I just want to clarify something. When I say the Astro A20 Gen is as good as the Astro A50 Gen 4 what I mean is via USB only. As the Astro A20 Gen 2 work fully via USB along with support 3D audio on the PS5. Whereas with the Astro A50 Gen 4 when you plug it in via USB ONLY you lose voice/chat balance along with EQ Profiles. Which sounds substantially worse than through the Optical Port. If you have the optical port connected to your TV or through their adapter it will sound a lot better but I don't believe (and I could be wrong about this if you know let me know) doesn't support 3D audio. Therefore, if you are buying either the A50 Gen 4 or Astro A20 Gen 2 for your console the Astro A20 Gen 2 will give you better sound for a lot better price. But is no where near as comfortable as the A50.
After owning 3 generations of A50 (including the latest 2019), 2 generations of A40 (including the latest 2019) I can confidently say that these are probably, given the price, the best Astros on the market right now. They sound essentially as good as my A40 TR + Mixamp (2019) with maybe a slightly narrower soundstage due to being closed vs open but the mid-highs / lower treble is slightly more detailed on the A20s, regardless of how much I screw around with the EQ on the A40. For precision location in games, that's nice. And that difference doesn't ruin music at all, they still sound laid back enough for tunes. Yes they feel cheaper, but still feel really strong. Also, because of the use of plastic, they feel much lighter on the head compared to the A40 and A50. For glasses wearers, these are still the king, Astro's specific fabric blend on the earcups makes less noise when you flex your jaw. Other headsets will create a "stutter slipping sound" against the side of your glasses arms which is extremely noticeable. I'm looking at you Steelseries. The breathability is good. Like all Astros, they don't heat up causing your ears to sweat. Lastly, they're the most forward looking in their lineup. Astro simply removed the built in Dolby spatial audio processing because Dolby themselves recommends using straight stereo coupled with Dolby Atmos Headphone on Xbox / PC and they are also built to support Tempest on PS5 which is processed entirely by the PS5 Tempest 3D Engine. This makes the product simpler and removes confusion. One comment on your video: The A20s actually have a "middle beep" between game and voice, not sure what you're talking about.
Great rundown. Completely agree with everything said. And you are right. I guess I was on crack when I said they didn't have a middle beep. I swear they didn't but after testing again there it is. I am now confused. lol Thanks for the callout.
You are spot on. Had nothing but problems with my a50s ,they would last me 2 and a half years tops. A20s have same drivers, same features and hundreds less
Per u/rion_j on Reddit: The 3 EQ settings are - EQ1 is the tuned for gaming Astro Sound. EQ2 is the pro setting with reduced bass and emphasis on treble (to better hear footsteps, etc) EQ3 is for those who desire more bass and more treble.
Nice review man. Very happy I watched your video because I bought these for ps5 and was pretty upset I couldn't use them on series x also. If I wouldn't of watched this I never would of found out that you actually can with another transmitter. Haven't used them much yet but they seem way better and more comfortable than my xbox wired headphones I have been using.
Thanks for this very thorough review I just bought these on Amazon with prime for $70 basically new only thing, it didn't have an original box because it was damaged. It still has all the other original packaging and booklets brand new wires Etc. I'm pretty excited to get the deal and have a nice headset 👍
They are out of stock on Amazon, I'm in UK btw. And I want them through Amazon because it's easy to return if any issues occur. I have the A10s for almost 4 years now so I want to get these A20s now! :)
I would love to hear your thoughts on them compared to the A10's whenever they come back in stock. They seem to be a pretty popular. But I do hate when things are out of stock!
@@ThomasMuehler apparently they are arriving Friday so thats awesome. But do I need to plug them into PC to update them? I've heard that on release date they didn't connect with Astro Command Center but I think they do now.
Currently have the Artics 3... I was looking for Something white and higher quality for my ps5 and I really liked these great review I just ordered them! I will also keep my Artics 3 just in case I forget to charge these 😂😂😂
Hey dude nice video! My wife has a channel so I respect the hustle with all the hard work she puts in. I rushed and grabbed the A20Playstation like a noob when my current headset started to die on me... just got it and and noticed the box said PlayStation smh... I have the Xbox... first thing I typed in was does the A20 PlayStation work on an Xbox and then you appeared. Thanks!
Hey, look at that SEO doing it's thang. Appreciate the heads up! I wish the very best to your wife and her channel. And I also hope you enjoy this headset once you get the Xbox transmitter.
