appreciate the help. as a streamer this saved me lol. i got the atro adapter and my audio was funky but the information and breakdown in this video fixed audio for me ! thanks a lot. i hit you with a like and a sub. much love
Yes, I made another video showing that setup It's kind of hit and miss though. Some tv's need extra setup. They either down sample the sound to stereo only, or they don't even have the optical out turned on In my other video I walk everyone through what to look for. Thanks for stopping by!
@GT Canada thank you so much for doing this video and going into depth I was wondering why when I turn my game and voice dial to game to block out in game chat why it wasn’t working I wouldn’t get any sound at all and I’m playing Call of duty and the audio just wasn’t right well it’s right now thanks to you please keep making your informative videos by the way your the only person to gig into details about the set up your AWESOME GT Canada 🤟🏽
@@GearsAndTech they are tho you loose the surround sound with the ps5 Astro a40 even with the hdmi unfortunately they Astro are not good for ps5 since they don’t have the built in optical my artic 5 were much better thinking of getting the artic 7 that’s made for ps5
@@Xerxes_TV That's not true. You can run an optical extractor, or hook your optical to your TV and get full surround sound still. Arctis 7 for PS5 is simply giving you 3D sound. You can get the SAME 3D sound from your astros. I actually have a video coming out in the next week or so that goes over all this. The only wireless option that doesn't use Optical cable will give you 3D sound or Stereo sound and thats all. 3D sound is good on first party games, but its horrible on 3rd party games. They just dont take the time to optimize it.
But the adapter is not HDMI 2.1. While your PS5 and cables and TV are. So despite all your machines capable of 4K resolution at 120 frames per second your bottle necking everything into a cheap adapter that limits you to either 4K at 60fps or 1080p 120 FPS. That’s like sleeping on the tile floor of a five star hotel that you arrived at in a limo. The alternative is to forgo the adapter, and use the optical out of the TV. Which might degrade the audio sound, but that’s the Better evil of losing visual fidelity.
you don't need the adapter! i've got the same setup and run my ps5 and home theater through the optical out of my sony xh90 tv! it works fine with full experience.
You're right! It was a bit of a progression for me. I did eventually end up hooking mine up the same way ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VQaSeO8OHWA.html
This really depends on your TV. Many TV's do not do passthrough of the dolby audio. So the optical signal from the TV could end up being stereo only. if that happens you wont be getting the true experience.
Yes this is the route that I'm going to do. This eliminates the need for the adapter. And also I should note my TV has Dolby atmos so I'll get the full experience.
Tried this by itself and it sounded great but then I updated my mix amp and it’s so much better now. Wish Astro would have included this in the their adapter box they are selling instead of just the installation instructions
Probably updating it changed the default sound profile on your mixamp. If you try pushing the sound profile button you have 4 settings pre-loaded. Try them out, you may like another one better.
Ok before for me it would play game audio thru tv and headphone, but now it doesn’t, how can I make it do that again. I tried every option but won’t get it to that setting?
first of all, really unnessarry using the mixamps dolby processing on games with superior 3d audio.. but if you insist on using the mix amp, you should know that if choose lpcm, the hdmi audio extractor will have to downmix (if the ps5 not already sending stereo) it to stereo before sending through optical, so its not sending dolby 5.1 surround signal... choose bitstram dolby..
thanks for the heads up. Ill give it a try in that mode to see if it sounds any different. I have the HDMI extractor set to pass through. So it shouldn't be trying to upmix or downmix anything.
@@GearsAndTech also regarding the audio output device (im unfamiliar on how the ps5 handles this setting) but shouldn't the setting be set to the hdmi instead of usb?
Good call out. That setting seems to change nothing. I can put it on hdmi or USB and the result is the same It defaults to that setting when you power up the astro mixamp. It asks when you turn it on who is using it, then sets that profile. So I woudk recomend setting it the way I show in the video Also, tested the pcm vs bitstream Dolby. No appreciable difference. Both modes play true surround sound as expected. It's possible if the hdmi extractor was set to dd5.1 or 2 channel it would cause lag or delays, but the astro can handle either sound format. Just doesn't do dts Thanks for stopping by.
hey, so I do not have the optical connector but I can plug the optical cable from my mixamp straight into my TV. Will I still be getting the 'full experience'?
