Astrophotography taken with a fast F/2 Celestron RASA-8 telescope, ZWO ASI533MC pro cooled camera and ASIair Pro. These space photographs were shot by me in 2020 and 2021. Most photos were done using an Idaz NBZ nebula booster filter. The exposures range from one to ten hours. All of my astrophotographs were processed using PixInsight, Star Tools.

So I got my Rasa 1 year ago and also use EQ6-R pro and IDAS-NBZ (what a great filter at very reasonable cost compared to everything else). I have a lot of the same targets- Eastern, Veil, Western Veil, Leo triplet Soul Nebula, Elephant trunk, Jellyfish Nebula, Triangulum, Whirlpool, California, Cygnus wall, Wizard Nebula, Bubble Nebula. I love it. 2 suggestions if I may. 1) If you get an additional counterweight this will allow you to move them all up as high as possible on the counterweight shaft. The reduces the momentum arm and significantly increases guiding accuracy. With my Eq6-r pro using 2 weights I was around 0.5-0.6 RMS but now I am nearly always under 0.3. 2) You may already know this but a cable router will rid the diffraction spikes. After your first several images many seemd to be less or gone so you may already know this. I recently got an Octopi-astro to eliminate tilt form my RASA8 and a set of 3 nm HA,Sii,Oii filters for f/2 systems but weather has been horrible so far I ahve only been able to get 1 nioght of Ha and 1 night of Oiii, once I get a night of Sii I am going to process the Heart nebula. Using 183c, 183m and 294mm Pro. I looked at the 533 and the no amp glow was very appealing but the square sensor turned me off but you have done wonder s- keep up the good work and clear skies!

Thank you for the great third counterweight suggestion! I do have times where I get bad trailing at 5 minute subs. I'll try your idea next time since I recently got a third weight for my other OTA's on that mount. Some of those early images, are without the NBZ filter, when I first got the RASA, and had to wait for it to arrive. Also, I had to wait about 6 months in 2020 for then EQ6-R Pro to arrive, so I used my old Meade LX650 mount. The video was made to showcase what is possible with a RASA and the ASI533. Still though, star bloating is the worst part of all with a RASA at F/2.

It works great! I'm now using the three counterweights method from now on! I would have thought the extra weight would put more drag on the drive system, but shortening the arm length does wonder for tracking like you said. After all, its a lever arm, and longer means more wobble and vibration. So, again thanks James for the tip!

Also, you might be able to notice that some of the early pictures in my video of say the Horsehead, Helix or the Hidden Galaxy was before I got the IDAZ NBZ filter. I had to wait for one as they were on backorder, but was not going to wait to try out the new scope. The filter is great for sure, and I use it for everything. As far as diffraction spike go, I do have the cables curved quite well now.

The performance of the pics in this video is more than outstanding imo. James, can you confirm that all these images are taken by the Celestron 8" f2.0 RASA?
@BobCash
@BobCash 2 года назад
Yes, all the pictures in my video were taken with a RASA-8 from 2020-2021. Since then, I have even better results with new techniques I have learned with Pixinsight and post sharpening and denoising with Topaz software. At some point I hope to have a video of those photos too. Arizona monsoon storms and clouds have everything on hold lately.

Looks like that set up can handle a lot more than an 8” When is the 14” gonna replace it? Lol. I’m in Gilbert, this is awesome, I wish I had one.

Yes, I've seen up to a 12" scope on the Skywatcher EQ6r Pro mount. I know it can handle more weight. I've put a Meade 10" SCT tube on it with no problem. I might try something larger down the road. Right now, as you know the heat and monsoon has got everything on hold for a while.

Hi bob, all pictures are fabulous. I’m also planning to get rasa8. Are you using octopi interface for this setup?
@BobCash
@BobCash 2 года назад
Hi, I'm using a ZWO ASIair pro wifi computer at the scope. Everything connects the that.
@deepd4393

@@BobCash did you ever face tilt issue? I see on cloudynights people crying abt tilt issues with rasa 8 and using different adapters and interfaces like octopi?
@BobCash
@BobCash 2 года назад
@@deepd4393 No tilt never seemed to be an issue with my RASA-8. i did struggle with some collimation issues. It seems to be fairly good at the moment. Finding the best back focus with the RASA took a while. After experimenting with different amounts of spacers, it now seems, none works best with focus. I now just use a Starizona filter holder and camera strait on the scope with out any additional spacers. I also removed the glass window.

I just checked and sadly I see the prices have gone way up!. $2079 for the RASA-8 Telescope now, mine was $1750 in 2020.. The ZWO ASI533MC camera is $899. Skywatcher Eq6r Pro mount is $2025. The ZWO ASIair Wifi computer is $299. I bough some of these items far cheaper in 2020. The ZWO stuff is the same price, but the scope and mount are now about $300 more than I paid.
