@AnthonyUK Great idea but there are serveral reasons why no such satellite exists: Firstly the larger the coverage area of an satellite shall become, the more power you need for transmission but power supply in space is limited by the size and weight of solar panels and especially the batteries which power the satellite while passing the shadow of the earth. Alternatively people could switch to 2m-dishes in order to compensate the lower signal level, which appears unfeasible.
@AnthonyUK [continuation of previous message] But most important of all there's limited frequency spectrum available for transmission. You can broadcast an indefinite number of channels from the same orbital position. However from another orbital position you can reuse frequencies and send let's say another 2000 channels.