I have everything plugged in correctly, but when my output device is set to the astro headset I cannot change my dmi device type. Do you know why that is?
question: Why does my mixer only work when the Audio Output in my PS5 is set to HDMI Device (AV amplifier). My Mic input device is set to USB Headset (Astro MixAmp Pro)?
That's teh proper setup. You want audio to be sent out through hdmi as a surround sound av amplifier And the chat to be sent over USB Then the mixer brings it all together.
@@GearsAndTech Yeah linear PCM 2.0 can pass through optical, but Dolby digital is compressed and so is DTS which is why it’s able to pass through optical with 5.1, PCM is uncompressed and I think at 5.1 it’s too much information so that’s why it has to be done through hdmi just like pcm 7.1.
Do you have the mixamo connected to a pc as well? Aux cable in the back.. that can cause it if its connected and pc is not on or if just the cable is connected but other side is not..
I needed up just plugging the thing into my controller and using 3D audio and I thought it sounded just as good if not better than running the optical through my lg c9 and setting up the Dolby like that. Maybe I’m doing something wrong I wish Astro would do an official video clarifying this 3D audio crap and the surround sound difference and setups. Biggest problem with the extractor is I lose 120 FPS and more games than I thought already offer it (black ops, borderlands, nioh 2, rainbow six, etc..)
Yes, currently there is a trade-off. You can have 120hz and no Dolby (stuck with 3D audio at best) Or get your full dolby as youre used to, but you can only get 60hz @4k
Hi, thank you for the video! Why can't you abilitate the 3d audio with your settings? Setting the "output to headphone" as "all audio", it can be activated and the sound works really better. What do you think about it?
3d audio just isn't as good Plus, not all games support it. So you'll get worse sound when it does support 3d audio, and stereo sound for anything that doesn't support it VS Setup the extractor and get full Dolby surround on everything I'll take the second option every time. I prefer Dolby over pulse in its current form.
I have ps4 slim but I cant get full 3d surrond sound. I have the exact same extractor as you. No clue what I'm doing new to the headset any help? (You earned a new subscription btw) edit: I have the hyper cloud pros and they are more 3d than my a50s gen 3. So I feel like I messed up my Astros or something especially since they cost 300 dollars
Thanks for the support The settings are actually exactly the same as ps4 slim. I'll maybe throw a video together for that too. But, just find the menu and set it up the same and it should work. If you unplug the optical cable and the system sound stays working then it's not setup right
Okay small question the optical cable. You plug it into the base station then to the adapters, but when you plug it into the base station does it go to the input or output?
I took the astro base setting and pumped up the treble a bit more and kept the mids where they were and pushed the bass slightly down. Then saved that as my default sound. Thanks for the love. It's always good to hear when someone appreciates what we do here
That's right. The 3d audio setting is greyed out when you use hdmi audio. I would rather have Dolby surround sound anyway. 3d audio is using stereo sound to make a simulated surround sound. It can be good, but the games are encoded with true surround sound which the astro can output natively. So it's the best option to select. For people using regular headphones the 3d audio is good. Astro is best!
Great question i was wondering what's the big deal about 3d audio i had 7.1 surround on my turtle beach which was pin point on foot step location. So again what's the big deal about 3d audio?
