Super-clean build. Love how you tied the stowage into the vehicle using the putty blankets.
@longlance67

Cheers mate, I found the putty platform the best way to get those tricky resin stowage sets

Excellent! I must congratulate you ,I’m a Shermaholic and you’re one of the few besides myself that drill out the drainage plugs on the splash guards ...a detail often missed by even the most advanced modeler
@alj644
@alj644 6 лет назад
i agree..a little detail which makes a "plus"..
@jerryvolpini7987
@jerryvolpini7987 6 лет назад
Good point! A minor detail and so easy to correct but often missed.
@longlance67
@longlance67 6 лет назад
thank you Kevin! I hope we can get more people into the Sherman and give it the love it deserves! Drilling out the drains is one of my favorite little details I love doing, it just gives our models that little extra element of detail without being too difficult to attempt, I've gotten my hands on some photo etch fuel and water labels for the engine deck that I will start adding to future Shermans
@longlance67
@longlance67 6 лет назад
and it is a great introduction self detail to get people into adding more to their M4s which is easy to do

very true and very rewarding to add

nice! Asuka are so fine..great build! this poor sherman..the suspension suffered ! the transmission cover was reinforced and they added a concrete protection ! the weight on the front of the sherman was incredible..

I love Asuka model Shermans they are such a joy for us Sherman fans! I would imagine that mechanically these Shermans operational lifespans were quite short

really nice work on that jumbo! i gotta say i quite like the beefy look of it with the extra armor. this vid is a great guide for all people interested in the kit and subject. it certainly has its pits you can fall into, but you showed what to do.
@longlance67
@longlance67 6 лет назад
Haha ya you certainly can go the rabit hole with these kits but even with tiny amount of extra work you can really get the next level out of these kits

I've been absent from scale model construction for about fifty years. Yes, I'm in my early seventies and retired. I know a lot of things have changed in that time. I would like to see a video, like yours, that informs and teaches me of the tools and supplies needed to build the models. Start the video with your work table. Then, use real-time to describe the tools and other supplies you use to build your models and use them. To me, this would be very helpful and informative. This might take a full video to do this, but it would be most helpful to me and others.
@longlance67
@longlance67 3 года назад
That is a great idea! I am currently moving my workshop at the moment so it might be a little while before I can get another video up, but when I get to the workbench I will film such a video

Great idea on the grab handle jig. Wish you were just a bit quicker with this video coming out...I built the Tamiya Easy 8 and lost all the kit handles to the carpet monster..made replacements with wire but freehand... could've done better..lol. Thanks for the idea!

haha I'm building the same Sherman with the same concrete kit. Well I picked up the short barrel. I had to fill places on the concrete where front plate meet the concrete. Awesome video my friend.

I had to fill a few spots too on the side of the concrete block meets the hull, but other that it went together well. I love the Jumbo's with 75mm guns their over-sized mantlets make them look so mean

Ready to see this done. I really enjoy your Shermans. On the 50 Cal subject Tamiya has stepped their game up. I just built the new Korean Sherman #35359. The 50 was so nice in the kit I bought loose sprue of it on eBay.
@longlance67
@longlance67 6 лет назад
thanks Neal! I am really happy you enjoy my Sherman builds, I know they are not as popular as German subjects out there, but it is good to know that you guys enjoy them and hopefully we will help get Allied Armor some love Also thanks for the heads up regarding the new Tamiya .50s now I have another excuse to get their new Korean Easy Eight ;)

@longlance67

this kit is a mid 2000's mold if I remember whereas Tamiya's is from the 80's I believe, both kits build up very nicely

@@longlance67 I just bought this kit. It's in the post as we speak... After taking a closer look at the TAMIYA Jumbo kit I bought I am more leaning towards the ASUKA kit being more accurate. The TAMIYA Jumbo I have will most likely be for parts?

