Thank you for taking the time to respond to questions, I did not expect the reduced power profiles in tablet mode so that's very good to know since I'd be using it as a desktop replacement in tablet mode.

Man the RTX 4070 just destroying the value proposition in every laptop. Premium price with lackluster upgrade over 3070/Ti and with just 8GB VRAM. It's RTX 4060 or straight 4080. 4070 is in no man's land.
@NotebookcheckReviews
@NotebookcheckReviews 5 месяцев назад
Yeah, it's in a weird spot, but the RTX4070 is the only option with the MiniLED 🫠
@antalpoti

True. I honestly don't know what could salvage it. More VRAM? Better raster? Bit of both? Probably a bit of both.
@moken-cf7vu
@moken-cf7vu 5 месяцев назад
@antalpoti well, Ad104 with 5888 cuda cores and everything that comes along with it (practically 4070 desktop chip). It would be right in the middle between current 4070 and 4080 laptop gpus. They could call it 4070 ti...
@dvr1337
@dvr1337 5 месяцев назад
Same for pc. 4070 or even a ti is more expensive than a 7900xt with 20gb and way more Performance 😂
@motherflerkentannhauser8152

I would go as far as saying that anything higher than 4060 has terrible value. In this generation, (full power) mobile 4060 and 4050 are not only the same chips but also have similar TDPs as their desktop versions. But the difference in power starts to differ drastically starting from 4070. So, yeah, a mobile 4080 might be much faster than a mobile 4060 but you'd also be paying like $800 more. Unless, you can get them cheap, like M16 2023 with 4070, when on sale, was as low as $1500.

I'm daily driving this laptop for a week now, really happy with it. My only gripes are the lack of a numpad (there should be enough space on a 16") and the keys are illegible without the backlight. Battery life is an improvement over my old Legion 5 Pro, but could've been better. But like it is said in the video: there's no other convertible like it :)
@NotebookcheckReviews

I guess numpads are a controversial thing, like for myself and people around me who don't really need it in life, we prefer large laptops without a numpad, so maybe it also depends on who asus is catering to

Really wanted the X13 at first, but suddenly decided to go with the Z13 instead. Turned out that even without the keyboard, the Z13 was still too large and too heavy as a tablet. And the X13 is even larger (slightly) and heavier, and you'd have to carry weight of the keyboard even when in tablet mode. The only downside is the X13 does have larger trackpad, better performance and longer battery life.

Hey Alex! Thanks a lot for the review, it's very informative. I would like to ask you about the mini LED display. Do you notice a lot of blooming? Does it bother you during normal usage (e.g. not while consuming content)? Thanks again and keep up the valuable work!
@NotebookcheckReviews
@NotebookcheckReviews 5 месяцев назад
You are more than welcome. Its got blooming for sure, if you have it in multi-zone backlight, which is the standard for a MiniLED panel. But Asus allows you to switch to single-zone, which is basically like your standard IPS panel, so no blooming at all! So I used it in Mulit-Zone for everything entertaining (movies, games etc.) and Single-Zone for everything else (work, desktop, productivity, video editing etc.)

I'm stuck between choosing this laptop or the Pro Art Studio book 16 OLED. I wanted to get your opinion on it. I'm trying to get a laptop for a live gigs where I will need to be using A LOT of effects on my DAW. I also do some light video editing here and there. But I just love the way the flow bends all the way back and the mini LED instead of the OLED. Is it that much more worth it to get the HX processor over the H?

While I am not sure, I would guess they use the same layer above the display for both pen and touch, so the experience is quite similar. I used the same Pro-Pen 2 on the ProArt Studiobook, Zenbook 14, Zephyrus Duo 16, etc., and it "felt" the same, regardless of the display tech.

Am interested in seeing if they do update this to Intel 14th gen and/or AMD Ryzen 8000 series chips. Also it's too bad that you have to get the 4070 version to get the mini LED panel. It would be nice if there was a slightly more affordable in-between SKU that had the RTX 4060, but still had the better mini LED panel instead of an IPS display.

Thank you for the answer. I will be waiting for the review. But TBH I was more in the yoga pro 9i 14 with the MiniLED. I read the notebookcheck review where it was not clearly stated and some other reviewers did mention about the low brightness flickering. I have experienced OLED firsthand and it is definitely not for me because even if it is not noticeable at first it becomes with time. So, I am more interested in MiniLED now and I honestly don't care about the blooming effect. @@NotebookcheckReviews

Yup, I broke my previous laptop (HP Zbook) and I was looking for a gaming laptop with touchscreen to replace it. Even without the 360X, I had a hard time to find something (combined with either OLED or Mini-LED). There was a Lenovo, but that one wasn't durable enough for me. Found this laptop finally, and it feels sturdy, is 360X, has pen support, and it is a gaming laptop with a normal battery life! Only very big downside is the lack of the pen in the box and the fact that I can connect my HP Pen, but I can't do anything with it. I love the lack of the number thingy on the right and how centered the mouse pad it (two wishes for a laptop for me)

