Asus ROG Azoth vs. Asus ROG Scope II

For the longest time, I gamed on full-sized keyboards. At first, it was all we mouse-and-keyboard gamers had and I transitioned into the working world where the benefits of the 10-key numpad became understandable. Until around 2015, I was exclusive to full-sized keyboards, but I eventually tried a TKL keyboard and never really looked back. Watch my story to understand why I’m sticking with the Asus ROG Azoth keyboard.

8:02 i am currently very used to where Del key is on my currently laptop, it is actually right beside the power button to it's left, LOLOL!!! Then Home, End, Pg Up, Pg Dn to the right that completes the first row. It is awkward position I do agree, but I have gotten used to it over soon 7 years. (2 laptops, same manufacturer, same model just different brand CPU.)

@mrbabyhugh yea, almost every keyboard requires some form of muscle memory retraining...so the home, end, pg up / down, etc is rarely the same. Minor points for sure.

if you could get the azoth with snow switches. idk if theyre swappable but the sound of the snow switches is chefs kiss lol. ive tested so many keyboards through amazon. have been leaning toward razer but after hearing asus snow switches i may be going that the scope route. i personally love having number pad if i have to type numbers outside of gaming. not often you have to enter that many numbers. currently using v2 huntsman full size. had tkl but wanted to see about fullsize. personally i use a fast dpi on my mouse so i dont have issues with space for mouse when gaming with full size kb. may try v3 huntsman if i dont like the 96% asus scope II. keychron v5 and q5 keyboards sound great too and along the lines of custom keyboards. i think ive learned i want a little clickiness but not alot from my keyboard which snow switches do perfectly.

Great review btw, and very well detailed content, i been using the scope ii 96 for about a week now and i didn’t realize that there’s is a flagship from Asus called Azoth until i ordered it and will be testing it out today and will see which one to keep, trying to get my games entertainment hobby back :) , btw the scope ii 96 came with snow switches so i made the same decision with the Azoth not sure was the $50 even worth it, not really sure how they’re different from the Red switches since on their website shows minimal differences and i got no choice to get the Red since they were sold out. Thanks again you earned a subs 👌🎉

@costantineyoussif6679 the Asus Scope II 96 is an excellent keyboard; however, with the Azoth coming down in price (at least for blue, reds & sometimes brown), I think the Azoth is still a better value. I also like the 75% layout. I just did a one-year review on the Azoth and I still think its the best, mass market 75% keyboard on the market. I cannot wait to see what Asus designs for an Azoth 2. Appreciate the kind comment and the sub!

As a mechanical enthusiast, the spacebar on your Azoth does sound like it rattles :). That's okay, because the Azoth looks like it's designed to be customizable, so you easily disassemble the keyboard to get to the spacebar and lube the stabilizer, or replace the stabilizer entirely. Thanks for the review! Just curious. How programmable are the keys in the Azoth? If you get a chance to play around with the programmable macros, please upload and share. Cheers!

Thanks for the comment and agree with you 100% on the Azoth's stabilizers -- very rattly and probably pulled too hard on the space bar when I first received the Azoth. This is a great content idea and I'll try to put in some Durock V2 Stabilizers with some Krytox 205G lube!

I have both keyboards on my desk right now and the Azoth space bar on mine doesn't rattle. But I've an earlier unit at my office that does a wee bit. Still a great feeling I am not sure yet what stock feel I prefer between the 96 and the Azoth.

TKL for life used to also use the num pad all the time for excel as it was part of my job. Unless your doing data entry and doing it all day its definitly more ergonomic to take it away to give yourself better posture and more mouse space. I am a bit torn between the Asus Azoth right now or the RK Roayl Kludge RK84 mostly want one of the two for wireless, both on sale for Black Friday. For pure gaming performance, one day I will get a Wooting or Drunk Deer or something with Hall Effect switches. Want wireless via USB dongle for workign on servers and stuff, or equipment I am not sitting infront of. Appreciated this review as the Scope looked good upfront as it has a lot of the same tech, but there are too many flaws.

@mynusten
@mynusten 6 месяцев назад
I would assume cherry keycaps should work on the Asus keyboards, but the one thing you have to always check are the space bar and other bottom-row keys. The bottom-row keys come in a variety of shapes. Also, the manufacturing quality will factor in as 75% and smaller keyboards don't have any space between each key. Good luck on your mods.

Hi good day to all i have a question, what is the difference between red/brown or blue switches? thanks
@mynusten
@mynusten 9 месяцев назад
Hi there, blue switches are what gamers call clicky switches and have a very heavy tactile feel with an audible click when activating the key. Browns are tactile and have a lower tactile feel with almost no click. Reds are linear without the bump or tactile feel on the downward stroke. Gamers usually prefer reds. For typing, browns have a more pleasant feel and are relatively common in gaming, too. Unless you live by yourself, Blues are only for the die hards as anyone around you will be very annoyed by the constant noise coming from your keyboard. Hope this helps.

