On Digital September 11 & DVD September 25
On the 60th anniversary of the much-adored comic book series, Asterix and Obelix embark on a quest across Gaul looking for a young druid worthy of learning the secret of the magic potion - a formula which has long helped to keep the Gaulish village safe against Julius Cesar and his invading army. However, once Asterix and Obelix begin their quest, all hell breaks loose at home as the Romans start attacking the village, and an evil wizard named Sulfurix does everything he can to steal the potion's secret recipe.

FYI, 'Secret of the Magic Potion' is the second Asterix movie animated in 3D. The first one, 'Mansions of the Gods', came out a couple of years ago and it's really good, I highly recommend that you check it out - I saw it in French though, I don't know if the English dub is any good.

Asterix was a big part of my childhood. My dad had a huge collection of comics and I read all of them. Will definitely watch this. Between this, Adventures of Tintin, Smurfs and the Lost Village, The Peanuts Movie and Into the Spiderverse, I think we're living a great time for animated comic book movies. I love it. Around 15 years back this series of cartoons were dubbed and televised on a local channel.. apparently the dubbing was so good that it actualy became realy famous over here.. so we were the generation that never had smart phones or internet, and this was our childhood..

This movie was needed. With the Disney/Fox deal going through, smaller non Disney IP's need to be seen by a wide audience or die a swift and violent way at the hands of Mickey Mouse. Good to see this movie is dubbed in English (for once) and has been given a non zero media and marketing budget here in Australia. There is hope for IP's like this (and Peter Rabbit as well) who are not Disney owned after all.

Hooray! I feel like a child again, reading this iconic French comic series in English, thanks to finding volumes of it at the local library with my mum. I've even watched a few of the old films that were made based on the comics. Asterix and Cleopatra is my favorite.

I feel so fortunate that, while I am a proud American, I got to spend so much of my youth overseas (11 years in Singapore, and 4 in Indonesia) The Asterix books aren't available in the US but I got to grow up with them anyway. I can't wait to see this. I'll have to wait for the DVD release as I doubt it will show anywhere around here.
