Sincerely, thank you doing what you do. Producing videos in such an accessible way for all to see, learn and benefit from at the end of a long work day is impressive. I have solved two essential PC/repair problems thanks to the guidance found in your channel.
NBF: I watch several other RU-vid repair channels, and most of them have issues when it comes to Mosfets. They find the problem, but it has normally taken out the CPU and/or GPU in the process. I noticed you have a pretty high fix rate with this (especially with Asus), but also know that you don't post a large chunk of your repairs, since you are so busy. Just wanted to know what your fix percentage is for this particular issue (bad Mosfets). FYI, thanks for being such a positive influence on this community!
I just changed my opinion about asus Rog when i saw your content how useful is that we appreciate your efforts to show us what the company’s hide inside their products.
Love the video Alex! Years ago in my home town on a local street ,a lady had been pulled over by the police . She had a tag on the front of her car that said, Too Blessed to be stressed. Well I looked at her face and to me she looked stressed!
You should do a video on which laptop companies you rank as having the least issues to the company had the most issues. Id love to hear your experience
I need to get that mic setup you are just using a wired mic or is it wireless? please let me know what you are using as im just starting to post videos on my repair channel :) thank you so much I am finally confident enough to start my own after learning from youtube and mainly from your channel
As I clicked on this particular episode, an advertisement came on for Home Depot. It was showing all the different people sitting in their cars and trucks waiting for the 6AM opening time so they could all get the materials they need for their different projects. About 2 weeks ago, I saw one of those "law enforcement audits" on a channel where a guy who was definitely a carpenter doing the same, early waiting in a Lowe's parking lot to get materials for his project. The officer "suspecting" that this guy, sitting in his truck with the engine on to keep warm and possibly listening to the radio, knocks on his window to ask him just why he's there........."looking suspicious".................waiting for the store to open................so he could get his work materials to go and complete his carpentry job. He had work tools in his truck. There were already other materials in the back of his truck I assume from or for other jobs. And yet, this officer suspects him of committing a crime and detains him. IN fact, he calls for back-up. The guy's civil rights are violated as the officers had NO probable cause so there WILL be a law suit coming and some hopeful re-training of the officers involved. IF this same officer had come to this HD on the day they were filming this commercial, I'm sure everyone "waiting" in the parking lot of the HD would have been detained/arrested, questioned, Constitutional laws violated and had police back-up in force there to handle the egregious criminal violations..............of......................waiting......................for ....................the...................store...................to open. Great Show.
as i look the video i see that motherboard has been repaired before that same mosfet has been changed so i see every day this is more commercial video for selling things on internet[ great job]
+ $5 more for shipping weight, + $40 or more for proper insurance. I don't expect any technician to have a "test system" for every model, but it's cool when they do, and not every problem needs a test system.
What is up with MOSFET production. Bad board layout(heat failure)? Bad engineering? I'm seeing these things failing everywhere. Reminds me of the capacitor plague.
Hi Alex, love your videos. I have a question. If a mosft on the vcore circuit is short is means that the 19V reach the cpu? Or if not 19 an higher voltage than normale 1V? If yes, how can che cpu survive?
I remember that you asked customers to send only boards before, when "big boss" was in vacation for one month and so no one would disassemble the device. Is board probably here since that time?
Every Asus laptop should have a large sticker on the box that claims "This new computer is shorted, please send to NorthridgeFix for a "Better than Factory" repair." Sincerely, Asus. Cheers Alex.
Is there a distinct time frame between when the owner / customer first buys the ROG and the laptop having a power problem? How quickly do the MOSFETs fail?
Sir when I plugging charger ..then screen is flikring so go for diagnosis then he told me that power supply issue from motherboad...so please tell me is there any chances of repair or it will only replace..? Please tell me
they send in just the motherboard, thinking that you won't charge them the stripping down and assembling fee? Or is it purely the extra cost of postage?
Man can you fix ROG laptop GL702VS gpu memory ? The gpu is getting an error 43 kai screen shows weird horizontal lines. From a web search i believe is a gpu memory fault.
