The Astoria Downtown Historic District Association in partnership with the Astoria Arts and Movement Center have been selected as 1 of 20 finalists in the 2019 Partners in Preservation Main Street Grant. The grant recipients are determined by votes and we are up against some huge cities like Seattle, LA and Austin- we are by far the smallest town in the running so we need your support!

So how did the small west coast town of Astoria even make it as a finalist?
The theme for this year’s Partners is Preservation grant is Women in History and inside the Astoria Odd Fellows building, women are making history. The first building the community chose to rebuild in 1923 after a fire devastated the town, this iconic landmark at the heart of downtown is now a center for social, cultural and creative activity. Purchased by 3 local women just over a year ago, today the building houses Sea Gypsy Gifts, 12th House Alchemy, Meghann Hanour’s art studio, and Downtown Coffee. It is also home to two non-profits: the Astoria Arts and Movement Center as well as Pier Pressure Productions, a black-box community theatre. Every single business and organization in the building is owned and operated by local women.
With the help of your vote this 150k grant will historically restore, weatherize and paint the building’s entire façade including the Italianate arched windows in order to ensure it will continue to serve the community for generations to come. Community helped us save the building- now help us restore it!
