If a modern car finishes the 24 Hours of Le Mans it is thought of as being a competent and well-built endurance machine, but surviving the day-long test of speed and reliability in the early decades of motorsport was an achievement of an entirely different degree. Still recuperating after World War 1 in the mid 1920s, Aston Martin hired A.C. “Bert” Bertelli to lead the marque’s technical development, and being a racing driver himself, Bertelli knew the importance of endurance racing as both a tool for marketing and mechanical evolution. He led Aston Martin back to Le Mans with a new series of appropriately named LM cars, and though they didn’t topple the mighty Alfa Romeos in France, they were strong contenders and important pieces of racing history. For today’s film, we’ve assembled three of these special Astons-LM8, LM9, and LM10-to revisit the story.

I love my 1960's-1990's Porsche's and BMW's to no end. But when it comes to racing/motorsport, to me this is the most fascinating era in its history. Along with the Blower Bentley's, these Aston's are pinnacle of their respective marques race cars. Seeing them all together in person would be a life changing experience but obviously most of us will never get to witness such an occasion. So thank you to Petrolicious for perfectly capturing these absolutely stunning cars.

I haven't watched Petrolicious in a while... the content has sort of lost that basic love for automobiles over the years, but this piece is back to the roots, i.e. one car to do it all, everything alpha, the pumpkin, black sheep, etc... More content like this please.

One of the absolute best. So much driving footage, no faffing about with irrelevant owner/driver interviews.

The sensory feedback I can only imagine! And all on 90 cubic inches! His analogy of it being like a motorcycle is spot on, though I never had an Aston martin, I did have a post war open wheel MG and I have ridden all my life. I have owned the same 50 fl for 33 yrs and there is nothing like the mechanical feedback of machines as old as I am (65). Great story, but that is why I subscribe to petrolicious!

I always enjoy these beautiful videos. You should make them with 21:9 aspect ratio as used to be because they become more beautiful and cinematic.

Wonderful as always and thank you. Although a modern hot hatch could probably whoop these cars in performance terms, I can't imagine any driving enthusiast being inspired by modern tech in the same way. The sheer visceral nature of these cars as was said, underscores to me what we seem to have lost with our phenomenal achievements in modernity. A few years ago I got to drive an original and mint Lotus Europa. At the time I owned a 911 and have driven many types of cars - some quite exotic. However, that little Europa (ugly to some) seemed to speak to me in ways not dissimilar to these Astons. I loved that little machine and can only imagine how wonderful this experience was for these 3 fortunate chaps. Many thanks and cheers from Sydney, Aust - Dave

I would really love to drive a former LM racer on a race track. Good to see that those cars are driven from time to time.

I WISH we could see these kinds of beautiful automobiles more often on the roads than in a mouldy museum. Much nicer than today’s silly EV’s etc....

Beautiful cars and enjoyable story, but tell us who drove these cars. "You're holding the gear lever that, you know, they held..." Who held it? Who is along for the ride with you. "They..." It's not satisfying especially when repeated multiple times.
