just curious...if one was offered in never opened NOS, would the amount you would be willing to pay change?

I may pay a few dollars more, the box would have to be in very good condition with little no signs of yellowing ( moisture ) or dents. Keep in mind that the contacts in the switching mechanism corrode and need cleaning. In my experience D-104s that just sit can be a PIA switch wise, the mic elements are usually in good shape.

@@390WagonMaster Thank you! As as younger man, I had a 2 year stint with a silver eagle that I absolutely loved and used every day. I never saw issues of any sort with mine (except for being a fingerprint magnet). In the long game did silver eagles fair better? If so, what price range would you put on the silver eagles?

in the box with paperwork in mint condition is 500.00 all day long 2 were sold on ebay last month I sold one of them!!!

I just use a microphone to put audio into the radio. If it sounds good, works well, that's good enough. I'm not paying big bucks for a microphone to look at. It's for talking into, not a work of art.

I hate to say it those late model astatic D-104 Mics are garbage. The plating is only single dipped the plastic rod internal warps & mushrooms. But those MC-320 crystal cartridges are great

That's just made for the operator to look at. The guts are cheap. It's basically a polished turd. The TUG-8 was much better sounding and better built by far. I have my tug-8 from the `60`s still. The golden turd is long gone. I traded it for a Turner +2 in pristine condition.

It’s Not Gold in any sense of the word.It’s BRASS.The Golden Eagle is God Plated not the Diamond Eagle model.🎙