@@ThomasMuehler thanks man! Look her up if you like cleaning and cooking Lauren then my last name haha you are going to blow up man I can tell! Good luck!
@@ThomasMuehler haha thanks dude. yeah man, she grinds all week. She really learned a lot from this RU-vid prenuer class. Me watching that.. wow the behind the scenes stuff for the algorithms. But like I said I totally respect the hustle and you do a great job man keep it up. Thanks again for the help!!!!!
@@JosephRomanick Yeah, I've definitely developed mad respect for those people who have large numbers next to their names. Because you don't see the hours of education, work, and actually putting it into action that happens behind the scenes. Also, happy to help anytime. If you ever have any questions just hit me up.
I really love them. I use them on both PC and PS5 with no problems. Plugging the USB transmitter back and forth between PC and PS5 is all automatic, I just press the button until it is white. Which is way faster than bluetooth pairing. I feel like they have good 3D sound on ps5 aswell.
That’s awesome! I’m glad you are enjoying them and they are working well for you. It is a lot faster than bluetooth pairing which I also like and though they did well on PS5.
Nice review, helped me make my choice to get. Haven’t use it to chat yet, but when I first set it up it made a clicking/popping noise playing No Mans Sky the on Destiny 2. Did a rest on my PS5 and that seemed to have stopped the noise.
@@ThomasMuehler played a few games of Apex last night and the mic worked good. Friends said I sounded no different than my old headset(Artics 3) . My only complaint is that when turn my PS5 the audio goes straight to the headset even with out it being on, so I have to go into my settings and switch it back to TV.
@@AQUARIAN208 I appreciate you getting back to me. Apex is one of my favorites. Great choice. I'm glad to hear the mic sounds pretty good. I do understand the frustration there with the PS5. It can be a nice setting or a not nice setting depending on your preferences. The only thing I can think of is to unplug the USB and only plug it in when you are using the headset.
LETS GET NERDY!!!!! I love this channel man and I speak for a lot of us when I say thank you for these reviews. I’m definitely investing in the A20 rather than the 3D pulses.
thoroughly watched several vedios, my biggest question tho is, what is your most reccemended headset meeting the folowing criteria, 1. Xbox series X/Pc 2. Sound preformance for say Call if duty footsteps direction etc, And music. 3. Durability (occasional rage gamer) Price point dosnt matter much, if the quality is there. 2 reccemended would be optimal as the 2nd one a cheaper option for the wife (she dosen't care about headphones and wont spend over 150ish, tho i like to give her quality) Also great job on the reviews, great ammount of information, more than most, without feeling tedious.
1. So, I haven't had the pleasure of testing a bunch of different headsets recently. With the new consoles coming out some of the old headsets which used to be great might not work to their full potential due to not being fully supported. Thankfully, Xbox does a better job at this then PS5. 2. Unfortunately, all of our ears are a bit different so something that might sound good to me might not sound good to you. So all reviews and recommendations should be taken with a grain of salt. 3. Most headsets are pretty durable these days. 4. Roger that on the Mrs. 5. Most gaming headsets have a specific tuning to sound good for games which doesn't always translate well to music. RECOMMEND: However, I've heard great things on the following headsets: 1. Astro A20 Gen 2 tends to beat out a lot of the competition in this price point. But also has some QA issues (mic and dongle) that can be frustrating. As mentioned in the review. 2. Logitech G Pro X Wired/Wireless. This is on my list to try as I've heard good things. 3. Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (This is my recommendation. Again, I've heard fantastic things and it is on my list to try.) 4. I've also heard good things with the Corsair HS70 Pro. 5. HyperX tends to punch above it's weight class in general while being comfortable and well priced. 6. The Edifier G4 TE might be a good one for the wife. As it's not very expensive, while being comfortable, and sounding good for the price point. But any of the other ones I listed above are around that $100 - $200 price range so would also work. 7. Now this is going to seem ridiculous but hear me out. My endgame would be to do some research on normal headphones and buy an external mic. For example I bought the Sennheiser HD 650 which cost about $500 (I got them on sale so didn't pay that much) and they have beaten any other headset I've tried which is why I haven't tested many headsets because I haven't had the need. Where before I never thought a headset was good enough so I kept trying and buying other ones. So, depending on how much you use a headset (I use them for everything) but if you use them occasionally then it wouldn't be worth it. I would recommend just biting the bullet and spend $500 - $600 on a brand like Sennheiser, Audio Technica, Beyer dynamic, or other top headset brands as they have great sound, comfort, and build quality and I think you will save money in the long run as you won't constantly be buying headsets every couple of years. For example I bought my HD 650's like 7 years ago and now the only time I buy a headset is for my RU-vid channel. The HD 650 are great as I mentioned but not great for gaming for me as the directional quality isn't as good as I would like but everything else I'd rate a 10/10. But again our ears are different and I've heard others say these have great directional quality. They do have great imaging but that is different. AVOID: 1. I'd avoid the Astro A50 Gen 4. For a few reasons. One QA is pretty trash. It's an excellent headset but can develop a lot of issues. Also, not fully supported on PS5 anymore without sacrificing things. I think it's better on the Xbox. Gen 5 should be coming out here soonish I would imagine (sometime this year). 2. I'd avoid anything from SteelSeries. As their products are usually overpriced for what you get and every time I have tried them I am left highly disappointed. 3. The Corsair Virtuoso was great for directional audio for me. So was build quality. But the overall sound and comfort was poor for the price point.
