ASUS ROG Flow X13 - The Best 13-inch Gaming Laptop! 

I have it as my travel for work laptop and it’s amazing tbh. I’d be lying if I told you I don’t use it more for gaming than for work lol.

If only the 4050 and 4060 versions had more than 16GB of RAM. The only reason I still want to get the 4070 version is the 32GB of RAM.

I have the 22 model (R9 + 3050ti) and cant recommend it enough, its amazing how much you get out of it for its size and yes, the touch-screen pen support is much better than you expect. Its not a cheap device, but worth every cent. Highly recommend it

The only reason ANYBODY should buy the 4070 is only for the 32gb ram. If you work with VMs a lot professionally then you're sort of forced to because 16 just doesn't cut it anymore these days. Nevertheless, excellent review Mathew 🙏

if this is anything like the Zephyrus G14, then Advanced Optimus is off by default for new batches and you have to manually turn it on. There is actually a good reason for that. Both AMD and Intel integrated chipsets require ports to be routed through the iGPU to enable PCIe tunneling, so Thunderbolt 4/USB4 ports cannot be connected directly to the dGPU. ASUS standard practice for gaming laptops is to leave at least one USB-C DP alt mode port without Thunderbolt 4/USB4 as the designated direct-to-dGPU port. The HDMI port also is connected to the dGPU. That way you can get maximum performance out of an external monitor whether it is a DP or HDMI display (or both). While it makes a lot of sense from a performance standpoint, the trouble with that architecture is that, Advanced Optimus works by connecting the laptop display simultaneously to both the iGPU and the dGPU, once as display and once as virtual display, then suspending one driver or the other in software. When Advanced Optimus suspends the dGPU driver, external displays not routed through the iGPU stop working. Having it work that way out of the box obviously causes a whole lot of "OMFG ASUS laptops external displays glitches out all the time" outcries, so they now leave it off by default. People are less likely to pick up pitchforks over Advanced Optimus not being on by default. Just remember to switch your external monitor to a port connected to the iGPU (in this case, the USB4 port) before you turn on Advanced Optimus.

I feel like they have ignored this x13 lineup after last year given how niche it is. If they had put a vapor chamber cooling system in it they could potentially run the gpu @80w which is significantly better than 60w . I wouldn't mind the other quirks that come with it if they did that, also the high price tag would seem more justifiable.

Did you turn on Dolby Atmos Dynamic Option? It made a huge difference for mine like 50% extra volume. I love mine with a 4050 but wish it was available with 32GB or RAM was upgradeable. Thought about returning but ultimately ended up keeping it. The screen is really impressive considering it's not an OLED the viewing angles and colors are amazing. Also wish there was a bit more power but I figure I'll just buy an eGPU if I ever really need it. For 95%+ of my use cases the portability of this thing makes sense. And with G-Helper instead of Armoury Crate, I get zero fan noise when on Silent. The fans can be pretty controlled in that App.

This seems like the best compact laptop that can also be used for gaming, so far. But I would set limiter on its performance (fps/tdp/turbo), to be noise and heat free. I wish the manufacturers dgave more focus to that aspect. But I'm ok with having performance that matches a computer from 2-3 years ago, while keeping it cool and silent But it IS expensive though..

I was able to buy this laptop from Best Buy. I have the 4070 with 32 gig of ram for all the monies. A couple things in this review are wrong. First, there is advanced optimus mux switching without restarting. It came on by default (or was enabled in an update). I think it might have been enabled when I switched my Nvidia driver from Studio to Game Ready. Also, this laptop is completely silent and cool when not gaming. Literally no sound. I am in the performance mode in Armory Crate as well.

I like the concept of this laptop, but it’s very expensive considering you can’t squeeze all the power of the cpu and gpu.

4070 performance indeed is tanked by low tdp in x13. But the thing is, 4060 version's performance also is going to be tanked. Purpose of low tdp 4070 is to match performance of high tdp 4060, as performance of low tdp 4060 is going to be much lower.

People dismiss tent mode... but it is so effective on flights when you fly coach and your table is as small as an elongated index card

I think 32GB RAM only comes with the 4070 … a comparison between the 4060 and the 4070 in this chassis would be interesting

Buying the 4070 is Worth If you want the Most Performance. I'll use it as basically a 3 in 1: Laptop, Tablet and PC. And If you wanna use IT as a PC replacement youre gonna want all the extra Power you can get.

