The start collecting boxes weren't a thing like 1 month after he announced it i think. It might have been after the first game but I know it was early in the lifespan of the deathmatch.
With the Combat Patrol boxes in 10th alledgedly having the same points value across the board for a small game will you likely do a similar series with them? Would love to see that!
Yeah I can't wait till they put more guardsmen in the boxes or just give custuds like 3 models for their box they've had a cheap and elite army for too long
Every single time I see the slaanesh mounts all I can think about is that small comic with "To mount them you first need to let them mount you" and I'm reminded of how horrid slaanesh is. Also love the series, I've been waiting for a new episode.
I just loved when the one unit and/or character did that one special thing against that other unit and/or character. Classic midwinter minis battle report shenanigans!
If that was your first game, would you play again? $400 in, for rulebooks, paints, rules, codices, and wow - what a swingy game, where victory is based on secret stratagems you’ve never seen.
I was waiting because I just wanted to see the guard in action, even if I felt it’d be a pretty stacked game. It was pretty awesome, the ending was like the ultimate example of constant twists and turns
The bright paintjobs on these work so well for a battle report. It makes the armies really easy to tell apart and fun to watch. Nice change from the horus heresy dark marines vs more dark marines battle reports I've been watching lately!
I know we aren’t supposed to leave spoilers but I’m still in shock from the Celestine/sanguinius pregnancy scare. This is the weirdest and most dramatic episode of general hospital Iv seen
I imagine it's a massive amount of work to put these together, but it would be awesome to see this series wrapped up this year and then progress to Combat Patrol with its 10th Ed rules for another series going forward on a new table, but keeping this arena as a tie breaker Pokemon stadium for Warlords to duke it out, one on one. Anyway, another great Deathmatch. Have really enjoyed these over my hobby journey for the last few years.
Will future battle reports use 10th edition? And also, it's always satisfying seeing the models on a board! EDIT: Should have finished the video, keen to see the transition to 10th edition.
Gutted at the outcome but it was a tone of fun to watch all the same, only thing i can say is.... i'd probably have used my CP more early on haha, looking forward to the next battle!
Really glad to see these matchups come back, and here's hoping that we will see even more matches soon! I think GW should seriously consider gifting you the entire set of upcoming combat patrols for an upcoming season because CLEARLY they watch your channel the way the rest of us do, which is primarily for painting tutorials and wanting to see the warlord titan project slowly come together, and other miscellaneous MWM shenanigans, except they absolutely, definitely, 1000% have never watched ANY of your start collecting tournament matches, and the combat patrols that are coming out are a totally original creation of theirs lol. Thank you for the quality content as always, Guy! Cheers! P.S. any predictions on which armies might make it to the final or at least the final 4? Maybe consider a little bonus video or something once this first round ends and put up your predictions for what armies might come out on top and then we can see how it all pans out as the tournament develops.
What a cool battle report. It looked like a really fun game. Looking forward to the next one (and the 10th edition games!). Also loved it when ****REDACTED****
Guard should have lead with the Russ and left troopers at the back. Hope we don't have to wait long to see Tau, pew, pew, barney and mcgrew the toaster enthusiasts.
I love these start collecting battle reports! They’re quick, entertaining and they’re teaching me how to play 40K. I’d love to see one big final battle at the end, where every start collecting box goes head to head until everyone is dead.
Honestly, still I'm the process of painting my first 40k squad of ork boys. This kinda stuff makes me so excited to play, thanks for the great easy to understand content as always
This makes it a lot easier to understand the game as one of the issues with 9th edition is that it is very difficult to understand if you're new to the game. Hats off to Guy!
The penal legions is such an underrated part of the Astra Militarum, wish they had something like an upgrade sprues for them. Nethertheless, they look great!
All guard rules mistakes You cannot give orders to a tank commander Commissars no longer have leadership aura Hits generated by "shock troops" rule count as 6s therefore autowound "shock troops" still triggers during overwatch Commissars have 4 wounds
Kind of annoying you ran the russ as a tank commander since you didn't build it as one, also you broke the rules in that mechanised orders only work on units with the SQUADRON keyword, which tank commanders don't have, so you can't issue orders to the tank commander with the commissar. The only way to order an issue to an officer is with the auto reliquary of tiberius relic which can only target itself. Also on blast weapons, it is a minimum of 3 shots total into a unit of 6-10 models, not a minimum dice roll of 3, so the blast rule would have no effect.
