@@robstan5537 mannnnn.... So you haven't looked anything up on Elden Ring at all? It just popped up & you took the time to study a thumbnail like that?? Me personally, as it was a surprise boss, didn't see him coming but after playing and looking back I still would have got nothing of a small thumbnail where you could barely see him. My advice, if you don't want "spoilers" in the future don't type anything in Google. Especially when you're playing the most talked about game in the world right now.
@@palmettopunisher2058 You must have very little going on in your life to feel the need to defend a random youtuber you've never met. They put spoilers in the thumbnail, there was no need to do this and it's inconsiderate. Period. I get lots of elden ring videos suggust in my feed because I watched some beginners tips videos, and none of them have had any spoilers. You don't need to "study" a picture to see it as that's not how vision works.
as a mostly meelee built player, it's hard to land a hit on him. I'd keep trying to hit for about 10 minutes then i'd eventually die from his grab attack.
After about 20 tries yesterday, I finally persisted and beat him! By far the hardest boss I fought to this point, but that Dark Moon Greatsword was so worth it!
Glad to hear that the great sword is worth it. I beat radhan today and though "I must be at least 1/2 through the quest line" 🥲. Now that I realize how much more I need to do it's nice to know people feel like it's a worthy reward.
@@gregoryguillory5340 honestly after beating Radahn the only other hard part is fighting Astel. After I beat Radahn I did the rest of the quest up to Astel in like a day of playing.
there is a cheese for melee, were he spawns there is some coffins.. Just stand on the other side off the coffin when the shadow is on the other side and his attacks wont reach you and after his attacks just run towards him and land a heavy attack..Rinse and repeat... When he tries to go around then you can also go around the oposite direction and do the same method.. :)@@Brothers-of-challenge
This boss kept one shot-ing me I had to head straight to Rennala to reallocate several points to my Vigor stat to 40 so I can stand a decent chance against it. (But even it’s grab attack can still one shot me…) I also relied on the Uchigatana’s “In Unsheathe we trust”, jump and strong attacks on it’s head to deal good damage and stagger it at least once. “good luck, don’t give up!”
For those who are struggling if you have a spirit named latenna the albinauric you can make this boss fight 10x easier just place her at the entrance and all you have todo is distract the boss and occasionally bash it on it’s skull, Latenna will be providing a continuous stream of damage with her bow and her range is crazy
@@IsolatedFreedom_ This isn’t the Astel from mountaintops of giants, this is the Astel you have to beat for Ranni’s quest line, they’re two different bosses despite looking the same. And the spirit summon Latenna, can be obtained in Liurnia, you don’t have to go to mountaintops of giants for that.
Great guide!! Thank you! No 20-minute of needless dialog, straight to business--I love it! I chose a Faith build and stuck with that and used a combination of the Halo Scythe +9 (Cleanrot Knights equipment from Aeonia) left trigger attacks and Mimic Tear. I followed your tactics regarding his disappearing and his ranged attacks and they were spot-on. I used one vigor flask and one FP flask total--one of the easiest boss battles I've fought, but I think it's because of your tactics.
@@parkerholland4597 you could try using the boulder farm, it takes awhile but you’ll be a high enough level eventually. I’d also recommend getting the mimic tear and upgrading it, and upgrading your weapon. I did all that, and still struggled but you should be able to get the timings down eventually.
Once you walk through portal 1)dodge beam 2)summon 3)rock sling 4)only hit him twice and run far away(too dodge his gravity attacks) 5)rock sling some more 6)repeat
I love the lore of this boss. Spoilers. Part of Ranni/Rennas quest . This boss blew me away, like a genuine discovery. Cosmic entity, cosmic horror - I want to know more. Fascinating.
@@brianwalker627 Believe it or not, not everyones 130 hrs in. Not everyones a mage. I disagree with your “obvious” statement there. The games anything but obvious. This might be peoples first souls game. My first play through, some npcs questlines I completely missed and if you really wanted to progress a quest line you’d prob need to look it up, not everybody wants to do this.
