Astoria Cruise Ship: 75 Years Later 

She NEEDS to be preserved. A ship with such a rich history has to be a museum ship. As a museum ship she could also serve as a memorial to Andrea Doria as well. In fact as Astoria she poigiantly carried the Andrea Doria's bell on display.

I worked on that ship ( Italia Prima) 1993-1994.... At that time, 4 months worldcruise for the cheapest cabin, I thought it was DM 14000 ( US$ 7000) breakfast, lunch , dinner included. Ships interior looks exactly the same, except for the swimming pool. Great times!! Then 23 years old (restaurant waiter) with my girlfriend and sail all around the world. Huge flashbacks now when seeing this now, at 51 years young :) No matter what season, always summer. India Australia Bora-BorA Sues and Panama Channel South Africa South America New York etc etc etc.... Damn if was our home for 2 years back in the day... Beautiful!!@

My wife and I had the best cruise ever, up the east coast of Australia, on this ship in 2012 when it was the Athena...wish it was still serviceable and returned to Australia.

Hopefully instead of being scrapped she could be saved and be turned into a museum/floating hotel like the queen Mary and QE2

I filmed the Astoria with a drone almost three years ago when she was towed to Rotterdam. It was rumored that she would be towed to Portugal for renovation. This was an amazing story. I am familiar with the incident. I was 2 years old at the time. I never thought about the Stockholm and assumed it was scrapped decades ago. Thank you for bringing this story to light. I follow The Great Big Move channel on RU-vid. I'm going to have to see if there is anything about the Stockholm on that superb channel.

I hope the scraping rumors are fake and the ship is safe in a port ready to become a museum.
