Damn that was a quick one. People that complain about the price even though it only took 15 minutes have no respect for a person that put in a lot of hours learning what to look for. I have tons of respect for you Alex. If I ever come across something I can’t fix I’ll definitely send it to you and now that I think of it I have a Lenovo yoga 3 that blew an inductor off the board when someone plugged in a Chromebook charger that I may send you.

Way back in time, I worked on repairing RCA 16mm movie projectors. The audio amplifier consisted of six transistors. If the amp had blown its fuse, five of the six transistors would be dead shorted. Initially they also had these cute electrolytics with a black bakelite tubular body and red goop plugging the ends. Those were always down to 5% of their rated capacitance, so they all got replaced by new Sprague quality capacitors. All mounted through-hole so easy to replace. No microscope needed. Life was simple back then! Nowdays the parts are all too small for me to see!

Its a laptop tho, people dont want thicker laptops so they have to work with that in mind. Thats why as an example cpu's and gpu's in most modern laptops are soldered to the motherboard 😅

I work in IT and have a lot of people ask for help with picking out gaming laptops. It's funny because a lot of them are dead set on getting an Asus. They seem to think Asus is the "be all end all" manufacturer for gaming products. I tell them what I see here every other day and they change their mind. They make great desktop motherboards, but their laptop motherboards are trash.

ASUS does great marketing and still lives off its image from the 90s and early 2000s. It's unbelievable how long these "myths" prevail. At least they seem to have improved their service from "beyond repair" to "barely endurable"...

This guy's scope saved my butt. Once again I bent pins on the damn Switch LCD connector.. so irritated with myself. With the scope I straightened all four bent pins with his micro needles in about 7 to 10 minutes and it worked! Me so happy. Then I bent the connector pins on the cartridge reader! WTF- what a day, I'm no Big Boss apparently but I salvaged that part too. Good times, thanks Northridge Fix for your great products! Savin' my butt everyday! lol

People complaining "It's just another bad cap" doesn't indeed know that most short circuits are caused by bad caps so they assume it's an easy fix and the repair should be dirt cheap. It's like a medic doing first aid while a spectator is expecting the medic to do brain surgery on the spot.

Your shop looks exactly like ours. Semi-controlled chaos. We don't do component level repair though. Your videos have me thinking that with a bit more practice and the right equipment, I can do them. I just don't want to be the guy who ruined a board so bad you can't repair it. I've submitted a quote request to big boss for now on a project that we can't get to power on. Thanks for the explanation of why the give away was stopped. I assumed there must have been a reason why you didn't continue it but thought it might be RU-vid rather than scammers and problems with sending the money. A very generous and noble thing to do spoiled by scammers and paranoid govt officials (not that there is a great deal of difference between the two).

Cannon at what speed..👍👍👍. In the test at the end you see dust on the screen on the left side that came from the keyboard, usually the fan after 3-4 months of using the games clogs up with dust

Read the application note/datasheet for the component it sits next to and see what us suggested. Also experience helps a lot.

Just from looking at the caps that were replaced, it looks like some kind of metal object touched those points while the board was under power and bridged them. They have that classic scorch mark pattern on them that indicates some arcing.

From my experience in mobile phone service about 15 years ago: as soon as you need a circuit diagram or repair manual it's no longer a profit because it takes too long. You can do it if you have time and want to learn something, or for a special customer of course - but from a purely economic point of view it's completely uninteresting

when you need to wire money out of the country use western union, was more simple also you can add somekind of code which helps to verify receiver, you have to tell the code to receiver than they can take that money by declare that code. And i bet you can use WU with your own bank account too.

I live in Europe in one of the poorest country of the EU and last year my city was changing whole power grid after 15 years of using old one. So yes, from my POV is US system very archaic. Wood poles with rusty oil transformers etc. 😕

The type of stuff he's doing is usually taught in trade schools where I live (a specialized kind of high school). For higher education, Electrical engineering and more specifically Micro Electrical engineering.

I have a ASS in Electronics Engineering but that will teach you the basic theory. Like everyone said above it is self taught. Example: Used to work for HP back in the late 90’s as a laser printer repair technician but over thousands of printers I repaired I never did at the component level. For HP was not cost effective to have a Tech spending an hour on a printer in most cases when you have all the spare parts 20 meters away. 🤷🏻‍♂️. That been said those power supplies, scanners and fuser s went to a depot for refurbish.