It's Sony marketing and hype. It may catch in like Blu-ray, or it may die out like minidisc. Sony always has a 'new' format they try to push out. If they get a lock on the market it means more revenue streams for them. It worked really well for them last time they coupled it with a console, so now they will try with this. I don't see it catching on
Great video. Any idea why I cant play audio through my tv? Before all i had to do was mute my mic and turn the volume down on the mixamp, while turning the volume up on my speakers. Now its completely muted and I havent changed anything
Hey great video this makes a lot of sense. I have turtle beach stealth 700 gen 2 headphones. Can I get this same result if I purchase the mix amp and adapter? I have an optic cable laying around…
Turns out I’m dealing with this in 2024. I have my Astro Mixamp Pro TR, Astro adapter, Elgato HD60X and PS5 for streaming. My headphone audio sound god awful. I have all the settings the same as yours BUT I’m using the Sony pulse headphones connected to the Mixamp through a TRR audio jack. Does that make a difference? Or should I buy the A40 headset? I tried fiddling with the Astro Command Center eq settings but nothing. My sound is no better than some cheap $5 string earphones. 😩
Hey, i still have a question tho, maybe i misunderstood something, at 4:01 you say that to get the full experience you need to get the audio extractor but why ? If you just plug the optical cable to your tv isn't it supposed to do the same ? That's how it worked for me on PS4 pro
Yes, that's true. I made the tv optical video last. Really you just need to get optical sound into your mixamp for the full experience. One way or another
Would’ve been a lot more helpful if he showed us how the wires fed into the device like I have no idea where the other end of the optical cable goes into besides the adapted
In the official astro video for setting up on the ps5 they say you should enable dolby in the ps5 settings not linear pcm what are your thoughts on that?
Why does the HDMI splitter on Amazon say " 1. Not compatible with Netflix and RU-vid video websites." ? Other models say doesn't support Astro headsets and may need to be turned down to 1080p. The info on Amazon is confusing me.
This is ridiculous... The "full experience" is now 3D audio... NOT Dolby 5.1... Why limit yourself to an antiquated surround sound format (designed for cinema not gaming) when you can have the new 3D audio? Wouldn't full 3D surround sound be the "full experience" compared to limiting yourself to 5.1 virtual speakers? ANY headset will work with the new 3D audio if you plug it into the PS5 controller.
Thanks for stopping by Sony is notorious for putting out 'groundbreaking' new tech. Some are hits (bluray) some are misses (mini disc, beta max). It makes sense they would put some groundbreaking new form factor in the ps5 since that stratagy worked for bluray on the ps3. But, that doesn't mean 3d audio is superior. Just that it's new Right now it's not better than Dolby. It can be. And that's why it's only on a system that they have full control to update and tweak with. You won't see anything else supporting 3d audio any time soon. They need to experiment on all us first. But right now Dolby is better and is more full. Those that have done side by side test agree
Nice! Now Dolby works right! But i prefer stereo for cod. In stereo i can here the steppings better. Can you confirm this? How looks your sound settings?
I used to prefer stereo better, but I find the volume and intensity is hard to distinguish. I was always paranoid someone was practically beside me when really he was a long way away Switching to Dolby solved that problem. People near by sound nearby. People far away are actually far away
Hey boss so my issue is that i had it working for a year but now my headset goes silent if i put it on uotput to voice chat but it does play sound on all audio any idea how to fix?
Hey very good video and well explained all through i have other extractor my question ist when i live it to pass through should i have a surround sound When on console and astro ist dolby on? I have a 2019 version of astro 40
In my other video I show you exactly how to set it all up. If you can find an hdmi extractor that is hdmi 2.1 it will not affect the signal. Currently the inexpensive ones only go up to 2.0, so that will limit your 4k signal down to that standard.
If you can find one that is actually 2.1 that is great. Be careful. Some claim to be 2.1 or even 2.0 but are not Check the specs as well. If it's 2.1 it should do 4k@120hz
Boa tarde meu caro! Bacana demais? Espero que sim! Teria como me ajudar a obter o douby atmos no ps5 usando o astro a40 mixamp?
What will happens when on hdmi extractor i leave it to pass and i do not change the options on ps5 like 5.1 channel instead i leave it to 2 channel and just enable it on mixamp do i get then surround sound ?
I did everything exact same i have brand new ps5 astro a40 tr astro optical so when i switch it from all audio to chat only then i wont hear anything in the game
Thanks to your video I got everything working but what does the base station led do, it's the headset one. When it's on does it mean that surrond sound is on or something
Yes, the button in the right that looks like headphones is the surround sound setting It's crazy when it's working how open the sound is. You can really pinpoint exact directions easily
I followed Astros entire setup but when i go to my system sound settings the HDMI Device type is greyed out so im not able to choose AV Amplifier.. any help? is there some new update?