Very nice video like everytime Shane, I am excited for the painting and the suspension video and pressed the bell. I didn't know Asuka Model before, I looked at Scalemates for it and it looks like something nice for Sherman cracks like us. Greets from Germany Aiden P.S. Sorry for bad english how you know am I a thirteen years old german.
@longlance67
@longlance67 5 лет назад
thanks very much mate, Asuka are the best out there for Sherman's can be a bit pricey but they are worth it. I've bent my airbrush needle so I need to replace it so it will take a week or so for a new one to arrive. So the painting video will a little delayed

Shaping up nicely, excellent build Shane (too bad about the audio) 👍 Hard to believe the measures the Sherman crews had to go to, trying to protect themselves.
@longlance67
@longlance67 6 лет назад
thanks Jerry, it was a copyright calm that caught me out, but I will know not to include that track in future, goes to show that crews were facing some fierce weaponry

Yeah, the Germans tended to build some powerful AT guns, that they got right!

I;m with you except for the primer, I wouldn't use a rattle can for anything, The ONLY primer is UMP/Styelrez :)
@longlance67
@longlance67 6 лет назад
The rattle primer works and it's cheaper than badgers primer and if you have a lot of multi media projects on the go as I do, having a primer that I can deploy quickly to check my work as I go is key

See if RFM done there 50.cals separately sold from there new interior sherman they would be a box full in my parts box there absolutely stunning best I've ever seen to date! I'm now building mengs Jumbo I'm doing Cobra king the one on box art but I have managed to find the correct cast numbers for her and side ones for turret the ones on turret are just from a Google pic that mix and match jumbo the cheiftians in as a youn guy on that Dugs video lol and I've had to cut the notch out the fire extinguisher cut offs on at the back of the turret I'm sure Tascas kit had this in the instructions at one time when I done it many moons ago but not great for showing what way it's cut out and the sand skirts I've had to extend to accommodate the duckbills mengs just had them flat spot welded on to the extra armour plates although some were like this people would argue they weren't but originally photos don't lie lol but Cobra King's were 3 inch inch extend and alot were not fitted with the Hulls air vent in-between the hat hatches it's been brilliant researching all about the Jumbo for this build I will get another as want to do the 76mm version too with the concrete armour on the front like this! I've got loads of 3D printed footman loops and up detailing sets from MJ miniatures and the straped tool clamps etc and a mj miniatures and scale 75 resin crew! Definitely an expensive build now I think of it haha but that's part of the fun eh lol! Great build bud!
@longlance67
@longlance67 3 года назад
seems you have been gathering quite the collection of goodies for your build! I really want to build Meng's M4A3 76mm as Thunderbolt VI as I am slowly building my way through Abrams' mounts during the war! I will have to checkout RFM's 50cal as I have that kit in my stash also Tamiya's new 50s arnt bad either to be fair

Great videos all of yours !!! My friend how much you dillute Val Mod Air for general spraying and what pressure you use ?
@longlance67
@longlance67 5 лет назад
thanks John! so for model air I tend to just add two or three of airbursh flow improver which gets a very nice result. As for air pressure I tend to spray from 15PSI to 20PSI range

It's a shame ASUKA is now longer producing new products...they were really leading the way with Shermans.
@longlance67
@longlance67 6 лет назад
it really is, if only they would release a BARV or British ARV they would have complete mastery of the Sherman market, instead they just release the same kits again and again, don't get me wrong I am happy they do as I have a few more of their kits I want to get but it really wish they would make some of the more exotic Shermans too

Heyho, I wanted to ask you what the difference is between Asuka Models and Tamiya models, I am new and wanted to get the Type 74, but there is a really big price difference of 30 €.
@longlance67
@longlance67 5 лет назад
I am not too familiar with their Type 74 kit, if it is a new tool kit then it has the same great engineering as a Tamiya kit without some of the simplifications Tamiya sometimes does to detail. Best google reviews to see if it is a new Asuka release or a Tamiya rebox
