I followed your instructions and it’s back and running! Because of people like you who make repair videos, we can prevent waste and take a minuscule step to save our environment! Thank you so much!
I just fixed mine by replacing the same capacitor you did! Mine was a Coca Cola themed one but was just a re-skin as it was the same components. I did not use the same type of capacitor, I only had 10 uF 50v Aluminum electrolytic capacitor. My soldering skills are terrible, so i ran wires from the board to the capacitor and back to the boards. After shocking myself by holding both ends of the PSU, and putting everything back together, it worked perfectly! Long story but thank you soooooo much for this video.
Thanks for the video - just resurrected my daughter's fridge following your steps. I love being able to fix things without just throwing it away and buying a new one. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Definitely was what I needed to guide me in this repair!!
Hi, thank you for your excellent fault-finding video. I had the same issue and replaced the 10 uF capacitor with a new high-temp replacement (Würth WCAP-HTAH). My green light kept blinking intermittently, though, so I also checked the other capacitors. The AC side capacitor was all right, but the DC side 2x 1 mF caps were faulty! So I replaced the two green 1000 uF 25V caps with the closest replacements that I had in storage, two 680 uF 25V ones. After replacing these, my Astro works again. As a side note, the toggle switch is really cheap chinese ..... and sometimes does not conduct in the on positions. Be careful with it and wiggle it a bit to make contact, check the LEDs for proper contact.
Same issue for me too. Replaced the same cap and its working again. Thanks for the video and tip about the smallest capacitor being the most likely culprit! I bought a variety set of caps on Amazon and Im sure they'll come in handy for future repairs/projects.
My fan works but my light is blinkn. I've tried diff ac cords same thang. What cud be my issue. Mine is a fridgidaire brand, that was on sale for $19 bucks. Cost $70 now. Don't wana buy a new 1 or pay outrageous fee 2 hv repaired. Help
Thanks buddy! This is the most simply yet thoroughly explained "How to" video ever. None of that "smash the survive button, or turn on your fornication" nonsense. AND Unlike my comment, the Video isn't all drawn out.
Awesome... going to fix my granddaughters fridge.. has the same issue. I used to cap kit arcade monitors.. so I'll be digging out my equipment. Thanks.. great video....
Fantastic video. Genuine comment, great you were able to show some how to fix it. For the average Jane such as myself it’s trash. $20 fridge and it would cost me more to pay someone to fix than buy new. I watched your video through so you get the traction you deserve. But, sad disposable world we live in. I’d of paid more to last 5 years and pay someone to fix than waste my time driving to the store to buy another that’ll last a year…
Mine showed similar symptoms so I replaced the cap with the size recommended in the video. Unfortunately, the fix did not work for me--but thank you for making this video as it finally pushed me to get a soldering iron. Anyway, the large cap on the board had ~75v on it before I discharged it. The fridge had not been plugged in for at least three weeks or so & I'm not sure if that 75v value is high or low given those circumstances. After swapping the cap did not fix things, I checked around to see if there were any other clues. For whatever reason, the load size of the transformer does not output the 12v needed to run the mini fridge. I thought I might try rigging up molex power off a computer PSU to see if the fridge functions normally with 12v. I thought this might work since the 12v power connection option (for a car) goes directly to the daughterboard where the cold/hot switch attaches while the 120v goes to the main board to step down to 12v. If this works, my guess is somehow the transformer failed---which (I think) is unlikely but certainly not impossible since I've encountered failed doorbell & thermostat transformers a few times before. In any event, I've seen multiple boards on Amazon that output 12v from a 120v source. The spec sheet on this fridge is about 3.5A@12v iirc so I might just replace the entire board with a 6A max version for ~$10 or I might just give up & replace the darn thing entirely. But hey, at least I finally got a soldering iron lol
This is really helpful. I have this little pink one my older sister gave me before she moved away: and I don’t wanna throw it out cause it means a lot to me but I’d also like it for to actually work🥲. I’m thinking of bringing it to someone to repair it; any idea how much it typically costs to repair this sort of thing? Sorry if this is dumb question; thank you for taking the time to read and make your videos♥️
Thanks Joe! Same issue on my Cooluli, and with your help fixed it up in 15 minutes! I even had the part on-hand (a first for me!). By the way, how do you like your component tester? Would you recommend? If so, where'd you pick it up?). Thanks again!
