One great thing about the tractor and trailer is that when packaged it can fit in your backback. This allows you to easily take one with you when traveling to another planet.
Or you can take resources to another planet and print M/L rover right avay. Once they are unlocked, there's no much help from tractor. Rovers can handle larger stuff and also can be used as trailers and connected into train.
Typically, I use the Buggy to drop Beacons to mark POIs, or navigation way-points. It's fast, thrifty on energy, and can go damn near anywhere. Post 1.0, I'll add popping research seeds along the way to the mix...
Interesting. I'm on my first real playthrough (poked my head in the game a couple times during EA), and didn't see much point in anything besides the tractor-trailer until I could get the large rover. I haven't done any of the "story" content yet, though.
I find with the buggy that if you put a small solar and a small battery on it it can run day and night. the battery stretches the run time out enough to run through the night. down side is if you're mining with an upgrade mod you can easily suck the thing dry and then you're stuck until morning.
Might also be useful to note, the medium and large rover have connectors to attach directly to your base buildings, if you need a quick charge, or in my case, need that extra space to power on a gateway chamber. Great vid by the way.
You forget to mention you just can create a mobile Base with up to 3 trailers chained together it works with every Vehicle except the Buggy. However the Large Rover without the trailer has almost the same maximum capacity because you cant use the backspaces anymore and it iseasier to drive around. 2 Large Storage with 4 smaller ones on top of it and a Big Shreeder on the back is all i need.
It is actually what I did to my large rover designed for nomadic use. 1 single seat, 1 medium power source, 2 large storage, 4 medium storage, 1 large shredder. A buggy is great early in Sylva once at least 1 aluminum and a small power source is obtained, good to obtain batteries and other small items on foot, but a tractor and trailer is good for item scavenging, especially finding mid-size power sources and metals normally found in other planets. I got a bit of iron and titanium especially early, so I only visited just the desert planet for tungsten and copper to get hydrazine thruster and hydrazine unexpectedly early.
@@Aereto That's a good point running around in the buggy to grab small salvage items. I don't know if I just got lucky, but I found a lot of power and batteries pretty close to spawn, so haven't bothered with anything but the tractor-trailer until I got the trade platform last night and could build the big rover. Everything is so abundant, I haven't seen anything I needed to beacon, either.
I like the tractor no trailer, medium silo on the front. Plenty of storage and it looks funny. No jack knives, no bs, just the occasion drive into crevices!
He's got bass cranked up. Makes him sound kind of robotic to me. Rewatch the beginning of the video where he's speaking directly to the camera and you can tell when the software is modifying his voice.
pro tip: attach a drill to the front, a Rtg to on the trailer and just nose dive into the ground to get to the centre of planets quickly. From surface to center in about 2 mins then package everything up and teleport out
Maybe a buggy would be good to keep at the base so when the inedible death occurs out in the wilderness, you will have a way to get back to your grave.
Funny you say that... Ron created a race a few years ago called "Wind to Win" where we only had small wind turbine and a small battery as power. Virtually infinite power but not quite. I remember a few of us got stalled waiting for wind - fun though!
Putting power on the front is good, but putting the power on a medium storage on the front is better. Gives you more space, and the power still works just the same.
You have 3 steps for it . Helium from Atrox Lythium from Vesonia then you can build the other components with the soil centrifuge ^^ and chemister lab. Basicly make 1 trip to vesonia and 1 trip to atrox with a small shuttle + Atmosphere condenser in oxygenator storage spot. get the med print med plat oxy in your backpack . re do on vesonia. then you good to craft nano on silva ^^ hopes it help you
the buggy is almost useless ,it's more complex to build of tractor and basically it haven't storage. I thin it's ok a more fast vehicle for early exploration but it should has at least one tier 2 slot to use in combo with medium storage to 8 tier 1 slot ...
Nice informative video. I have just returned to Astroneer after a long absence. I have noticed that I can no longer run Tethers off my vehicles. Is this a bug or is there a trick to it? Cheers
No bug, the mechanic has changed. You now need an oxygenator to supply O2 for the astroneer. You got one at the start of the game, and you can also unlock research to create them on the fly.
@@OneLastMidnight Thanks for the reply. I was aware that I needed the Oxgenarator for the space ship but it didn't occur to me that we now need them for the vehicles too. That's going to hog a fair bit of valuable space.
The medium rover is in such a crappy spot. If you can make it, you can also make the large one which is just flat out better and you'll not be putting any of those on shuttles any time soon anyway. It shouldn't be gated behind tungsten so you can make it on sylva and it's not like it'll replace the tractor that way since the tractor still covers the niche of being ultra compact, needing no seat, packing up into size 1 packets and requiring next to no energy.
Why is so difficult to drive them? With the drill working it became impossible to drive. Any suggestion on that? Or should we wait for further updates?
You power consumption is way wrong, I don't use organic for anything so I use small battery in front with either wind generator or solar and big truck I use big battery/ big solar and wind and never worry about running out of power
why there is limit of vehicle to carry tractor is good vehicle so i was thinking why can you build the large size tractor and can move about 7 large vehicle extra hardcore work
The tractor can pull 3 trailers at a time. And that front slot is a double so you can slap the 8 slot cargo thing on it. Edit: And, you forgot to mention the chemistry lab needed for the medium and large rovers are locked behind tungsten which isn't on the starting planet. I think the medium shuttle also needs stuff from it.