Excellent review! I own the same model and I feel the same way about it. I love it but the GPU performance does bother me a bit because it’s really not worth paying the extra money for.

Do the Zenbook Pro 14 OLED next! I replaced my 2021 X13 with one and found it a better compromize in power vs size.

watching this from the first model (r9 5900 + 1650 maxq), this thing is amazing! gaming, media consuming, even light 4k editing is a breeze. It gets noisy when the fans all get turbo'd up, but not that bad and using a non-noise canceling headphone will already take care of that problem, it looks like this model has a ever so slightly thinner chin compared to my model. so glad that Asus keep updating this model because I would like to upgrade to something similar to this thing down the line. and finger crossed they will always update the xg mobile that goes with this series of laptops. anyway, great content as always, cheers Matthew!

One reminder: You gave two opposite advices in your video :) 1. Avoid the 4070 Model 2. At 7:55 you suggest to get 32GB of RAM => Unfortunately the only version with 32GB RAM comes with the 4070. So if you wanna get 32GB RAM, you have to spend premium!

This would have been my dream laptop if they offered it without a discreet gpu. The 7940HS can benchmark close to the 1650 when overclocked. It would also increase the battrey life and make room for a full size ssd. Perhaps brand it as the AMD edition.

I don't get your last argument regarding the RTX 4050 vs 4060 vs 4070. To my understanding, for similar performance, the 4070 is significantly more efficient than the 4060, and in turn the 4060 more efficient than the 4050. According to another video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jMMrh6PpLI4.html), 60fps in 1440p seems to require only roughly 57W for the RTX 4070, but 85W for the RTX 4060: a 50% increase (= 33% less efficient). For such a compact and mobile platform, for which thermals are a bottleneck and for which you'll likely value battery life, this is a game changer.

I have the AMD Advantage G14 with the Radeon 6800 in it & i don't have issues with it getting too hot. The battery life is INCREDIBLE. I took it on vacation & it lasted 10 hours between charges. I also love that it has type c charging, so i don't have to take my big power brick with me. Oh & it charges fast af. Performance-wise, it's able to run almost every game at max settings at 60fps. I do get a bit more fps if I put it on a laptop cooling pad, but it's not really necessary. I thought i was also going to build a desktop as I've been using the same GTX 980m laptop for like 7 years, but using this thing made me realize how much more powerful gaming laptops have become. My iGPU set to 15 watts beats my old laptops dedicated GPU. I also love the size. It's perfect. Doesnt feel too small or too big. The only complaint I really have is that the white keys can be hard to read in a well-lit room.

I am an Asus ROG G15 (2022 model) owner. I am trying to RMA that laptop because it has defective iGPU (AMD Radeon 680M inside the AMD Ryzen 7 6800HS CPU made by AsusTek), and have been definitely REGRETting buying it. (yes continously regretting) If I see an Asus laptop post in my feed, I feel the need to inform the good people of internet about what they may confront with. Don't buy from Asus because their products have issues(mostly QA-quality assurance) and their EU RMA contractors are just bad people.

I just watched the whole video and went to ASUS' website and I have a few comments: - Only the 4070 version can be specced with 32GB of RAM and every other model is limited to 16GB - The cheapest model only has the iGPU of the Ryzen SoC, a 780M, but it too comes with the proprietary connector for their external GPUs - Also the cheapest model has the worst screen of all - No prices are published for any of the models For me, the cheapest model plus one their external GPUs will be a match made in heaven, however, what's a deal breaker for me is the RAM limitation. ASUS: if you're going to solder RAM to the board, at least give us the option to purchase it with 32GBs, or even better, don't solder it.

Honestly, I feel like the sweetspot for this device is actually the 4060, because it has 8GB of VRAM, which is very important. The 4070 seems like a rip-off tho.

Get the 4060 z flow instead of this. Its 20 percent better in games and my cpu never goes above 75 dagrees while gaming fans are also quieter than the x13 plus you get the xg mobile the core i9 and not too bad of battery at 6 hours of light use. Portability is similar although it is heavier and its MUCH cheaper than this model.

I'm loving the HP style glass screen they incorporated into the Rog Flow X13 but the design is ugh! Not so attractive with those lines going all over the computer. I AlthoughI just purchased the 20222 model Zypherus G14 and am not thinking about purchasing another laptop for a year, I'm good with this one but I do love the design of the X13 (Sounds like a DELL laptop), Just not the gray lines. They shouldbe made it all black. I also love the fact it's a 2-1. I don't see too many 2-1 gaming laptops. Anyone? I'm sure there are plenty. Guess I just never paid attention.