"Taught the board a lesson but now we have to teach the customer a lesson..." Agreed.. no point in not mailing the complete item only to receive the board and find that there is another unrelated issue thus paying more to ship again for further diag.
I'd bet that there are other computer fix-it companies that won't even accept much less work on a computer or device that has already had BAD work done on it or that was sent in pieces incomplete. But there you are, being the staunch and dependable and super conscientious business man highly skilled and devoted to customer service and satisfaction still taking on these "projects" from HELL. I do wonder what you tell them after you've hopefully found the problem but can't fully know if the repair was successful because you can't see it all in one piece. I wonder how many call-backs you get from angry customers that receive the part that you spent all that time on to repair and then for whatever reason, it doesn't work. And then, there you are on the phone or sending an email to that customer explaining what should be evident that you could not know for sure if the repair worked or not as you couldn't see it working in the device. I hope you get the money upfront first. I'll even bet that this guy paid for expedited service........................ Great Show!!!! Oh, I saw another computer fix-it channel with a guy that could be your clone. Don't worry, I only watch with the sound off and fast forward the repair just to see what he's doing different. So far, he's not THAT entertaining. I mean, he doesn't have cute children come by with energy drinks or even juggle or film himself doing the latest Tic Tock dance craze. He's just a clone of you............I mean, if you were a boring guy............WHICH you're NOT! OK! gotta go!!! BYE!
5th comment. It's seems to me after watching alot of your repairs on Asus motherboards is that almost always it's the mosfets. Do you know why they always fail. Or have a theory why they do? Thanks again Alex for a great video. Blessings to you 🙏👍
Proabaly death throuh heat. The mosfets in my 2020 Asus ROG Strix G17, while gaming, the VRMs can get as hot as 85°C, some hotter, some colder. There's not much that has to go wrong for one of them to get allocated more power, maybe accidentally, and die due to overheating
And also regarding the idiots who think you can successfully run from the cops, as they're doing this, they're racking up countless additional charges. They are also risking killing someone while fleeing. What's crazy is we've all seen people do this for stupid things, like a revoked license, or expired tags. Talk about making things 100x worse! You can't outrun a radio. Love your work! So happy to see you being so successful.
Another great video Alex, with board displine being the main topic. Can anyone tell me what the light blue paste that is applied on top the mosfets 1:52 seen to the left ? what is the reason? as I see it on so many boards in various videos.
@@HazeAnderson Not quite, it's not the flux that is used to desolder the components, I'm referring to the light blue paste 1:52 in this video on top of the mosfets, it comes from the factories like this I think.
It's thermal putty. Instead of thermal pads, more and more companies are migrating to this kind of product, that behaves as a thermal pad but has advantages, like less stress on the components because it will flow under pressure, but it stays in place after compression. It also does not lift the heatsink from the board, like when you use a 2mm thermal pad but the gap is 1mm. If you use thermal putty, you can use 2mm of putty but it will compress to 1 mm or even less after a while. You can check laird tputty 508 or 607 to have an idea. But i don't know the brand that asus uses. But it seems very liquid. I usually use laird tputty 502 and it's like plasticine.
asus motherboards are cheaping out on components or they are running the system with thin margins using mosfets nearing its maximum handling or they just have bad supplier of mosfets😁
Well you have the heatsink and fan assembly, just assemble what you have and try video out on HDMi / DP, i guess you have a powerbrick, keyboard and maybe a power button somewhere in your spareparts bin :)
It's really odd that ASUS makes such good reliable motherboards but such lousy unreliable notebooks and worse it seems like it's the same thing of bad MOSFETs over and over.
@7:15 Why run from the police? Ha! I once worked a 1-year contract in Hawaii. Oahu, not the largest island. At least once a month, local news reported an ongoing chase. At such a frequency, I really had to question which side had the lowest IQ: the criminals, or the police who would start each chase as if it had never happened before?
We are smart customers we develop a pattern: do not buy an Asus laptop unless you want to drop it for repair. Every single case you fix , the same failure mode. Asus must stop joking with customers patience!
