Hi to all the new subscribers, it's awesome to see everyone comparing all the vauxhall's they owned back in the day! I had a B reg white 8v GTE me and my dad resprayed purple, I did the most miles (and learnt the most about driving) in an 1989 2.0 GLi Cavalier my Mum let me use, (F592 FVM). One of the best memories was taking my Dad's Omega Elite 3 litre company car to Amsterdam for my 21st birthday, and holding it in 3rd on the auto box in france, it maxed out at 135mph. Later there was a black 1992 Astra Gsi on twin 40's, but they made it a bit of a nightmare to drive. It looks like we are going to restore this blue astra before the 2 16v Gte's in the storage room. This has just appeared on my feed. I still got mine. If you need advice, gimme a shout. If its not starting from the barrell, its either that imobilser which needs pulling out, or problem from behind the barrel or switch. My monies on the imobilser. Dash lights need new bulbs, but before u buy new bulbs, check the contacts are good behind the digi dash. A good twist or tweak may get them back on. I noticed the light symbol was on for side lights or dipped beam, if they were on & dash lights go out, but work when u turn sidelights off, the fault is with the turn wheel. Bridging the wires sorts that out.
Dean Scott really? I’m sure they did a model with the digi dash, maybe not the gte or gsi models but I’m almost certain they did because I saw a grandmothers nova standard with a digi dash and thinking about it I’m not sure she would have modded it herself, she owned it from new!
@@Alexander_l322 its certainly something that I've never heard of and I've worked on vauxhalls all my life. May be a foreign model option or something.
I like these older cars better for design. I think this car was also badged as Opel and Chevrolet in other countries. Better looking than the newer tasteless stuff in my opinion :).
It surprised me so much, as you could probably tell, and it drove! I think that alone makes it deserve a restoration rather being broken.. thanks for watching.
@@timneale8869 Why would you say that ? I'm not a Vauxhall fan because I owned a couple of them, and didn't really gel with either. Am I allowed to have tried owning some cars and ended up not liking them, or does that automatically mean I am a 'hater' ? I love RWD cars, so it's not just Vauxhall's that don't really get me excited. I can still appreciate the video, and the age of the car though.
@@DjNikGnashers well I own corsa D I would love to put a bigger engine in it. Something like a 2.8 out of a vecter vxr with a automatic transmission . As for Vauxhall hater everyone to there own .😀
In South Africa we had a special version of the GSi called the Superboss, it had a 276 degree Schrick Cam with a new intake system and new 4 to 1 Exhaust system, Irmscher suspension and various other upgrades and had the most torque per liter of any production car, a record which it held for almost 20 years, only to be beaten in 2009 by the Ferrari 458. In the early 2000's I drove my moms one and it was crazy fast, I disintegrated the side wall on one of the front tires and ripped chunks of tread off the other front tire, which turned out to be manufacturing defects in the Continental Tires so they replaced them but I was ban from driving the Opel after that.

I can’t believe the state that’s in @0:25. I remember walking past these in 89/90/91 when they were brand new and just looking at them. I still remember that feeling like it was only today. That’s an unusual colour for a GTE, weren’t many blue ones, (star mist blue). There were loads of white, red and charcoal grey then the odd black, silver or blue. There was also a burgundy GTE Champion edition, lovely motors. There was also an aubergine colour as standard but not very popular, it was like a purple colour, I also remember seeing a metallic green GTE 16 valve around 1992, it wasn’t even a year old so I’m sure it was a Vauxhall colour.
I had a white 8v when i was 19, me and my dad resprayed it purple. I loved that car, and have kind of hoarded them as soon as I had somewhere to keep them. Thanks for watching.
Fist car was an 1998 1.6 8v Astra Club (no street cred whatsoever) but my god it was bullet proof, had well over 178k on it and started fine every time, no heating so used to get frost on the inside of the glass. Ended up in the scrap heap in the sky when a wagon crashed into it in a car park and pissed off. I'd be lying if I didn't get emotional when the scrap truck came to pick it up.
Good video 👍 I've just managed to get my hands on two of them !!! One is an 8V and the other a 16V, just in the process of getting the 8v sorted and hopefully getting it fit for the road
This one is rusty but it's all fixable and panels are pretty cheap for these. It looks like I'm gonna fix it from the feedback. Watch this space! Luckily I just ordered a new welder...👍
I think it was LWT's intro, there are all the different versions they used on youtube, I got it off a jaguar skills download album, (Radio 1 saturday night) this in my opinion makes it even cooler!