@@ThomasMuehler thank you for the feedback, up untill a week aso i had my eyes set on Astro a50 gen 4, but ultimatly the issues connecting to the charger base threw it out for me, then started looking into the steel series 9X since they seem to be being made for the series X and so far i've heard good things, about direct connect to xbox, but the bluetooth was a selling point on them, despite the bluetooth being bad on them, latency, and poor mic quality during, and for $200 they shoulda left it out in my opinion, and used the budget on something else, so far i've just owned like $20 headphones im not too picky, but i seen your vid on your headset testing and i deffinately get what you mean by hearing the emotion in music, used to love some songs heard on decent speakers, heard them on my headphones and was ouch.
I just bought them yesterday and there’s a big difference in my gameplay. I can hear everyone’s footsteps and can tell where they are. All for $130 compared to $300 for A50s.
Hey! Hoping to get my answer here, it is a multi device headset, but is it a multi source headset? So I can chat with my friends on pc in discord and hear gameaudio on my ps4? So I can get 2 usb transmitters, one on the ps4 and the other pc, thanks in advance!
No, it is only a single source. When on PC you do have a separate chat channel and game channel so you can balance things out. However, as far as I am aware you cannot have them connected to two different transmitters at a time. However, one USB transmitter will work on PC OR PS4/PS5 or Xbox depending on the variant you get. If you got the A50's you probably could. By having the A50's plugged into the PS4 and then do a 3.5 mm aux from your PC to the wireless base station. But the microphone wouldn't work that way. But I'm sure with some critical thinking and tinkering you could get it to work right. Hopefully all that makes sense.
@@ThomasMuehler thank you for replying! What a bummer that it isnt multi source, searched on the internet but couldnt find a clear answer. You helped me alot, I know the astro a40 and a50 are multisource, but was looking for something cheaper. Really awesome that you replied and staying in touch with the community, much love from Belgium and sub earned!
@@loiywer1292 Yeah, it would be nice if you could get a headset at an affordable price that could do both. I'm sure they are out there. I just don't know of any off the top of my head. Also, welcome to the family Loiywer, I'm very happy you are here!
I'm done with Astro...bought a pair of A10's & the mic crapped out after 2 years. Then recently,I bought the A20's & my gaming buddy could not hear my voice(despite me maxing out the mic audio setting on my PS4.) As for the A50's.....Astro is clinically insane for charging $300 & I will NEVER pay anywhere near that price, for gaming headphones.
All completely fair points that I don't disagree with. I'm sorry you've had so many issues with them. It appears they struggle greatly with the microphone.
Lucky you got 2 years out of a very cheap headset. I'm lucky to get a year and half out of my a50s,most of my expensive headsets I've had break after max 2 years
When you are pressing the game toggle on the earcup it will beep when it is fully on that side or the voice side. Then you'd just increase the volume with the volume wheel. So, for example. My voice chat is a bit too loud for the game. I would press the game button just a bit to where the voice volume would decrease to where I want then I would increase the volume with the volume wheel to increase them both back up to what I would want. Hopefully that made sense.
Just bought a replacement transmitter and I can't get it connected to my PS5... I've done the pairing process and everything seems to be connected but in my PS5 system settings, I have no option to switch from controller microphone to the Astro A20 headset.
