I hope you built a recovery drive BEFORE formatting that original hard drive, as if the migration wasn't 100%, you won't be able to. I got my migration done OK, but it can NOT build the recovery drive from the cloned SSD...it "should" still be possible from the original HD, if I remove the SSD and reset everything to use the HD, but I haven't tested that theory out yet. PS: If anyone else wants to get an SSD and they have an M.2 slot, USE THAT and keep the original drive inside for storage.
ElectroPig Von Fokkengruuven No I did not, Samsung micration software wouldn't copy the recovery partition. It's ok though, if I ever have to reinstall I will buy a key online for win 10, or call Asus to see if they have recovery DVD.
LoveAviation If you're in the states, the recovery disk (most likely a $5.00 USB drive or $10.00 SD card) will cost you $45.00. Plus shipping. Probably also overpriced. (Yeah...I checked. d;o) Can't get one in Canada though...and ASUS US won't ship to Canada. You can get your install key out of your BIOS with one of the tools you can find in NIRLauncher. d=O) Oh, and that's a set of FREE tools & utilities...I'm so cheap, I'll even try to save YOUR money! d;o) I've also hear that Paragon makes a "migrate HD to SSD" package (that may even be what they call it?), which I'm looking into tomorrow...the brain's just plain run outta steam for tonight. d=^P
ElectroPig Von Fokkengruuven i thought you cant use oem key to do a fresh install. when the time comes i will look for an economical solution. but thanks for your info. ...this video is for noobs as i decided to record it as i did it. since i made this video i purchased a standalone drive duplicator that does 1:1 copies. i no longer have the original drive in original condition but it's ok. i will make it work when time comes.
LoveAviation From what they told me, as long as you've got am OEM image, it reads the key from BIOS. EIther way, worth verifying BEFORE you throw good money away. (Well, "good fiat debt notes" or "good zeroes and ones that don't exist", anyway... d;o) I've also been thinking about getting a duplicator. Remember when all this stuff used to be simple? Remember when EVERYTHING used to come with a MANUAL? (sigh...)