The lore seems to point towards magic, especially the more powerful variants, being cosmic in origin with the stars themselves being the source of such power. Hence why you find Starlight Shards, why Astrologers are the sorcery starting class, and why powerful spells reference astronomical objects with names like Star Shower or Comet Azur. Rennala, the main sorcery boss, even just straight up throws the moon at you as her main attack. Astel seems to have come from space which explains its powerful magic attacks. Another point, Astel shares a similarity to the Fallingstar beasts and the Malformed Star beasts, they are all elongated with pincer like movements and dangerous magic attacks with a purple hue. The other two monsters have a clear association with the cosmos, Malformed Stars from their name, and for Fallingstar beasts as their name implies they seem to have literally fallen out of the sky into their locations you find them, especially the full grown one near Volcano Manor that's cavorting around a large impact crater. The Malformed Stars are admittedly found underground but even there that can be explained as their proximity to Nokron, where paradoxically you can see the stars from underground, implying, to me, some kind of link between Nokron and the Cosmos. Basically, what I'm saying is that Astel and similar creatures are literally aliens from space and space itself is the source of magic in the world of Elden Ring, hence why its such a powerful magical boss.
For int builds - after couple of tries I just had mimic tear tank his hits, went under him and spammed entire fp bar on meteorite. Absolutely deleted him. Rock sling also deals good posture damage to his head, so get that magic Misericorde stabbin'
bro I just rock sling every boss until death. It kind of sucks because I like to mix up my spells when i'm exploring but at the end of the day rock sling is so damn OP with boss fights with the ability to stagger them
I'd been doing a Dex build for archery since the start of the game, but respecced into Int when I picked up Astel's Wing. Came at this guy with my new sorceries and he steamrolled me half a dozen times. So I switched back to the bow and sent my Mimic Tear in to draw aggro. First try. Didn't even respec back into Dex. #bowgang
Thank you! Beat him next try after watching this even though, I really couldn't put much of the advise to use. Watching someone else fight it properly, was all i needed. Being purely melee, instead of hanging out near him trying to do damage, and getting dizzy and getting destroyed, I just sat back and waited for him to do that up in the air, barrel roll, gravity punch attack. Then rolling forward to dodge it and just poking his face off until needing to back away again. Only being able to lock onto head made my normal instincts to get in close worthless. Also the magic damage reduction charm +1 and the all non-physical dmg reduction charm put in a lot of work for me haha
Just keep a max level latenna, Ash summon near the entrance and stay near boss, luring, dodging, blocking. She soloed the boss for me, as long as I kept aggro of her
I love how with every boss in Elden Ring, someone talks about the boss, then someone is in the comments like "Just have a +10 [Summon] they soloed the boss for me, this boss was easy" lmao. I've seen it so many times now
@@grantgarbour to be fair plus 10 summon is easily accessible, by the time I looked I was able to fully upgrade my mimic and any other summon I wanted to 10. And if it’s not a “legendary” summon it takes no more than 5 mins to pick up the levels on ig
@@grantgarbour what's worse is the summons technically aren't even soloing the boss since the players also have to attack to keep aggro off them, as OP just stated. lol
Rotten Breath is powerfully strong One of my go to Faith abilities for large mobs or cheeky chip damage on a boss Edit: Also against void boss, My summon (Mimic) was used as a melee distraction. Then was able to get in behind and put the damage in. Used a bow in between when closing the gap, Lot of running about in this fight
I also have rotten breath with dragon communion seal +6, 17 faith and 42 arcane but it just doesnt seem to be doing the same damage that he does, or probably you as well. In fact it almost does no damage at all? Wtf can be wrong?
@@MrMilanistaSwe Hey, with Rotten breath your really more looking for the reliable DoT I find that it’ll usually take two full breath attacks to apply the de-buff onto a boss, as far as reliable straight damage, with a max Dragon seal and roar talisman its O-K damage, but it’s power comes from the large damage it slowly ticks off over time on a Boss during a fight
Yep. Same. I think the Arena is too big, you have to close distance and then they engage. What's tricky then is it seems when it does the teleport, the summons lose it again, so you have to close.