Strange. The only things I can think of are: 1. Did you buy the correct transmitter for the PS5 over Playstation? 2. Is the transmitter on the PS5 mode instead of PC? 3. Are you getting audio just not microphone? 4. Are you sure the transmitter/headset is working correctly? Can you test it on another device to make sure? 5. Are you sure that this transmitter/headset isn't defective?
@@ThomasMuehler thanks for the reply. The instructions aren’t very good, I used an older version of Astro a50 and white was typically pairing mode for them. I didn’t know on the a20s white was pc mode! Great video and explanation!!
For my particular setup that isn't a possibility. But some headsets even when they are off will still have the sound prioritize to that. Which I sounds like is the case for this one. In order for it to switch you have to do it manually.
To be honest I probably forgot to mention it. The spec sheet says 15 hours. I haven't actually measured them but if I am using them on a constant basis I usually charge them every 2 - 3 days depending on how often I use them. So that 15 hour mark seems pretty accurate.
That's terrible news! And I'm sorry to hear that. If possible I'd try to exchange it in store. If that doesn't work I'd reach out to Astro for an RMA. As that isn't normal and shouldn't happen.
@@Sorkzi That is also an option. lol. You can buy a new USB for like $20 as well. If you are still interested in that headset and the headset itself wasn't the problem.
I'm looking to buy this for my ps5, is the bass good for music? And also does this have any echo at all? For example my old headset used to pick up my music playing on my headset and others used to hear it. Also are they comfortable and do they really stay on your head, my old one used to fall off like everytime.
It's hard to comment on bass as that is such a personal thing. I think the bass is solid (meaning I can hear it and it adds to the sound) but would consider it mild and not that strong. Echo usually happens from user error or a defect. I haven't noticed any but the way I do my audio is different than most so I'm not a good one to ask for that. Yes, I find them to be comfortable. Yes, they stay on my head. But again all your questions really come down to personal preference and vary from person to person so they are difficult to answer and may vary for you.
Usually, static is secondary to some type of interference. 1. So, trying to move things that may be causing interference away or changing the position of your PS5 to get away from those things may help. 2. Try a different USB Port. 3. Could be a defective headset and/or transmitter. Do you have something else to test on (such as a laptop away from things) to see if it does the same behavior? 4. Depending on length or if you have objects obstructing the view it can cause issues. Such as if you PS5 is in a drawer or something so you don't have direct line of sight. Outside of that I don't know.
Yes there is. It is quiet. I don't know of a way you can adjust it to be louder as it doesn't support Astro Command Center. But I also haven't checked that since I made this video so it could have changed by now.
On the gen 1 there was a lot of mic feedback(Could hear your own voice) straight into the headset which could be adjusted on the tuning app. I know the gen 2 DO NOT have that capability to be tuned soooo is the mic feedback a problem at all?
Unfortunately, I had a flood in my basement so I have no idea where my A20’s are. I don’t remember anything like that when I was testing the headset. Also, are you sure you aren’t getting that mixed up with something called “sidetone” which gives you direct feedback of your voice on purpose? if yes, again I don’t remember any sidetone in these of me hearing my own voice (as I tend to prefer that).
It's been a minute since I've used these. Speaking from generalizations I have with the headsets I've tested. Usually, while charging you will get an indication that something is happening. Then when it is fully charged sometimes that will turn a different light, sometimes it will change to be a different phase (say it was blinking to now solid) or sometimes it will turn off. But to not turn on I haven't heard of. As for the light intensity. That is not something I think I've ever seen that you can adjust the brightness of. So, that's a pretty confident no from me.
I agree with the steel series assessment. 7p’s are a money grab. Repainted headset from 2019. $150 headset with micro usb charging - full stop for me. No chat mixing, even on PC. People love the ski band, but it irritates my bald head lol.
Each of our ears are a bit different. Since there are only three presets I'd just go into a custom match 3 times and select a different preset each time and then go with whichever one sounds the best for you.
