got my ally on day 1 drop. only thing i hate about it of course is the sd card reader but outside of that ever since i upgraded internal memory to 2tb ive been playing on it more then my 4090 pc setup. being able to sit on the couch and lie down with it is nice. lot of the time after work i just dont feel like sitting on my desk to game.
The rog ally has been amazing to me, had it since day one and never had issues, my steam deck is great but I always come back to the ally for cod warzone, cyberpunk and red dead 2
Worth every penny. I have dreamed of owning a PC but can't afford a £3,000 PC set up. I have a quest 3 but got bummed out about the niche AAA games. I bought the Ally purely for cloud gaming on long journeys. It only dawned on me to see if it could handle acting as PCVR and it can. I have done the Titanic VR game which I have always wanted to try. Also ran Titanic Honour and Glory. I'm now journeying down the modded fifa route with it to reminisce about the old premier league days. It's been a brilliant purchase, for just £400 for me (argos, United Kingdom)
I think the same about whether it is still worth it, since it has already been confirmed that the second generation is being worked on. ""We most likely will launch a second generation [handheld gaming console] this year. We will still keep the Windows features, but we will focus more on gaming"" Arnold Su, VP Consumer and Gaming PC, Asus India But I think it won't be released until 2025. Why...??...since AMD won't bring its new chip onto the market until the end of the year and therefore there wouldn't be enough time for production + launch.
I honest don’t know what happened but the moment I reset my rog ally and reinstalled windows my microsd card slot started working again. Idk who this may help but lmk ☁️❤️
All i care about is Tekken 8. The praise and hype post launch is unprecedented and i don't wanna miss the party. I wanna grind combos on the go and play online on weekends since I wont spend much time at home. Ally i think is the one. I'll play in 720p idc
I'm glad you talked about the joysticks... I was wondering why I was suddenly aiming at the sky when playing Fortnite... now I know I need hall effect upgrade. So I had the OG 512 Steam Deck and the Lenovo Legion Go but the Ally is the best handheld hands down.
Legion Go is super uncomfortable. Controllers really dig in your palms and it’s painful, specially the left hand side controller. Rog Ally is super comfortable compared!
Im glad i have my ally but im on my 3rd one, and have a crap repair story on top. But i was aware of these things. My R8 model and constant updates seem to help. I have no confidence in the sd slot long term but have used it and on the 2 devices ive been able to play on never experienced this issue, but it's real. Long story short i love my ally, but im glad i didnt sell my xbox as a way to save or make some cash and value my nintendo switch a little more than i already did. Runs about everything ive thrown at it, i personally avoid turbo mode keep it at 18 watts. But thats just me. I know what it can do when id decide to crank it. Im also a fan of the cloud although it isnt perfect and for games i dont want eating storage its the best device ive uses for that. I'd say if you are a pc snob and skeptical probably not for you. But i am a busy dad who works weird hours and i dont have a pc prior to this so i am glad i have one. If this will last me 2 years ill be very happy. I just dont see me keeping a $620 (which i got it for) gaming pc for more than 2 years. I will want to upgrade by then.
Perfectly understandable, Ally is great when your busy and having a console to go with it gives you a even better experience. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for watching!
I started playing starfield two days ago and I am shocked at how snood it runs. It’s just stupid smooth even at low setting. I am just stunned…smh I am glad I purchased this thing a week ago.
@@ChrisMizotbf though too bro my 1tb SD card works fine in my ROG. I picked up a 1tb SanDisk U3 card for $103 in Dubai airport so I got taxes off. Since it was in duty free
@_SYDGAMING_ sounds like you got a good deal on it, have you installed some games on your SD card? I've had one in there but now I just leave it in my USB hub.
@@ChrisMizo yeah I've about 20 steam games some roms and emus on there main os I have cod warzone and Tekken 8 on it . Yeah I got a USB hub myself I got one of the Dell wd19 180w USB hubs that can activate turbo while charging
Well, it offers less performance than a Mini PC for the same price As a handheld, it's not at all well made nor competent. 'Muh power' isn't gonna be enough to compete against its main competitor in the handheld market as it's all it brings to the table I've seen PC handhelds thru out the years, and they all have the exact same issue: over spec'd with a severely underpowered battery. Biting off more than it can chew As a gaming machine in general, it's not bad. It's over priced compared to Mini PCs. As a handheld, it's not good. Especially not with all the other options on the market. Poorly designed. Not well thought out. Rushed. A quick cash grab, jumping on the latest fad. That's what it rly feels like
@@Speculatiion That's a good question. I never actually paid attention to their names, and if I did, I've long forgotten. I think Win GDP might've been some of them? I just saw the $1200+ price tags and didn't bother to look into them further. I merely kept a 'loose' eye on them. I often saw them pop into my recommendations since 2018. But that's about it. Errytime I looked at them, they had the same issue: They got rly hot, and they didn't last long I've tried looking for them recently, but I can't get any results apart from Ally, LeGo, and Steam Deck, and whatever new handheld is coming
@@Speculatiion That's a good question. I never paid attention to their names. Even if I had, I've long since forgotten. "AMD" was the front and foremost in the titles. Could've been Win GDP or One X Player? They've been at it for a while, I think. These PC Handhelds are what lead me to discover a RU-vidr called "ETA Prime" who reviews handhelds and Mini PCs n stuff I just remember the "AMD" in the titles and seeing $1200 pricetags. I always called them worthless since I could build a PC that is far superior for the same price. Those PC handhelds were literally worthless and sucked at being portable. The ONLY people buying them, are idiots and people who have nothing to buy and $1200 lying around I've been seeing these PC Handhelds since 2018. They were all laughable with their 1080p120 displays, their RGBs, them getting RLY hot, etc. Gawd they were so stupidly designed