@mgcarnevalio1 there isn't a way to turn off the OLED screen, but you can lower its brightness. I was worried about it being a battery drain when I first bought the Azoth; however, I have come to very much appreciate the OLED screen and I glance at it everyday. In regards to battery life, I leave the OLED & RGB brightness on at 100% and I have to recharge the keyboard once per week. After watching tons of keyboard review vids (including yours) I just received my Rog Strix Scope 2. Maybe ASUS was listening to you because the connectivity switcher now has a raised rib and its easy to find it by feel. And by the way, outside of the ugly ass lettering they use on the keycaps, this keyboard is the best sounding, feeling, everything keyoard i've ever had. So happy to not have to install software - just plug and play due to that macro button and scroll wheel and well marked keycaps to make switching rgb coloring/brightness so easy.

I’ve been waffling between these exact two keyboards over the last couple days. Helpful stuff, not to mention timely. I’m upgrading from a Razer Huntsman Elite for exactly the reasons you mentioned: I almost never use the numpad, periphs like the G502/X have been really eye opening that wireless is the way to go as long as there are sources verifying latency performance, and I’m exactly the type of person who’s always been enticed by the custom enthusiast realm. A couple questions: did you notice a big difference with battery performance between the two? You also mentioned that the scope ii keycaps felt more cramped. Are they actually physically smaller compared to the keycaps on the Azoth (given the obvious mutations like the numpad 0 and the right side shift/ctrl/alt keys) or is the spacing between keys thinner, or was that more of the overall impression due to the keyboard layout? Ty!
@mynusten
@mynusten 11 месяцев назад
Hi there, great questions. For battery, I didn't do a test, but the Scope II will most likely have the longer battery life as it doesn't have the OLED display. On the Azoth, I keep the brightness at 100% and I get about 4 to 5 days of very heavy use before having to recharge it. On the OLED screen, the Azoth has a battery charge indicator, which is nice. For me, recharging once per week is not a big deal. As for the "cramped-ness" of the Scope II, this has more to do with the footprint. I believe the keycaps are the same size, but Asus shrank the overall footprint, so some keys are in awkward locations on the keyboard, for example the delete key. If you are a touch-typist, this may make more sense. All that said, both keyboards are great, but its impossible for me to go back to a full-sized keyboard.
@importjunjun
@importjunjun 11 месяцев назад
@@mynusten So very much in part due to your video and reply, I went ahead with the Azoth, received it Friday, and spent all weekend with it. Absolutely adore it - I was fantasizing about going back home just to use it again all day at work, lol. So thanks for pointing me in the right direction! One quick thing is you mentioned that the OLED screen easily scratches, and I've seen similar comments around the internet where even wiping it with a microfiber cloth will leave marks. That seemed off to me, and it turns out there's a really precise-fit protective film over the screen out of the box. I'm pretty familiar with Asus products, so I carefully prodded with my fingernail around the edges of the OLED screen and sure enough, caught an edge and peeled off that protective film, even though it's so well fit that I wasn't sure it was even there (they really should leave some kind of tab sticking out so people have an easy way to peel it off). You probably knew that and maybe the screen really is that scratch-prone in the longer term, but I've been using microfiber to wipe mine and it clears up very nicely 😎
@mynusten
@mynusten 11 месяцев назад
@@importjunjun interesting and I am checking my OLED screen. My son, who has much better eyes than me, gave it a quick look, but couldn't see the film. We'll keep checking it out and see if the film is still on the OLED screen. What switches did you get? Its a great keyboard and I'm going put new, Durock V2 stabilizers in it after Labor Day. Hopefully, the Durocks will fix my spacebar rattle. Glad my video helped you out!
@importjunjun
@importjunjun 11 месяцев назад
@@mynusten If you never peeled film off the OLED screen, it's definitely there! (Very similar to the film that was on the eye logo on the bottom side). It's extremely thin and precisely fit - I could only get it off by removing the top aluminum cover and kinda prodding/rubbing with my nail and finger, very carefully, upwards around the exposed screen edges I'm starting to do more productivity-type stuff at home, and reds lead to more typos than I'd like. I'm likely going to keep the stock switches on WASD and spacebar, but for everything else I ordered a set of 62g Aqua King V3s. I was also really interested in the dual-stage-spring Tecsee Ice Candies (prioritizing transparent housings to keep dat rgb sparkly). The gateway is real x_x

@@BrawndoQC The beauty of today is choice. I am going to try my first 60% keyboard in a few weeks as I just ordered the Wooting 60HC...not sure how I'll cope without F keys and wireless, but I hear rave comments about it. For my, my sweet spot is 75%.

@mrbabyhugh definitely smaller form factor for gaming, but I work in the Finance industry and used to use the 10-key numpad all the time. Instead of having two keybaords, I just ended-up going with the TKL / 75% form factor. I have not issues with full-sized keybaords, but since my channel is more focused on gaming vs. work gear, I find it hard to recommend a full-sized keybaord for gaming. Just my views though. Thanks for the feedback👍and alwasys looking for ways to improve my content deliver!