I went to go test this. But then realized that I don't have a USB C to 3.5 mm cable and I'm not going to go buy one to test it. Sorry. However, with that said I think the likelihood of that working is unlikely (as you usually need a DAC built in to make that work which would require a specialized cable). Since they don't report that it works on anything other than wireless (as they would either A. include a USB C to 3.5, B. Sell that separately which they don't, or C. also list that it works on anything that has 3.5 mm aux which they don't) I think it's unlikely. I also haven't used it while charging so I'm not sure if that then makes it wired but part of me wants to think it still comes across as wireless and just provides energy to charge the battery over making it "wired" but I'm unsure on that and it's simply a guess. So, in the end, I don't think you can use this as a wired headset and would be shocked if you could. But I've been wrong before and will be wrong again.
Hey! I have a question, I recently purchased these for my PS5 and at first the chat and game balancer was working, but after a little it stopped working, and the scroll wheel only works as master game volume, every time I turn it up towards the “voice” it turn up the overall game and chat audio and when I Turn it down to the “game” side it turn down the game and chat Audio, is there any way to fix that?
I haven't tried the Krakens except for years ago. So, I can't say which is better. But I'm a big fan of these A20's. And they perform a lot better than most headsets I've tried so they would be my pick. Regardless of which one you pick I'd love to hear your thoughts as I'm curious myself and would love to pass your recommendations onto other who have the same question.
Would you have any recommendations on how to fix an issue I’ve been having. Recently switched to PC and I can’t get them to recognize my PC. I press and hold the sync button on the USB, it flashes blue and white then it either goes back to blue or simply doesn’t stop flashing and doesn’t do anything . I also instantly start pressing the sync button as soonest I plug it in my pc and at times it turns white, but I still get no sound. 1 out of 10 times I try it, it works. Very frustrating
The USB stick is troublesome. As are their lack of directions. I don't think you're supposed to hold the button down. But instead just quick press it. As your headset is already paired to the USB stick. Then it should change color and your headset should connect automatically. You shouldn't need to pair it every single time. So, if I'm using it on my PC I'd press the button and the light should change to white? I don't remember the actual color. Been a long time since I've used it. You'd also need to make sure your sound settings on your PC are correct. Or else you won't get any sound. Then if I'm using it on Xbox I'd plug it in and press the button for the other LED color. Also, I think the USB defaults to a certain color automatically. And in that case you wouldn't need to press the button. Last, I know these USB sticks have some QA problems. As I had a bad one originally. I've had some issues with my second one as well. I've also had some people like you reach out and have issues. I do think 70% of it is user error (myself included) and the other 30% is the stick not working at all or not working the way it is supposed to every time. So, when it comes to this product I see it as one of those finicky ones where I really need to learn the nuances of the device (by spending time playing with it until I've mastered the issues. Usually by just sitting and going back and forth several times until I feel fully confident) to allow it to work correctly most of the time so it doesn't drive me nuts. Over just hoping it works when I decide to switch. Which isn't ideal but is the case for some products.
I picked up the Pulse 3D yesterday and it’s terrible. It has no base and the sound is flat. Anyone who buys the Pulse 3D is doing it for the smooth look and the brand. I ordered the A20 last night and should be delivered today.
@@ThomasMuehler the A20 has more sound options and base compared to the Pulse 3D. I play COD, so there is a lot going on and the A20 projected those base sounds much better than Pulse 3D. In terms of comfort, I personally prefer the A20 cloth fabric over the Pulse fake lather feel which after a little awhile gets uncomfortable and sweaty. The shape and size of the cups on the Astro are comfortable to the ear.
Anyone know why my ps4 shows the mic is attached but no sound comes through it? I bought the USB thingy and it’s blue, but no sound is coming through 😢
Only thing I can think of is making sure you have the USB dongle on the correct settings. Also, need to make sure that you have the correct settings on the PS5 sound settings.
Honestly, I'm not completely sure what you are talking about. Astro has previously used 5GHz band (or similar I don't remember the exact band off the top of my head) for their headsets. But they have also used the 2.4 GHz band as well. With more and more technology using both of those bands interference is happening more often than it used too. There is also 5G cellular networks. Regardless, while this could cause interference you'd most likely be OK. So, my assumption/educated guess would be yes. But again, I don't fully understand the question.
Question. I charged my headset to a power source (not from my ps) left it on overnight. It still is showing orange. Does it not suppose indicate another color when done charging? Next, I disconnect it and start using it to game and it then it turns off. So, I leave my PS4 on this time to charge it so that the transmitter stays on (not sure if that helps anything) and now the headset is glowing amber then proceeds a constant amber orange...Is it now charging or is something wrong? Also, Does this headset turn off/disconnects when it’s on but not being used?