Great old cars these,I had a H reg 16v in white about 23 years ago,another one I should have kept with my E reg 2.8i capri😥😥what a garage I would have had now...
I remember the old days when I had one, same year, same colour, great old cars in their days, easy way round the imobiliser was the wires for the hazzard lights or the two live feeds for the stereo and it just needs a push to start
@@mrwolf9335 Mines had a Thatchem approved imobiliser and I didn't know of a vauxhall of the era this never got round the imobiliser. Unless you had a switch hard wired in and hidden which is the only reason I still have my classic mini Cooper
I reckon that alarm immobiliser was causing you a bit of an issue there.. also see that prong you put in the dash if I remember right you have to leave it in when you turn the key .. similar to what I had on my fiesta .. nothing but a nightmare set up them kits. Ok when they work.. murder when they c*ck up mate. Sod it all off and use a good disklock be easier. 👍 Keep up the good work ..
Only Vauxhall I ever owned was in the early 90s, a 1986 Cavalier SRi... which was great, until the cam belt snapped 🤦🏻 Enjoyed that though, hopefully the car is rescued further.. 👍🏼
I once owned a now rare mk2 1990 astra sri 1.8 8v 3 door in bordeaux red same colour as the 2.0 gte 16v one. Never saw one exactly same as mine in the same colour ever always blue,white and bright red ones Wish i kept it. I sold it to a prison officer in bradford back in 2004 and he said he was going to use it for private track use only and not use it on the road. It did 192,000 miles and the engine was perfect using no oil and on the original clutch & gearbox all perfect. It failed on its mot on the sills and a bit underneath hardly anything really. The rest of the body was straight and the paintwork mint with the bottom of the doors mint too. I wonder if it still exists. G304 EAJ. I would do this up if i were you will have some value in the future.
I loved these cars back in the day, loads of friends had them! My mate had a gsi cabriolet n was a right laugh! You always wanted the red top engine though, would pull n pull right up to 155mph awesome cars for the day!
we had a red top cavalier turbo 4x4 a super super rare car these days! wish it didnt get rear ended the engine went in a mk1 corsa in the end up after it was written off,my dad had a cavilier gsi2000 aswell and
@Arron Somerville a few mates had novas n corsas with the red tops in, a friend had the Astra Belmont, they were the engine to have! Always remember going in the corsa n nova! Scary stuff in a little Tin can going that fast 😂
Had a Black Rare AF 5door 1.8L GTE on either a D or H Plate cant remember which now. Was black with a red Vaux Motif on the frnt passenger wing/bonnet!! Used think it was the sh*t bck then!! Be good see few vids restoring this 1!!
I had a 16v one in white, 189.9 BHP 174lb , 7.5k rev limit. ACE FUN! Would kill STI's, boxers, and a lot of so called hot hatches, and lower powered super cars.
Please get it back on the road if you aren’t planning to I would be interested in buying it and getting that beast back on the road fix them holes and make it lovely again.
I just checked and the last logbook was issued in 2000, and it was last taxed in 2001 so it might be a gonner unless it's tucked up in a garage somewhere...sorry....
There is every chance its just the plug on the back of the ignition barrel has worn, and that's why it won't crank on the key, direct from key to starter solenoid on those, also, fuel pump relay are prone to fail.
They were throw away back then, I bought one that should of been scrapped spent 2000 on it and sold it for 1000. They are getting there now! Thanks for watching.
This was the second version of the Astra here in the UK. Opel renamed the Kadett to Astra with what was (for the UK) the mark 3 Astra. Astra's have always (and still are) been made here in the UK. Oddly enough, it was the other way round for the Corsa. What was the mark 1 Opel Corsa for you, was the Vauxhall Nova for us in the UK. Then the mark 2 Corsa for you was the mark 1 Corsa for us.
I think I'm going to restore it after all these comments.. I might sell one of the 16v's I have in storage and keep this instead..Thanks for watching. I'll do a video on all the ones I've got soon.
20seh is the code it's a great engine c20ne came along in the j plate onwards cavs and astras the "c"stands for catalyst which on wouldn't of had. Looking at rocker it could be 20ser which was fitted to the astras basically same lump as the 20seh
I'm pretty sure the gte 8v was a 1.8 in the first few years then got the 20ser lump which was about 126bhp the 20seh which I have in my cav is the sri130 lump the astra and cav ran slightly different ecus basics are the same. It's the same with the 16v redtop engines u have cat and pre cat I.e c20xe and 20xe c again is the catalyst model after 1992

Yeahhh fix it, bound to gather you plenty of viewers - can’t remember the last time I saw one of these on the road, so would be a big shame to break and scrap it