RoGuy try to make your way back up with ether tethers or oxygen filters, I don't have much experience with the drill as I haven't unlocked it and I'm just digging by the terrain tool
If you haven't made the RTG yet, you can slap some small batteries with small wind turbines / solar on a medium storage. Put that on the medium/large rover, and you will not run out of power every few seconds.
With the tractor you can stick a medium storage on the front, and stick power etc on it. Also, with both the Buggy and the Tractor, I've found that using a battery and a small solar/wind allowed for unlimited distance on Sylva. You can also have up to 3 trailers on the tractor. I like the RTG and Shredder Idea.
How does that work out? Seems like you're losing at least a medium port, and the option of using that end of the rover for a shredder or large storage.
No discussion on how you can link up multiple the medium and large rovers? Or was that just not a thing yet? Battery drain while driving remains the same, but now you have up to 4 times the capacity.
Incase no one has learned yet, you can package the large research items so they only take up 1 spot which is great for going out and filling your backpack and rover up.
Agreed. The tractor is so efficient for new bases and new planets. A small storage in front spans the 2 slot to 8, 2 for your favorite power (i like wind and generator to start), and 6 for extra supplies. And the trailers to pick up all the research orbs.
I’ve basically built a portable habitat using large rover, I got one oxygen filter, a RTG, a research lab and a large printer, the haul is long to get from point A to point B but it allows me to spend massive amounts of time away from the habitat before I have to return to drop off my resources
I like poping medium storage on the trailer segments to equal 8 slots for each trailer. Pop two batteries in the front and maybe a small wind and small solar.
Hey guys. I’m new to the game but I didn’t see this mentioned here unless I missed it: I got the tractor early and attached a medium wind turbine to the front connectors, hooked up 2 or 3 trailers with medium storages and somehow, even when I took in underground, the medium wind turbine kept it a full power. I rarely ran out of power because I guess the game still registers wind even in the caves? Found that out by accidentally driving off a cliff and falling really deep underground, thought I was screwed but the wind turbine kept spinning and I just built a ramp out... anyway, it was a HUGE help for resource gathering until I was able to unlock the later game items. I was able to drive around the entire planet(surface and caves) and it almost eliminated the need to do the tether shuffle( love that video midnight, hilarious). Hope that helps and sorry if I’m repeating another comment.
i think you are misleading in the fact that you can put small wind turbines and you dont need to worry about power on vehicles on the buggy, and or medium on the tractor, etc
Misleading? Shoot that dude! :) There is a race track Ronald build on the shared folder called "Wind for the Win", where you race with only a small battery and a small wind turbine. Keeping the vehicle powered it a challenge. The statement, "you don't need to worry about power" isn't true. Yes, you can go quite far, but if the wind is not blowing, no power. However... It you give in spurts, stopping and getting out to do something, yes you can maintain power, otherwise, nope.
My buddy and I just got to the 3rd world, Calidor, and we built the Rover last night. I've but a Large Storage on it with medium storages attached except for one connector set I've put a Medium Generator on it and piled plenty of Carbon on at least 1 one of Medium Storages. I've got a drill on the front and tow a trailer with another Medium Storage and power is a non-issue. I've drilled down pretty far without having to come back up to restock on Carbon but after seeing the RTG I REAALLY want to make one.
The tractor is my favorite thing. My reaction when I first built one years ago and today haven't changed much. I recently attached a medium rover to it and it runs great. Otherwise it makes me very happy to just drive around with resources on the trailer. "It ain't much but it's honest work."
I was just trying to check out the wench when I sent my large roaver spiralling out of control and flying toward space. Complete waste of resources, then a day later I found it randomly at the top of a mountain while exploring........ only to go near it and watch it again go flying off into oblivion. Dont want to sound silly but the wench goes on the vehicles right?
I really love tractor. It's easy to produce and storage(you can pack in a medium storage with trailers and battery even in a small shuttle), it's an almost free portable oxygenator , you can even improve the storage capacity a lot with more advance item such the medium storage silos. You can also use for recovery a bigger vehicles if you die(and attach to it). It's the first item i want to research and have in new planet, really better than use only tether
I've been thinking about setting up a mobile research station with a rover. I'm to the point that I can unlock and build either the med or large since I have the chem station. Has anyone tried something similar and if so which rover worked better? I'm assuming a single large rover would probably be easier.
Remember when it was just rover and truck? Or shuttle and spaceship? Good times Oh and looking at the comments you deserve more subs and views seriously. Your dedication is great.
I built a medium rover and I find it much more slower than the medium one you showed, even with a full battery, is there something to do to make it quicker ?
Hey guys, I'm fairly much interested in the game, as I'm looking for a nice co-op experience. Now I wonder: At what point does some form of challenge enter into the gameplay? I don't mean some super hard, unforgiving torment, but is there any way to actually fail?
Crane used to be more relevant before the drill mods for the terrain tool. There used to be one drill and it only worked with the crane. The crane could use an update in the future.