So, the Amber (or orange) light should slowly blink and then when it is fully charge stay on. So, Blinking orange/amber means charging. Solid orange/amber light means fully charged. And no, there is no reason to keep the transmitter on. However, some devices are stupid and have to be plugged into the right thing in order to get an adequate charge. If it's not charging correctly then you've got a dud and need to go through the RMA process. Yes, it turns off automatically after 10 - 20 minutes (I can't remember the exact time. I mention it somewhere in the review) of not getting any sound.
I appreciate the constructive criticism. You'll be happy to know I have stopped putting music in my reviews because I hated doing it anyways and never could get it right. lol.
Not that I am aware of. The previous version (Gen 1) supported Astro Command Center where you could adjust the EQ. But when I last checked the Gen 2 (this guy) was not supported.
@@kobebean5027 Honestly, I haven't tried a lot of headsets recently. So, I can't give you any good recommendations. Especially, with the new consoles being out now a lot of the old headsets may or may not work well for them. I'd check out HyperX as they usually have great sound for the price. I've also in general heard that these (The A20 Gen 2) are beating a lot of the competition in the sound and comfort category from those who constantly test headsets. You could also check out Rtings.com to get an idea of good headsets in your price range to do further research on. Their reviews are okay but I'd watch other peoples reviews before buying. An example of previous gen headsets not working for current gen consoles are the Astro A50. For the playstation version they will work on the PS5 however they utilize the "Chat" channel which doesn't provide as good of audio as their "Game" channel (which is the ones with presets) and they want you to use an audio splitter which then limits your new shiny console to 4k60 Hz instead of 4k120Hz. Xbox has better USB protocol so I think it is different for them. This recommendation comes from left field and is completely random. I stopped buying headsets after I bought my Sennheiser HD650's. As I find the sound on them to be incredible and haven't found a headset that beats them yet. They aren't wireless and are a lot more expensive than $100. However, ironically I have found I spend less money now than I did previously because I haven't bought a headset since getting them outside of doing it for videos. Since I buy less headsets I'm saving money since I found my "endgame" so to speak. So, depending on how often you use a headset (for me it's all the time) you may want to consider buying a super expensive headset (~500) and then just call it quits for life. Make the investment now and then that way instead of buying a new headset for $100 every year or two you can just have one that you really like and use on everything. Also, usually with those more expensive headphones you don't need to do any EQ tuning as they are already excellent in every category from sound to comfort to design.
dealing with the transmitter having trouble switching to pc mode, i thought i was just stupid so i couldnt connect it so it only seems to work when i have it wired
Mine was defective. Yours sounds like it is too. I'd go for an RMA if important to you. Also, if you don't care about money, don't want to deal with customer support, and to get it as fast as possible you can just buy the transmitter itself for like $20.
I wish I knew a way. As I originally didn't even think it had it. Unless if they all the sudden support Astro Command Center (as I know you can make it louder there). But I don't think there is a way other than turning up the volume. The only "hack" I can think of is turning down the game volume and turning the chat volume up should make your side tone louder but also your teammates louder.
I got astro a10s and im thinking of upgrading to astro a20s while i have bestbuy discount lmao i just dont know if astro a20s would be better or getting astro a40 (they have a certain type of astro a40 for 120 instead of 200 or 300
I don't think getting the $120 Astro A40's is a good deal. As most of the magic of those comes from the MixAmp which the $120 version does not come with. So, if you upgrade I'd go with the A20's as they are wireless. However, since I haven't tried the A10's I don't know how much of an improvement it would be.
Not that I am aware of. Outside of having good mic setup and etiquette. If you are on PC I’m sure there is some software to make it sound better as well. But I don’t know what it would be.
As mentioned in the video the headset color doesn't matter but the MixAmp or USB dongle does. So, if you buy the Blue Version the dongle WILL NOT work on Xbox. However, you could buy the Xbox Dongle for $30 and then pair it with the blue headset and it would work.
Love Bestbuy but the total tech program is the worse thing Bestbuy could have done other than that the A20s get loud on ps5 when other headsets wouldn't I also wish they were black
Umm, I don't have any friends on PlayStation to test out *cries inside. But as far as I'm aware, if you're using the PlayStation version, and have the dongle set to PlayStation. I don't see why game/voice balance wouldn't work. Where are you hearing it doesn't work?
