ASUS ROG G751JY Gaming Notebook Overview 

everytime i see a gaming notebook review or overview on youtube i always see a few idiots in the comments section saying "why spend 2000+ dollars on this when you could get a desktop thats better for cheaper?". Firstly (without factoring oc at all) the 980m is pretty damn close to the 980, so the gab between the price performance ratio of this laptop verses and the desktop counterpart is not so big anymore. Secondly not everyone sits at home everyday, not everyone stays in one place all the time so stfu. Some people travel a lot. And something like this is amazing for them.

nice of asus to include a battery back up, if the power goes out, you can still use it for 5 minutes with the included 6000mah battery

Ahhhhhh, my old boy.... Retiring it today. 7 whole years it served me in tip top shape, letting me game, render, and photoshop with the best of them. Thankyou for everything.

I'm still rocking one of these in 2017 (also a Razer and a Ryzen Desktop) ...this one is a bit bulky, but still a powerhouse.

This Laptop is going to be pretty nice, actually just ordered mine 2 days ago. I currently have the G751J model that handled games/video rendering with Adobe premier and photoshop stuff like a champ. I gave that to my son as I wait for my new monster to arrive. Great review and can't wait to get this thing broke in ;)

These high end ASUS gaming laptops are unbelievable! If you can afford one of these, you are getting a better laptop than a MacBook Pro. I don't game, but I used it on memory draining programs like Adobe video, audio and photo editing. The ASUS high end gaming laptops are terrific in my estimation. It does not get any better. You can replace your desktop with this. I don't think you will get much better than the ASUS high end ROG's. This is not just a gaming laptop. This is a great laptop if you are doing serious work that demands a lot of resources. I wish you would have also given some credit for the uses of this laptop that do not involve gaming. This is a great desktop replacement. It is something you can take on the go even though it is a bit bulky. The heft is worth it for what you are getting. Why anyone would want to take 1400 dollar laptop out regularly is beyond me, but you can. This laptop is a performer. I have had a MacBook Pro and would take the ASUS over it....

Is asus using proprietary software to record or is the record button a macro for something like fraps, obs, etc?

If I had this and had the opportunity, I'd probably reprogram that dedicated steam key to automatically launch whatever game I'm obsessing over at any given time...

Should I buy one of tgese in 2019? I mean it still has really good specs and the only old thing is windows 8.1 pro, which u can update

My main concern is not being able to remove the battery. Does this mean that i have to take it off charge whenever the battery is full? Or does it matter if I leave it on charge when full? It would be a pain having to keep an eye on the battery levels when gaming. The battery on my current laptop has no charge at all due to it being charged when full. It only lasted about a year or so.

Without sounding too critical (but I'm going to be anyway), I really dislike the 'persona' Linus uses in these NCIX videos. The "go-nowhere-crazy-talk" rants are really annoying. Please kindly remove it from the scripting..

Asus, MSI or Sager?

What I'd like to see Linus review is the MSI GT72S Dominator Pro G Dragon Edition packed with the desktop class GTX 980.

Would this be the best laptop out there for Web Application Development? I'm one who doesn't like closing web browsers much and likes leaving many applications open even when I'm not using them and leaving the laptop running 24/7 except for times when I transport it which isn't often at all. I love the idea of having 32GB of RAM available to me for that and having a few local VMs running all at once. The monitor screen doesn't look impressive at all but for most of it's life, I'll be using three external monitors, two of which would be using a USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter. Would love to know of any other laptops that might be better! Haven't found any anyother laptops that has 32GB of RAM! Very impressed by that alone!

Soo.. Spend 2200 dollars on junk that can't be upgraded.. Or.... Spend 2200 on a real computer that allows you to upgrade as new items come out and will be 10 times as good. People don't even go anywhere to game anymore so what's the point.

Asus sucks. get the MSI 980 sli with mechanical keyboard and an almost 19 inch display for your gaming needs if you absolutely have to game on laptop. idk why you would because desktop PC is much more ergonomic and comfortable. and cheaper when it comes to performance.

Finally there is a reasonably priced, reasonable performance gaming laptop

I love these reviews. They are great for a guy like me, who doesn't... Really... Know anything about computers.... But, luckily, I have you guys to help me out! You are good at explaining stuff in layman's terms, and this will definitely be a 'buy' for me once i have the money saved up. Probably by the start of summer!

I own this laptop and let me say, Every single game I threw at it works great with 60fps+. The keyboard is amazing and the screen is great too, also the laptop NEVER felt hot/warn when touching the keyboard and I don't any fan noise ether. The reason that I've gotten this laptop over a desktop is because I move alot, I'm an international student you see and I usually travel allot and my dorm is pretty small. I bought the ASUS backpack which I also use for University (Helps carry my mouse/wiimote etc as well). Now for the things that I dislike 1. the power plug comes off very easily (Not a problem if you're on a desk and the laptop is stationary) 2. The shadow play key is REALLY easy to press, it takes some time to get used too. Thats pretty much it

This monitor is compatible with the usual gaming laptop ribbon cables? I'm looking to replace my. CMO1720 panel with one of those IPS panels, it is actually possible it might fit, but if anyone has any information about which side is the ribbon cable and the compatibility with the standard ribbon cable of AUO and CHI MEI panels it would be greatly appreciated.
