In this in depth video comparison I talk about the benefits of both themes. First I talk about the free versions, which are in my opinion the best 2 free themes for Wordpress. After that I will talk about the premium features of both themes. In the end I will talk about the pricing of the premium packages.
If you want to use a free theme for Wordpress, Astra and OceanWP are the way to go!

With the free version of the Astra theme and OceanWP theme you can create a beautiful website! There are a lot of customise options and they both make use of Elementor as a page builder. So with those free themes and free page builder.
In the free version the OceanWP themes seems to have more options. But with the Pro versions of the Astra and OceanWP theme, all the Astra packages are for unlimited websites and the OceanWP theme starts with a license for one website.
I also hear people about Generatepress so soon I will make a tutorial/review about Generatepress.

Thanks Ferdy for the review. If I may put my 5 cents in...: Astra (free version) lacks a lot of things (some deal breakers for me) that Ocean WP has going for it. Astra has very limited typographic features (read: you need CSS to design almost everything), doesn't have a topbar nav option, doesn't have the option to put a shopping-cart in the menu (you need a extra plugin), doesn't have a search field option for the menu, doesn't let you change the width of the content-area (sidebar too wide) and I could go on. I understand they want to earn a buck and put those missing features in the Pro version, but the free OceanWP is much more flexible and if you pare it with a builder to create dynamic content you are set. The customizer of OceanWP can be sluggish (you can improve this by disable customizer panels) and the overall design is not my cup of tea, so again you need a page builder to make this your own.

Thank you so much Ferdy for this fair comparison, Personally, I think the best themes are Ocean WP and ASTRA & in less degree some others (Astral, Phlox, Enfold, Envo multipurpose...) depending on the purpose of the site. So, would you please tell us more about Astra (free theme) which is lightweighted (supports only 50 KB on frontend) and breaks up very frequently ?! If anyone have an idea about this, Please share your opinions ;) . I'll be glad to hear them.

Hey Ferdy, first of all nice comparison of the two themes! I'm currently planing my first website as a hobby/sideproject but can't decide which theme to choose. I'm currently swinging between Avada and The7 but heard of some people that those multi-purpose-themes are way to bloated and I should go with a lighter theme with just a pagebuilder. OceanWP with Elementor/WPBakery was recommended to me for example. What is your take on this? Any recommendations and/or advice on which route to go? Looking forward to hearing from you :)

One note - with Astra mini agengy - you only get ONE of the two page builder extra integrations - either Elementor or Beaver Builder. you have to get full agency to get BOTH page builder plugins extra integrations I'm pretty sure

Great video. I would maybe be tempted for the Astra if only for the auto resizing for smartphones. Most people these days will check the web page on their phone first and if they are interested go to a full screen computer. I would be interested in getting advice on this aspect. Thanks. First start with Astra theme than use Astra sites to make a website quickly and finally change theme of the website from Astra to ocean to getter colour header and better control on footer.

With Elementor Pro a lot of the basic pro elements of these themes really don't matter. With a blank canvas and Elementor you are basically set.

@@JeremyThomas_Environmentarian Yes, with Elementor Pro you can create a template for the single posts and another for the category pages and then set each of them to be used as the single posts and category/archive page template on the whole website for instance. Of course these templates can match the appearance of the other single page templates you created with Elementor. You can save each template and use them on a new template, import and export...

Good day Santiago Garcia. The Elementor Unlimited gives you updates for 12 months. After that, you can still continue to use the plugin but you will no longer receive updates. In order to receive the updates after your initial 12 month period, you will have to renew (like your hosting, or domain name) your license. However, I do believe that the renewal price is much much less than the front end price. I hope this helps :-)

@@piratebasscaptain Yes, the builder is quite slow compared vs. elementor, but it's great. It's not bloated, and it can be fast AF if you use WP Rocket and Perfmatters. One of my heaviest ecommerce is A-96 in pagespeed.

It depends on which information you have on your website. OceanWP free is better for a blog website.

They don't mean you get your money back as in actually refunding you... they mean you get more bang for your buck by purchasing a higher priced package. In other words, in the long run you're better off buying an unlimited package if you plan on using the tools a lot. It's just a terminology, but I can understand if it's confusing for those where these terms aren't used.

I don't know. Why but New software has bugs. In the latest version of WooCommerce product filters don't work, in the old one they do. My recent RU-vid update has Broken Video browsing / skipping forward and back is broken.

I have to say for woocommerce Astra is better as it performs much quicker. OceanWP really got slow after a while and the customisation options really wasn’t as elementor friendly as Astra proved to be.