Does anyone know how to fix them? I just had it for a week and the power is not turning on. I even tried the hard reset and still nothing. and I lost the receipt..
Huh, that's super strange. I'd definitely contact Astro Support about that. If you bought it somewhere you have a membership sometimes they have backups of receipts that you can log on and find.
Yes, you can. But some users have had some issues getting it to work correctly. Usually I've found this to be related to user error over an actual defect. But something to keep in mind regardless.
@@josephcollins9061 How did you manage to set the audio to mono? Like what lol. Also, sorry for the poor suggestions. When it comes to that kind of stuff it's such a broad question and could be related to so many things I usually don't know where to start. But is usually due to A. Not being setup correctly. or B. The headset/game/both/either, not being good or working well for someone's individual ears.

hey my astro a20 don't let me talk because the mic monitoring is turned down all the way and unable to change because it is locked, if anyone could help me i would very much appreciate it.
I'm not aware of a way to improve this other than if you have a PS5 under the sound settings you can boost the microphone. I don't know about the PS4. On PC you can do the same thing.
Most products don't provide a new USB transmitter so you'd have to buy a completely new product. So don't lose it. With that said you're lucky that Astro sells their transmitters on their website. And they are actually priced low. Where other ones usually cost a lot if available. Moral of the story don't lose your stuff.
You should be able to buy a new Wireless Adapter directly from Astro and then repair it. But for other products you need to be very careful to not do that as often there aren't replacements (that I'm aware of.)
Yeah, they make some good products. But unfortunately, as of late their QA hasn't been as good as years past. So, I always recommend getting an extended warranty so you don't have to deal with Astro direct. As the RMA process if tedious.
Yes, it does. But it is pretty low. It gets louder the louder the headset gets. So for example, from my perspective I usually listen to my headset at about 50 - 60% volume which means the mic monitoring is at like 20 - 30%. Where I can barely hear it working. But if the volume is like 80 - 100% I can hear it a lot better. But then the game volume is too loud for me. Those numbers are made up but I think you get where I'm going.
I'm not sure what you're talking about? I go over all the buttons. I did mention that I'm unsure what the "profiles" were because it isn't listed anywhere. But would expect the usual of Game, Treble Boost, Bass Boost.
@@ThomasMuehler well like which sound que corresponds with each profile and what all (3) of the profiles do and their main purpose/ focus. You missed out on like a huge part of the headset?
@@chadkoehn6432 Fair criticism. They did a crap job. As they are very similar beeps and the differences between each profile are minimal making it hard to tell any difference. Which was why I didn't go into it. I'm also not someone who constantly changes their sound profiles. Plus you can't edit them (which I mention). So there isn't a obvious "main focus or purpose". But that is certainly somewhere that I can improve on.
@@robbaker6810 The Playstation one only works on the playstation one unless if you buy the wireless adapter for the xbox. As explained at the very start of the video.
Huh, I haven't experienced that. But I appreciate the heads up. I find the rubber covering is well padded while being soft enough to give some but firm enough to not bottom out. With the split it also puts pressure on the natural curvature of your head on the left and right over the center. Clamping force also seems good to put most of the pressure on the earpads. But isn't fully even putting a bit more on the bottom of the pads. But do keep in mind that I'm also not one who usually experiences issues with headbands.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I just bought the lucid sound ls35x and the Xbox wireless connection is the worst and I’m returning them. I am on the look out for a usb dongle wireless headset for my series x in Canada and the steel series 7x don’t seem to be available. If you have a second are there any other headsets you can think of that use usb instead of the Xbox wireless connection?
@@jamiehicks8971 I haven't heard of the Lucid LS35x. I'm not a fan of Steelseries headsets at all. Think they sound mediocre for the price. I've tried the Logitech G535 but wasn't super impressed with that one. It's solid all around but nothing really wowed me. I wasn't impressed with the Razer Blackshark V2 either. It's solid and I think most will enjoy the sound of that over the Logitech. I like the HyperX Cloud Flight best for sound. But comfort and microphone is meh. Or in your case the Xbox version of it. If you can afford it the Astro A50 is excellent. But has some QA issues so getting a protection plan with that one is recommended. With the Astro's A50 being hard to beat I usually don't try other wireless headsets. But know that cost is often unreasonable for most people. I've also moved to more wired "audiophile" headphones as I find I enjoy them more all around. As I have a dedicated microphone that I use for when I need to chat. So, unfortunately, I really don't have any good recommendations for you.