I know I am late to the party, but I am going through my first playthrough and I have to say that the content provided by Fextralife has been amazing in helping me. This boss was nuts on my pure melee build.
Seems like the best bet is to get in on him, even as a pure int-caster, I'm finding a TON more success beating him (with his own wing) about the face and neck. That "From the left grab and chomp" is the only thing getting me. I'm way to close to see the tells...
got this boss on the first try after this video before the video I just kept dying not even getting a third of his health down but after the video first try
G that tutorial is useless to me! I have problem with like ten of them showing up at once and eating me a life no mater that I have 60 point in vitality, and it's always happens when it's on last legs. Any advice?
A dozen times, I rewound the video and watched you dodge that first attack. I don't see how you know when to dodge. It looks like you had to dodge before it fired, or maybe just as it was firing. I see that he, like, does stuff before it goes off, but actually, he does stuff, then does nothing for a few moments, and then it fires. How do you know when those few moments are almost up?
Lol. I got really frustrated with that disappearing and then grab move that I looked up the guide. Next time I killed it because it did the grab move on my mimic
I literally can't dodge the shockwaves that come out when he does ground pounds. I dodge the first one but the second or third *always* get me before I can roll again
I beat him in one try using my Godslayer build I was level 110, used the Godslayer Greatsword at +10, wearing the Godskin Apostle robes, buffed with Golden Vow & Erdtree Blessing beforehand, summoned Blackflame Monk Amon to help distract him. And I just abused the weapon art on my sword, it destroyed him in 5 hits My strength build it took me a few tries, but I used Prelate Cozier's Inferno at +20 with Barbaric Roar and set the Ash Of War to bleed, I summoned Ogha to hit him from a distance and we eventually bled him out. I was at first nervous knowing he's considered one of the hardest bosses in the game but he was still far from the hardest for me, that honor goes to Radahn at the moment. Honestly as long as your at least level 100 and have a legit build you should be fine. Good luck yall!
@@guojim yea that grab attack is a real bitch, to be fair I got really lucky in my winning attempt cause he only tried grabbing one or two times, basically whenever he starts teleporting, assume he's about to grab you, and roll, look for where he is above you, and roll again right when he starts coming down fast
can't imagine it's much different from the other bleed builds, just with rivers of blood as your weapon... really can't figure out the build yourself after reaching that level?
I beat him by having lightning spear in one hand and the golden halberd in the other as my usual strategy of guard countering and jump attacking to break poise was not working (I was built as a tanky faith shield user). I would poke him with lightning spear at mid range and when he whiffed a swipe and got close to me I would punish him by hitting him a few times with the halberd before rolling out. I found that only fighting melee was not working out as I did too little physical damage with my build, and the long range of his swipes meant I was unable to guard counter much, so with this strategy I was slowly able to poke him down.
I am not sure if my rng was great but it took about 3 to 4 rock slings to his head to stagger him. Due to the rock sling’s range, I was able to bait the tail slams.
Me and my mate did this last night took about 30 minutes for us both to claim the kills was a good fight first boss that I've found a challenge and I loved it!
People are saying this boss is hard but I found this guy stupidly easy, I don't know if I was overlevelled but this boss was stupidly easy for me. I'm 90% sure this guy was vulnerable to blood loss, i just used the straight sword dual blades with bleed and just attack the head with a starscourge heirloom ( yeah I'm not in the slightest a strategic guy)
I died umteen times to this boss til I watched this video. Got him 2nd try after. Fully charged Rotten Breath, got far away & dodged his attacks til the RB wore off... ran in & did it again. He died. Kinda funny... I have a strength build w/80 💪 & never used my weapon once.
This fight is strange, it seems my summon and I are lagging like hell while Astel moves and attacks normally without any lag . I checked another video recommending to fight it with low weight armor... I tried that and suddenly all lag were gone !
I beat him in about 10 seconds with a few charged Shard Spirals & 52 INT w/ Azul's staff. Same strat didn't work against the other Astel in Yelough Anix Tunnel, tho. Had to get creative for that one & use rot & Bloodhound Step.