Ah. Nice fix for you as well. Good job!!!! The capacitor tester is something you can buy on eBay for 30$ . I wouldn't bother I'f your not gonna work on these again tho. I repair electronics every day so it's very Handy to have .. Thank you for watching my video and glad I could help ....
Similar success story here. I also like the MTester that you show... Found it to be quite useful on occasion. You don't show the in-circuit test of the fault capacitor, though. Was your Capacitor Wizard able to spot it in curcuit? I tried the MTester and it seemed confused... it saw a diode with about 7.5uF capacitance.
Hi Steven the reason for not showing the faulty capacitor with my capacitor wizard is...as I was testing the bigger cap prior to the faulty one, the caps were still charged and I shorted my capacitor wizard, it shorted a resistor....so I had to use other meaning of testing the caps....a error on my part.... but it was a easy fix and I actually made a video repairing the wizard...
I have a red Igloo labeled mini thermo “fridge.” Mine had a very faint high pitched whine from the power board. The fan wasn’t turning either. 2 output capacitors were deformed on the power board (1000uF 25V). I replaced them with quality Nichicon capacitors. I got the fan to spin, but the fan was horribly noisy, and sounded like it had bearing play. It would quiet some, and randomly get noisy over any tap on the fridge. I decided not to connect the fridge to avoid damaging my 2 new Nichicon capacitors. My guess is the original capacitors nuked themselves trying to drive the fan. The fan also needs to go. Hopefully I can yank out a fan with the same values from from the local neighborhood alley junk piles, when the time comes.
I have a Kell K4 and the fan doesn't spin, the light doesn't blink but it's very dim and it makes a bit of a high pitched but quiet squeak or whistle. I do not have any tools except a soldering iron, how might I test for this. Perhaps I can just replace the similar capacitor, how likely might it be the same issue. It has one capacitor on the board that is just like the one you replaced here.
Same issues with my mini fridge, and its one of them Call of dudty warzone ones, distributed by Orbit Inovations LLC, so it has one slight difference and that is that mine only has one electrical, 2 prong, port, 120V AC; would everything i saw in your video still apply to mine?
I've fixed so many appliances and electronics by replacing capacitors. Sometimes just replacing the swollen ones without any other testing. Amazes me that the supply chain can't make a durable capacitor.
I had the same issue. I didn't suspect the 10uF because the two 1000uF caps were bulged. I took them out of the circuit and they were completely open. I replaced those, but it still didn't work. The 10uF was also bad.
hi i have a frigidaire efmis129 in pink that looks exactly like yours in the back, and my problem is i also have the green blinking light but my fan doesn’t turn on at all or make any sort of movement and there is a slight beeping/ringing noise would the problem be with the capacitors as well or do i have to replace the entire power supply? please let me know i’m running out of ideas and i also know nothing about electrical parts i would appreciate any help and thanks for the helpful video!
I’m releasing another video about same issues…same finding… one capacitor is the issue, it’s the smallest capacitor on that board… replace it and your fridge will work again.
Hi....If i remember correctly, it was a 10uf capacitor that was open..it was the smallest cap on that circuit board if i recall. In order to do small repair such as this mini fridge, you would need to invest in a soldering kit ( solder- resoldering pump, some lead and a multimeter that is capable of measuring in ohms... usually the list I send you could run you about 50$ . It's a lot of fun repairing your broken electronics and rewarding.... If not, you can always bring it to your local repair shop....or send it to me I will repair this for you at no charge, i don't mine helping you. You'd have to pay shipping of course and that can run you some money also depending where you are .. I know it's pennies to fix....your best option is to buy a soldering kit...and start having fun...
this also applies to the Xbox mini fridge, it has the EXACT same PCB. and i just replaced it and works. my question is, is that PCB supposed to get burning skin touching hot?
Not that hot usually...if you have a multimeter check some components on that power supply....it does get hot but usually the heatsink helps a great deal in dispersing the heat...check the transistors
oui, vous pouvez bien faire une recherche sur ESR des condensateurs et il y en a plein d'info. moi j'utulise une liste comme celle la... google recherche "ESR chart" eng- yes, you can search capacitor ESR chart on google and their is alot of pdf you can download and print for you shop for future references..
