Bought the Flow X13 for my son for film school last year. He’s thrilled with it. For most school work 13”, 3 lb, thin & light, is perfect. It’s even fine for light gaming, but when he has to do heavily film editing or if he wants to play AAA games, plugging in the 3080 XG mobile makes it more powerful than the 5820 i7, GTX 1080 desktop he built for himself 4 years ago.
Are you 100% positive its more powerful? I have a 980ti from 2015 and im only hesitant because not sure if a modern mobile gpu will beat a top line card from back then.
@@SebastianTalbierz It depends on your metric. The 3050 ti should only be a bit slower than the 980 ti. The CPU, would be the biggest reason the Flow x13 was faster than his desktop. The 5900HS is a lot faster than the i7-5820k he had in his desktop.
The fact that it only ship with intel hurt the potential, especially because ryzen win the battery life contest (again) this year. Battery life is really important for tablet / mobile scenario.
This is a very niche laptop, however I love the fact that Asus ROG is pushing the boundaries and making new products that most companies aren’t doing. I bought the Z13 for a few reasons: I wanted to write notes on OneNote and download pdfs on a tablet for college. But, I also wanted a gaming laptop to play games when I’m not at home. I have a powerful pc at home (RTX 3080 Strix and Ryzen 9 5900X) so I didn’t feel the need to buy a powerful gaming laptop. Also, I really like custom mechanical keyboards, so the fact I’m able to detach the keyboard, plug in my custom keyboards, and still play games with modest graphics on 120hz was a no brainer for me. I hope the next iteration has a Ryzen cpu (better battery life), a 1440p display and a stylus included would be nice lol
I considered getting one for similar reasons - have a desktop at home, but travel a lot so the prospect of being able to replace my (very aged) gaming laptop, "Productivity" laptop and tablet with one portable device seemed pretty appealing. Having once been a surface pro user, the concept of a "gaming surface pro" was very appealing. However, handling it in the flesh, the disappointing performance to price ratio and its bulk put me off. Gaming performance is terrible for the price - for its price here in the UK, you can easily get "normal" gaming laptop with a 3070 at RRP or even a 3080 on sale. Worse, performance holds up very poorly against even very old hardware: its significantly less capable than my old Zephyrus 501 with a 1070, which is almost 5 years old at this point. Even low spec games need their settings turned all the way down and run at 720p and many new releases barely run at 30fps ultralow/720p All of that could be tolerated if the portability side of it made up for the performance, which it doesn't really. It is VERY bulky for a surface style tablet and the weight makes it uncomfortable to use in the hand as a tablet. The battery life, even on the integrated graphics, is pretty terrible so it is a very poor tablet replacement. For me, it just ends up being less capable than a real gaming laptop without actually being more portable and being much more expensive for the specs.
@@hz_aimer Pretty sure the screen uses n-trig technology, so any n-trig based pen (e.g. the surface pens, asus pens etc.) will work - but worth taking it to a surface pro store and testing it out just to be sure.
The device is lovely in its entirety. My concern will be the gpu and subsequent strength to power high end software applications 2 to 3 years into the market when newer laptops with gpu upgrades are available. The x mobile controller should be upgradable as well to make the flow z13 more relevant years into its production.
i own it for a month it and it is the best laptop/tablet I have ever owned. Very mobile and powerful device it’s quite unreal you can game on such a form factor
This is the beginning of the end for tablets and laptops. The hybrid detachable 2 in 1 is the future with screen sharing capability for all screens of all types (phones, hdtvs, tablets, 2 in 1 and pc).
Im considering getting this for my mom, because she wants a tablet to play Age of Empires on one and draw with one after seeing my Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. I told her she should get a laptop but she really wants a tablet.
The design looks great and the power is there. However, the proprietary nature of the doc is a HUGE let down. I think it's still better to have 2 seperate devices or to have a universal USB-C GPU doc where the GPU is upgradable and it will potentially work with other laptops/ thunderbolt devices.
@@diasabdrakhmanov5301 I dont know the specifics of pricing policies between europe and USA but I assume the tax in the USA on importing is lower then in Europe, so the price can be lower over there
I had a sony tablet with a proprietary external GPU just before windows 8 came out. When I upgraded to windows 8 I found the external graphics card was no longer supported. I can see that happening with this as well if it lasts that long.