I have the 2021 version. The heat and cpu management are issues, for which I have workarounds. I have an XG Mobile RTX 3080 and I also have an ROG Ally. I have sold my desktop pc last year: all of my computing needs are met. Business, tablet, desktop gaming, portable gaming. And everything fits in a 15 inch shoulder bag or backpack. Amazing.

The storage size is 1 TB with M.2 2230 form factor. It can be upgraded to 4 TB using an extended bracket from Amazon that be cut off to fit M.2 2280 SSD.

There was one chapter missing: “About removing Asus bloatware.”

I need ASUS to bring back the Zephyrus S and Zephyrus M series.

I wonder whether ASUS will set this up as a performance Chromebook as there are rumors for gaming Chromebook that are not just doing cloud gaming. This looks like a sweet balance between cloud and local gaming.

Finally a tiny but powerful laptop that i will definitely buy....2 years from now.

These are super expensive, they gotta come down in price just a bit before I drop the cash for one. Shame they don't have a built in pen, like most Lenovo models. If Thinkpad could make a yoga, with a dedicated graphics-- I'd be all over it, but they just don't. Wasted potential.

I agree with almost everything you mention. The laptop looks awesome, if this is the size you're after, but who wants to pay for those expensive, high-end components only to see them intentionally stunted by the OEM? It feels more like marketing or getting people who don't watch Matt Moniz videos to buy this thinking you are getting the actual performance of a 7940hs and 4070 when, in fact, that is not quite the case. But, on the other hand, the lid is ribbed for your pleasure, and perhaps that is more important than anything else :)

oh god i forgot about laptops have the 40 series card. i bought a 4070ti graphics card expensive af...but imagine how expensive is the mobile version xD less performance and cost a ton i bet...

You can’t get 32gb of ram without the 4070… at least not from a retailer. I’ve bought 6 gaming laptops so far…. GET THE WARRANTY FROM A RETAILER. Best Buy is your best bet, unless you buy an Alienware… there’s no touch Alienware… so here you are.

This looks tempting. I have a G14 with 3050Ti as my daily, and a Dell Latitude 13 inch 2in1 laptop for work stuff. This thing could replace the need to carry around both machines!

It is not the Zephyrus X13. It's the Flow X13. Also you can only get 32GB RAM with the 4070, so your statements about getting 32GB but not getting the 4070 are contradictory. Otherwise, good review!

Hey man, I don't usually do this and I hope you don't take it in a bad way, but here is what I missed after watching the video: 1. didn't get to know the price 2. 7 hours of battery time, in what conditions tho, I would like to know more about things like that so I can maybe compare to my usage 3. and maybe just mention the weight as it is being marketed as a work/gaming laptop

They should've strip this laptop of that RTX4070 mobile (which is useless due to a 60W only) so customers can afford their XG Mobile and use it as a desktop , and On the GO they can use the 780M which is a very capable iGPU

I bought one just a week ago and found the AMD integrated card was malfunctioning. Refunded. Very disappointed.

Just get an XG Mobile if you eant better GPU performance. You can get it with a 4090 and it WILL run on high voltage.

i still have 2020 model fo ROG X13 and IF ...IF the surface is the same , i cannot recomended. surface on keyboard disappeared after several months looks like 10year old "rusty" notebook. as the new is nice. also battery after 2 years is almost dead. i do not used it for gaming ! i used it for all day work. Powerfull - yes, loud - yes, quality is poor . never more !!!

The soldered RAM and the fact that it does not have a more commercialized SSD format keeps me from buying it.

ROG Flow X13 is the best laptop I have ever owned. It does everything. If the heating problem is resolved in this version, the only issue is that the XG Mobile slot is wasted for most people. If Asus can release a budget-priced XG Mobile device, smaller, without GPU but with the usual collection of extra ports, perhaps with an extra nvme slot or two, it will be great.

Чел не шарит, что зарядка в 130 Ватт, не означает, что система ограничена 130 Ваттами, а с аккума добрать? я так регулярно на g14, врубаю зарядку от тайп С вместо стандартной на 230 Ватт и гоняю в игры с небольшой подпиткой от батареи. Часа 3-4, далее уже финт не прокатит) И всё же 4070 лучше 4060, они обе ограничены по TDP, обе сожрут свои Ватты, но фпс 4070 даст больше. Я лично выбрал g14, потяжелее, но кадров больше)