Could you please tell me about the MiniLED display ? Not just this one but as general. I use my laptop at 3-10% brightness most of the time. Now how would the MiniLED PWM flickering behave under 10% brightness? SN: My eyes catch very minor things. Luckily my x1 yoga does not use PWM, my old IdeaPad y700 had some and it really bothered me and gave eye strain even if it was an IPS. I heard MiniLED & OLED are even worse. I can't decide which laptop to go for because of this.
@Valmed87
@Valmed87 5 месяцев назад
miniLED is not for you. Since you notice minor things, you will notice the blooming often when not watching movies or playing games. Since you dont need very bright screens, there is no point in using a power hungry miniLED. So keep looking for oled or IPS with low PW flickering

We will do some more testing regarding this in the following weeks! However, since the PWM frequency in MiniLEDs is much higher than in OLEDs, I would generally suggest testing those. Do not forget languages. ANSI has one key missing next to the left Shift, so some symbols are just missing for many languages, especially those with additional symbols (think öäü). The symbols usually lost are especially useful for coding or maths/Excel work. Or some emoticons. Notably the X16 you had isn't a true ANSI layout as it has the extra key and the narrow Shift. Great review, for a laptop. But, like most reviews looking at the Flow line of Asus ROG's, it was very light on the most standout features of the X16: the convertible use. What makes it unique. I get it, it's a great laptop. Anyone looking at it, gets it's a great laptop. How the hell does it perform as a tablet? It's a 2-in-1, arguable the only one in it's respective weight class. And this review and so many others miss 50% of it's use. Does it game in Tablet mode? It will probably get throttled in a AAA title, but can we play casual games in tablet? Can I use it as a Steam Deck replacement? How does the pen actually perform? Do you see any jitters? Can we interface with top-down games with it? How does it feel to hold it in your lap as a tablet for 2 hours? Such as gaming in bed or on the couch? How's reading a book in tablet? Actually use the other half of it's functionality. Every review on this thing is a gross disservice to this device. Just the same bla bla bla benchmarks I can just google.

First, thank you for addressing my question about the battery life. I wanted to go for an RTX4070 but comparing the performance and the battery life, the RTX4060 seems more reasonable(And I really don't care about the MiniLED. The IPS is good enough for me). And goddamn MacBook's speaker sounds great. I still do think the X13 is much more preferable 2 in 1 due to its portability(both the size, the weight, and the battery life), but unfortunately, the only model of it that comes with 32 GB RAM is with RTX4070 which is ridiculous both in the price and the overall performance that you can get out of the dGPU.

While I would like to see the Flow with a 100W 4080/4090 as well, I would assume it is not a config many users would actually buy, and it would make an expensive machine even more expensive. It would probably make more sense to look at an M16 or something at that point. But I agree, prices are just way too high, but you are paying for the novelty of some of their form factors, which you can simply not find anywhere else on the market!

@@NotebookcheckReviews that's maybe considerate, but a 100w on a 16 inch chassis, is still not enough, if the same asus could make a 150+25w dynamic boost strix scar 16 laptop, why settle for a 100w 4080 GPU, when they can go as far as giving us a 175w 4090 GPU in the flow x16, there's only one logical reason as to why they won't that, dynamic sales, they're simply manipulating product qualities to create an illusion of variations of products ( in this case, laptops) to make consumers buy more than one of their machines, they have every opportunity to make the rog flow 16, the ultimate all in one laptop, price is not the issue, here in Europe, the price of the strix scar 18 with the rtx4090 is ridiculous, yet people still buys it, if there's a variation of the rog flow 16, with a 175w rtx4090, that might eliminate the market for the strix scar, and they know it, so they'll never make such mistake, like imagine if there was a rog flow 18, a miniled display, with the current highest end CPUs, with a 175w rtx4090 GPU, why would anyone buy the strix scar laptops if they're valued around the same price?? Cause they obviously won't be selling such laptop above €5,500

I simply do not think you can put a 175W 4090 in the Flow's chassis. You compare it with a strix G16, which is a MUCH larger and thicker notebook, so I do not think your reasoning is entirely fair here. Physics is still something you can not simply ignore.

@@NotebookcheckReviews as much as your response sounds fair, the thickness level between the strix and the flow series are not that great that it should be a deciding factor or an excuse to make asus deny the flow series an end GPU, the thickness difference is almost irrelevant, if that's the case, we don't mind a lil chunkier flow, not like the flow x16 is any slimmer compared to the lenovo yoga pro 9i to begin with with the same rtx4070 GPU, and the flow x16 has a better thermal solution, making it a a few mm thick wouldn't be a problem to most consumers as long as we're getting better value for the money, the flow x16 remains the most aesthetically pleasing, and ambitious laptop in the asus line up, giving it a 175w rtx4090 GPU will only only make the strix scar series mediocre at their asking prices, keep up the great videos coming by the way, wondering if you'd do a video of any other company that has a miniLED display laptop with a single/multi dimming switch feature, other than asus, thank you👍🏾