Both this and the X13 would be a WIN IMO, IF they offered a more universal dGPU protocol like Oculink. I've very nearly purchased one or the other a few times...But I can't get over that hump. And now Minisforum has joined the mix witht the v3.
I’ve been holding off buying a console, pc, or laptop cause I figured by the time I moved out there would be a powerful enough laptop/ tablet that I’d be able to do anything with (is that unrealistic or are these options I should legit consider)
If the styling was elegant and discrete like a surface pro 8 but with this specs it would be perfect so it can be a do it all machine Business, work And then fun at home With this look I can’t bring that to see clients Also sisnce they have a port in the tablet that offers direct full speed connection to the mother board they should offer desktops GPU with Thai connectors too for full performance when docking
I’m a new architect student and am looking for a laptop that I could take anywhere and would run architectural softwares smoothly while being able to take notes with it. Is this right for me? Or should I go with the surface pro?
I would love to see battery life with using nVidia geforce now. We all know that, unless you are plugged in, you will not get hours of gaming on this. But how does this do when you have a decent internet connection and use nVidia Geforce now or even stadia. What are we expecting to get out of the battery.
Arent gaming laptops supposed to be plugged in while gaming to get more power from their gpus? Not sure if the case is the same with z13 but have you tried runnin forza while its plugged in?
How come videos like these never state the battery life? They always say shorter or longer than (insert here) but they never just say the battery life that they tested. It’s so annoying
You should expect bad framerates when you're running the newest Forza at 1200p and Ultra settings. Lower the settings and change resolution to maybe 800p and you'll see far better performance. I've had a previous ASUS 2 in 1 tablet for a few years now and I love it, but I've always been disappointed by its performance (since it uses integrated graphics). I wanted something along these lines when I was looking for the one I have now. Maybe I could sell what I've got and upgrade to this. This would be amazing. Exactly the type of device I've been wanting. Not as powerful as my gaming laptop, but with the ability to use DLSS in some games, playing at 720p-800p with some decent antialiasing and it'll still look great for gaming on the go. I wish I had a better job so I could just afford this bad boy. I'd love to get this thing.
I work offshore and decided to stop taking my laptop due to space and travelling weight. So for the past 3 years Ive just taken my Samsung Tablet S7 with me. Which is ideal for films/neflix but not for gaming. So would this be a good option? It would only be games like football/motorsport manager. Nothing gfx heavy
It can play anything on the market just not ultra settings some AAA games may need to be run on low - I work offshore too and want a tablet / office / gaming machine :-)
I have a question about the name of the pen compatible with the device + can I buy an additional keyboard? And what is the name of the keyboard compatible with the device?
the specs really doesnt make sense. for the one with 3080 egpu model which is GZ301Z-ELC214W, why the hell the 2k screen is 60hz? asus should sell it for the 120hz FHD panel version.
Anyone know why in the U.S. around Christmas/New Years 2022-2023 the model offered by ASUS is only an Intel I7 CPU? I tried looking on Amazon, Best Buy , B& H but no I9 model only I7s?
This isn't worth it, trust me. It is really cool, but you have the think about the major downsides that completely ruin this. The heat that this thing puts out is probably enough to cook burgers, and it doesn't have a big enough fan to keep the internals cooled down enough and enough heat will kill the pc. Regular gaming laptops get super hot with powerful fans, imagine how hot this nugget would get.
Can this computer run most games well enough even if they’re not perfect would you recommend a different computer for the same price or is this computer still worth getting?
I just got this and it runs every AAA game, but in low. Medium works but you'll notice stuttering. For what it is, it's great and you have the option of purchasing an egpu to increase graphical fidelity.
When all Companies makes things Not only this. They just want to Rip people off with sky high prices. Not many people will buy because of it . If the price was low then more people would buy.
Z13 Tablet is an unpolished diamond with low battery life because of powerful CPU + GPU combo > Asus should have used AMD APU instead of Intel chip + removable battery design for tablet for max portability by the end-user.
I want a game pyramid with half a controller sticking out of one side of it, and half of a controller sticking out of the other side of it. So I can set it on my lap or on my stomach/chest and game in bed. Now that's practical 🤑
Why use a proprietary dock when Thunderbolt can already do the same thing? The power would be the only advantage I could see, so this is a cool idea, but not worth it.