You will not get 3D audio at all in this setup. I believe that is a good thing. My tests of 3D audio were that Dolby is currently better. Sounds better, and is more 'true'.
I bought the Astros recently with the adapter I’ve plugged everything in correctly but I can’t hear any audio through the left earphone of the headset am I doing something wrong I’m not sure. They are very new 2 weeks old
Hi, I set up my Astro A50 like this and my side buttons don’t work for mixing voice chat and in-game volumes. Voice chat quality is really bad and I can barely hear people speaking. The side buttons just turn all volume up or down instead of just voice or just in-game volume. Any fixes?
Thank you for this video, I do have a question I just got my PS5 and I will be picking up a 1440p 165Hz monitor, if I connect my PS5 using this or any other HMDI extractor will I still get a 120Hz gaming experience? thank you in advance.
It depends a lot on the extractor. Most likely you will not. You would have to look at using only usb like my video that dropped today. Or, check back tomorrow afternoon, I'll have an even newer video with one other top secret method to make it all work.
I’ll try using a Tendak Converter (found it on Amazon) and drop my monitor resolution from 2k to 1080 and look sooo bad I returned back and buy the Astro Device I hope it’s work
Check the video I released today. Not sure if monitors have optical line out. If it does then the setup I show in that video would be your best option.
hey i followed your settings but when im in a party chat people cant hear me they hear my audio from my game is there anyway i can fix that so they can hear me?
Did u have the ps4 with optical out before? If so then I recomend u get the extractor. If you had a slim and didn't use the extractor you wouldn't notice any difference setup the same as before
@@GearsAndTech I bought the hdmi to hdmi + audio extractor and once I have set everything up I am now receiving amazing surround sound. However, it has lowered my 4K monitor resolution to 1080p even though it claims to support ‘4K x2K 3D’ on the device.
I was totally shocked to find that too! In fairness it is an old standard that hdmi solves. So it's understandable. Just sucks that they don't unlock multi channel audio over USB if they won't have the optical signal. Good news is it has 3 USB port and 1 USB c port
For some reason Sony has disabled the feature on usb headsets except for theirs and the dual sense controller. It will show that it's on in the settings, but it doesn't actually do anything.
Very nice, thank you, but i have one problem ! When i choose dolby instead of linear i hear a very loud „cracking“ noice. Does someone know how to fix this?? Thank you !!!
When you unplug the optical cord does it go away? If so, then your cord is broken, or the settings are wrong If it doesn't go away then your USB has issues
in the settings you can turn the volume up on the PS5 to max. that helps get you a little more sound out of it. Also, make sure you dont have the chat mix dial turned to the right really far.
it will be going through your tv as well. You just need to turn the TV volume down If youre not getting any volume through your Headphones though try our troubleshooting guide. itll give you some things to check out in order.
@GT Canada - I have set this up on the Gen 4 mixamp and A40's. But I constantly get buzzing come into the headset and also when I speak people in the PS party can hear horrible buzzing and makes it unplayable. Whenever I touch any metal connection with the PS5 the buzzing stops. I have bough a noise reducer but it mutes the Astro's/ Any idea how I can stop the buzzing
@@GearsAndTech - I have tried multiple USB's it feels like it a PS5 grounding issue. My setup is - PS5 - power in from 4 socket extension lead - HDMI to the audio extractor - audio extractor to HDMI tv and opitcal out to Mixamp. USB into Mixamp from PS5 and USBc into Controller. All cables are new and tried multiple cables... Wondering if ferrite chokes might work?
It's tough to say. You shouldn't need to add any filters or chokes. If you do, then something is wrong Have you tried that mixamp on ps4? Possibly try the USB and moxamp on a pc and see if you get the same issue. That will tell you if the mixamp is ok or not (hopefully)