Any idea where to get that three-position switch? Mine must have melted together internally and it stuck to cooling and the fridge does not work. I either need that replacement switch, or a new board that the switch is connected to. Thanks
I have a Tacklife mini fridge that looks very similar especially the outside. I had for around 6 months and it stopped working last weekend. But the light is blinking slowly. I opened it and the inside looks very different. I dont even see a capacitor. There is one small all black cylinder that says "+" "Hy" "RJ" "2W10"
Hi, I'm afraid this isn't really a repair for regular home DIYers unless you have experience using soldering irons and building circuit boards. You need to use a soldering iron to heat up the legs of the capacitor you want to remove. This will melt the solder, and then you can pull the capacitor out of the circuit board. In your case, I don't suggest you do this on your own.
Electrolytic capacitors dry up, the dielectric changes and then the capacitor loses capacitance and has increased serial resistance. It is unavoidable but you can mitigate this by putting in quality components (Panasonic, Sanyo or Würth). Since the Astro builders saved on expensive components, you get a relatively short lifespan.
it seem like alot of PPL having the same issue, I'd say its a design in the circuitry, the faulty cap is actually a 10uf at 50V....I know the whole circuit board is running hot and drying up the cap prematurelly.
Hey there,I have an issue with my mini fridge, it's almost a similar model to that one,it gets really cold inside but instead of doing a small ice buildup like the others it just leaks water,do you think it's normal or there's a small issue?
I just checked mine, and all I could find was that the heat sink paste was dry and gone. So I put some new paste, and the fan was able to turn on. ...But not the green light, even though I have it in cool mode.
I have the same issue with my mini fridge what are the things that you used to take out the battery and put in a new one call. I need to buy them and put in a new battery
Hi I have the same mini fridge but in pink and it has the same problem, I was wondering if I could ship it to you for you to fix it? But how would that work? Please let me know 🙏🏼
Hi I have the same fridge it's my daughter's. It was a gift would like to fix this one rather than buy a new one. Same symptoms would I be able to ship it to you if so how much would you charge? Tia
I would say you have a bad connection...loose wire or cold solder around your connection. Check it out closely...should be a easy fix Ps safety first...unplug from wall
Can you please tell the output current of this pcb as my case pcb is burned out and I want to purchase new pcb but I don't know the the exact volt and current rating of this pcb
I want to fix a similar issue on my mini fridge, but I don’t have any of these tools/knowledge. Would an appliance repair tech look at me like a crazy person if I brought it in?
I have the same one doing the same thing after a power outage I just turn it off and unplug it for a bit and turn it back on and it works again lol 😂 I don’t got time to open shit up lol haha will just buy a new machine when this one craps out lol
Hi ...i don't have that mini fridge anymore buddy...i fix then it's back to customer. So i don't remember the capacitor value... It's the smallest on that power supply board...I'm sure i have mentioned the value in my video...watch it 😁
I wanna cry so bad! I only bought mine (it’s the Icon one) in May and now it’s literally not even coming on…. And I JUST threw away the box it came in so I can’t even find a manufacturer number to call And I just know I’m gonna tear it up if I even try this! 😭
Could somebody please Tell me what to do because watching the whole video I don’t know what I should be doing. because I know he’s testing things so I just wanna know what do I need to buy and what to do
Hi....the capacitor that was open was a 10uf 50v...and I buy my capacitors at digikey But before you order parts, make sure that is the capacitor your unit needs....just because mine was that particular capacitor, doesn't mean it's the same in every units....you'll need a multimeter and a ESR meter to be absolutely sure it's the right capacitor your replacing... And be aware of high voltage ⚡ Make sure your not plugged in and discharge your capacitors before venturing inside these mini fridge....
Id like to see some mods to make the cooling greater. I got a collectable mini fridge that I'd like to turn into a beast. With what it comes with, it's very under powered at only 9v and has enough room for a 12 pack of canned soda.
Just go on there site and create a account... Then i just type in the capacitor value i need and it will appear on the bottom all the capacitors you can imagine.... What i did is i made a list of all the Caps i wanted in stock and no shipping fees over 100$
But if you just gonna fix a few things around the house...you can get a capacitor kit from Amazon or eBay...cost off under 20$. It has over 24 kind values and voltages...very useful for your home repair.
Your power supply has failed. Remove the power supply and chunk it in the garbage Buy a 50 watt 12 volt power supply and install in its place. Model Meanwell RS-50-12.
leblancmedicjo@gmail.com Send me a message on my email and I will gave you address to ship.. I don't want any money to repair it....I will just do a video and post it.