Think the outcome might have been different if 1. the boxes were balanced XD 2. If the chariot wasn't allowed to have been hanging off the board and had to go down the middle of the table..
Us Tau players and the AdMech players have been waiting for our turn at the bat so long that not only are Start Collecting boxes no longer a thing, but soon 9th edition itself won't be either! Oh well, I suppose somebody has to go last!
Hey I'm not sure what others opinions are in the matter, but I think you should finish this tourny in 9e even after 10th drops, just so that if one of the factions gets nerfs or buffs it'll still be the same rules to show which start collecting box is the best.
Personally I probably would have had the Russ run up the center and keep the Cadians behind cover. Then focus fire on their infantry first before focusing on their hq. A bit risky but I think it might pay off
Great battle report but leman russ tank commanders cannot be issued orders only as they don't have the squadron keyword if it was just a standard leman russ it would be able to receive the orders
Hi Guy, great vid as usual. Just wanted to say that the new GW boarding patrols playing each other looks like a direct copy of your start collecting death match. Hope you’re getting royalties! Lol
i did not expect that to end so close (maybe not vp wise but just overall), great fun, always cool to see a full experience with all painted minis and board and fitting dice - rarely get those myself
I don't play and I only rarely paint anymore, but this was a great battle report. Good narration, fun players, fantastic looking battleground, thematic minis... all of these added a lot. The smaller game size made it a lot easier to understand what was happening (for someone like me that doesn't know the rules specifics) turn to turn. Great work!
That was so much fun! Look forward to the next, Tau and Ad Mech is an always a fun shooting match. So you think when 10th Edition comes out you'll continue the deathmatch but with 10th rules?
On one hand, focusing on that chariot made it go around and almost have no target for it psychic attack. Almost. On the other hand - did I got it right that tank cannon had enough range to reach those demonettes (however one spells it) on the opposite said of the battlefield?
Hey Guy! I love this series and you actually got me into Warhammer. I am an Admech player so i'd like to impart my wisdom of how i paint Mars Admech although you already have an idea. I have tested quite a few different ways of painting them but my favorite was: For Troops/HQ's: 1. Prime with chaos black then a zenithal highlight with corax white (aerosol not paint, this will be important later). 2. base with either the martian ironearth with a drybrush of a bone/white color and some little tufts of mordian corpsegrass or similar. The rims will also be painted with steel legion drab, of course. 3. For the coats of the skitarii and tech priests I use the army painter speedpaint blood red (the original ones that reactivate) which is a really nice red. 4. Then for all of the metal areas (backpacks, legs, etc etc) i use leadbelcher or a darkened down silver with a wash of nuln oil and fixing of any mistakes with the previous metal, and a highlight with stormhost silver and a final drybrush of ryza rust on top of it all with maybe a dash of typhus corrosion underneath (really good rust effect). 5. For the lenses I just use thousand suns blue and temple guard blue on top with a bit of white and for the special guns/weapons i will use the same as with the lens or light green / hive dweller purple speedpaint. And for the Vehicles: 1. Same zenithal highlight and basing 2. Coat with mephiston red, only put agrax earthshade in recesses, edge highlight with evil suns scarlet. 3. Metals will just be darker metal paints like leadbelcher with a wash of agrax earthshade all over then recoat only edges/raised areas with the metal paint and then an edge highlight of stormhost silver 4. beige/tan areas will be done with zandri dust, i found not any need to highlight or shade even but if you want to just use nuln oil around corners of panels and crosshatching of a lighter color on panels to simulate wear and tear. I will also accept any c&c in replies:
ik no spoilers are supposed to be here, but i’m sad that SPOILER ALERT! none of the imperial forces made it through :( i guess i’ll have to hope for admech to win, they are humanity’s last hope
Was really waiting for this game for the last two weeks. The anticipation!! AND WHAT A GAME!! Probably my favourite series of warhammer on YT. I Really hope you consider something similar with 10th ed combat patrol.
Battle reports. I really enjoyed your calab when IDICbeer held his tournament, it was great to see so many Necron players there. More Necron battle reports please. And if you can’t find a player, maybe PLAY BOTH ARMIES and go against the Tyranids.
Wonderful painted minis and am greatly looking forward to the next match! Admech VS Tau? You couldn't get a much better rivalry!! Glory to the Omnissiah and may the machine god bless your machines to never fault or fail!
