An instrumental heavy metal cover of "Gurenge / LiSA's " DEMON　SLAYER" OP theme.

ASTERISM is a young, superb instrumental metal band that aims to "break new ground in heavy metal".
HAL-CA (Gt), 19, MIYU (Ba), 20, and MIO (Dr), 22, have been communicating with music fans around the world through "heavy metal" on SNS since 2014. ASTERISM's superb instrumental metal arrangements and anime, one of Japan's most iconic cultural elements, will be combined to create a new world challenge.
On September 9, 2022, ASTERISM will release a concept cover album, "Animetic," which will include the song "Mawari Mawari Kitan.
The songs on "Animetic" were selected by the members themselves from the theme songs of the most popular Japanese animation works since the 00's. The album will be released on September 9, 2022.

I saw them in LA on their way back from SXSW to Japan. Me and my buddies (two guitarists) showed up super early out of fear the line would be like Band-Maid's a few weeks prior. Instead there was just one other guy waiting early. We got in, and the place was empty. It was like a private show. We literally stood right in front of her, within arms reach. Despite the place being empty (maybe 20 people) they put their all into it. I like other band's music better, but this was one show I'll never forget.

ASTRISMの凄さは、Voが居ないのにメインのラインが奏でられ敢えて言うならVoの必要としないバンドと云える。しかも超絶なテクニックを駆使した演奏なのに無機質なスケ－ルをなぞる演奏ではないので音楽としての感動を生む。若い頃、全ての楽器を一通り演奏でライブをしていましたが演奏能力が上がるのにつけてテクニカルな部分が出過ぎて客の乗りが悪くなると同時に奏者間で評価が上がる事に気付きました。演奏能力と音楽を調和させるのは奏者にとっては無意識化の作業になるだけに難しい作業にも関わらずASTRISMは、それをこなしています。演奏技術の長けたバンドは多々あると思いますが、音楽として感動させてくれるバンドは少なく、ライブで録音音源を上回る音楽家としての演奏を開花かせるミュ－ジシャンも稀です。その中でその全てを彼らはこなし、更に進化を続けています。ありきたりの野暮な表現ですが音楽家として演奏者とし非凡過ぎる存在で毎日のヘビロテが1年以上続いています。

Unfortunately MIO tends to be overlooked a bit. I wish more people would give him the attention and highlight he deserves. HAL-CA is phenomenal, but so are the rhythm section in this band. Not to mention that MIYU does both bass and rhythm guitar on his seven-string, pretty much simultaneously.

We want asterism to perform in the world market as they are. I want asterism to go out to the world market as they are, before their essence remains the same, before they are altered and modified for the Japanese market and their good qualities disappear. I sincerely hope that they will soon perform live concerts in the U.S., Europe, and others. They will not remain children forever. I want them to make their official debut in the world as soon as possible before the time passes them by.

そうそう!!　このドラムのセンスは普通じゃないんだよね。全ての楽曲に云えるんだけどこのフロントを支えるのは並大抵のドラマ－じゃ務まらないし、その中で調和させるにはテクニックだけじゃ済まないセンスが必要で時にドラムを中心に聴くと頭の芯が痺れる位のドラムラインに心が震える。ジャンルとしてはニッチなだけたに爆発的に周知されるかは難しいけど、世界的にみても稀有な最高のバンドなんで絶対にライブに行こうと思っています(^^♪

This must be unpopular opinion, but i think AMUSE inc. is very bad on handling ASTERISM, they gave zero MV or promotion to "Guernica" album which contains original ASTERISM songs, while making so many MV for this anime cover album... tbh, I'm at the point that wishing ASTERISM handled by a better record label who well know rock/metal scene.

They were probably out of contract with Tokuma Japan, which had released their CDs before belonging to Amuse. Judging from the fact that their second CD, Guernica, was treated almost like an indie release rather than a major release, they probably did not reach or find a sales contract with a major Japanese record label. I imagine that the decision was based on the belief that an instrumental metal trio without a singer would not sell well in the Japanese domestic market. The fact that they released a collection of anime theme song covers may also be due to the fact that they could not get a contract. They are ordinary human beings, they get older, and their talent has a peak. I just pray that they will be able to release CDs in the major markets and perform live on the world stage as soon as possible.

I have no idea how much they themselves are in control of what they want to do and how much is directed by their record label. I definitely have a preference for their more progressive sound on Guernica, and especially their live-in-studio recordings of those songs which have much more raw sound. That, and performing live is where they really shine. I'll happily listen to their anime covers, but I hope they will return to their own more progressive work. The Hard-rock & Metal genre desperately needs more instrumental bands, esp. of this high calibre, but in the grand scheme of things for a record label as an investor that will always be the less commercially successful and more risky side of that genre unfortunately. The best thing we can do as fans is advocate the music by this talented trio as much as we can.

It has already been 5 years since they released their first CD in 2018. And yet, they are still only able to perform in Japan at small live house venues with less than about 100 people and are not even invited to rock festivals. As a move to break out of this situation, they planned to make a cover album of popular anime theme songs. However, even that album was only released digitally, and not even a physical CD has been released in Japan. This is probably because the current Japanese music industry believes that heavy metal and rock music will not sell because they do not have the support of today's youth. It is really a pity that their rare talent is not understood by the current Japanese music environment.

Well my point is, not the album is bad or something like that, but I think pushing this cover album promotion too far, could gave wrong image to ASTERISM as anime cover band especially for new comer fans, while old fans knew they are totally not, as for me they is the greatest band from Japan today, if AMUSE inc is serious about this band I think they should promote Guernica album more than this anime project album. Well, first time hear ASTERISM taken by AMUSE inc, tbh I already have doubt, since I knew they are huge entertainment company but they are more talent agency than a record label, but I also knew they are handling Babymetal, so my expectation was, they will using their network with some world metal music magazine or bring ASTERISM to some metal music fests or else to properly promote ASTERISM, but it been a year I haven't seen seen anything like that. Now I just imagining ASTERISM taken by some real music record label like Interscope, Earache, Nuclear Blast, Sony, Universal etc.. I'm very sure they will treat ASTERISM properly.

@@UberNoodle 💯%. Rock music definitely has the support of today's youth in Japan. More so than in the rest of the world, rock is very much alive there and has been for decades. As the saying goes: rock never died; it moved to Japan. Like many other record labels around the world, the Japanese labels often fail to give the artists the full creative freedom that they need (esp. bands just starting out). Take e.g. BAND-MAID who had a very touch-and-go moment early on in their career. But I see no hard evidence yet of that here. Where Japanese record labels _really_ fall short however is their lack of focus on distribution/promotion to the rest of the world. The US/UK audience general reluctance to listen to anything other than English language music, and the Japanese *domestic* music industry being the largest in the world after the US simply means they have less incentive to do so.