I don’t know if it’s just me having this problem but the game and voice features aren’t working. Is that going to work in the future with an update or something?
Yeah, unfortunately headset mics are very hit and miss for a lot of people. Sometimes it comes down to the timbre of your voice. Also, I'd recommend looking up ways to make sure you have the mic in the ideal position along with speaking in a normal voice and not fluctuating how loud you are.
You'd have to do it through software or console settings. As I don't think there is a way to raise the volume of the mic on the headset itself or through saved settings to the headset.
@@M0NEYYT It's activation of a warranty. It stands for Return merchandise authorization. It's where you reach out to the company (in this case Astro) and report that the MixAmp doesn't switch to PC mode and they will provide you with troubleshooting. If that troubleshooting doesn't resolve the issue then they will send you a new product assuming you are still within warranty.
I found sound quality, especially, when comparing it directly to my PS5 was very similar. When it comes to the other features the A50's are a lot better. As for the Sennheiser 58X I don't think that is a super fair comparison. But I'd agree the Sennheiser's are going to sound a lot better because you are entering audiophile territory compared to gaming.
@@ThomasMuehler With my xbox series x the A50s get louder, sound clearer, and has cleaner bass. And as far as the 58Xs not being a fair comparison. Hell yes it is. They cost $150 plus $50 for an antlion moc mic. So for $200 you get better sound quality, and mic quality than the A50s for less. So now there is 3 different prices and the one in the middle is by far the best just comes down to how badly you need wireless which is worth the extra to some people.
@@kirkkarnage6344 Fair enough. Usually the USB protocol for Xbox is better than Playstation's. I don't think the "update" they did for the A50's on Playstation was very good. The way that a lot of people classify headphones is wired or wireless. As wireless still can't hold up to wired in the sense of compression or lack there of. Also, there is a very different tuning that happens on the driver side when it comes to gaming or audiophile headphones. Which again people usually classify as two different classes. Last, Antlion mod mic will work, but is a more complicated procedure that most average users aren't going to entertain. Much less sign up for Drop site and go through the process. I can't go to a store and buy the Sennheiser's or Mod Mic. With that said, can you compare them. Totally. Is it a fair comparison, arguable. I totally used to be in your camp before I tested out a bunch of headphones and headsets and researched and got deeper into the rabbit hole. I don't know what is the correct answer. Do I agree and recommend getting audiophile gaming headphones for gaming. 100% I do. Every time. Do most people ever listen to my recommendation especially when they are looking specifically for gaming headphone. No. Would the average layman listen to the A20's and then the A50's and say for $180 less that they are close enough in sound quality. Absolutely. Hence my recommendation.
@@ThomasMuehler tahts a good vibe to have. Think I might be taking back my A50 for A20 because of you. You right there is not that much in it on the series x as you lose all the eq fictionality on the a50 compared to the a20
@@Stevo19801 I know that Astro is selling an HDMI adapter (www.astrogaming.com/en-us/products/accessories/cable-adapters/hdmi-adapter-for-playstation-5.943-000449.html) that should also work for Xbox. That way you can get the optical port to work (which is where all the magic is) and get all the settings like you had on previous consoles. You can also plug it into the TV if you have an optical port there and works the same. With that I noticed that the A50 sound was a lot better than the A20. But if you are going off USB then I found them to be comparable. If you go down this route of getting the Astro A20 I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
@@ThomasMuehler the problem with the hdmi audio extractor is I lose 120hz variable refresh rate to my monitor. I have the a20 and as you say with the a50 over usb on the Xbox the sound is comparable. Will be taking the a50’s back and sticking with the a20 until new a50 come out that are built for usb audio. As you say the magic with the a50 is the eq settings, you lose these currently over connecting via usb, hopefully they will fix this in the next revision
@@Stevo19801 So, I thought the same thing and perhaps I'm wrong here. But it supports 4k60 and the Xbox can't do 4k120 but can do 1080p at 120 Hz. Which the HDMI Audio Extractor can also do (along with 1440p120. So, if you look critically at what is available on the Xbox and that HDMI device they should line up. Even though it doesn't have HDMI 2.1 but has HDMI 2.0b. I'm glad you are finding the same things I was regarding sound via USB. But I agree. I hope they fix it on the next revision as well. Since consoles don't support optical ports anymore which is stupid.
