You know what would be great, a review that touches base with gaming monitors that are best of both worlds for both art/ photo editing and gaming. Now a days it seems like it is a needle in the haystack.
You should definitely check out our Table Tool! We made some changes to this one for you to add the Gaming and Media Creation scores. Feel free to customize it even further to help narrow down your choices! www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/table/74046
Something else to keep in mind when reviewing these 1440p monitors for console gaming is their HDMI port. This monitor's HDMI 2.0 port might technically support 1440p HDR @ 120Hz (as it does on PC) but the console forces you to enable 4K with downsampling to display any HDR content and won't run at 120Hz w/ HDR on this monitor.
Funny how usually the Asus are more expensive for the same that others offer, yet here I am having ordered this monitor because it was ~100 euros cheapest than all alternatives (got it for 260 euros)
Asus simply asks for too much for their monitors. The VG27AQL1A has lowest retail price of around 450 Euro, the Strix XG27AQ for 530 Euro and the Strix XG27AQM for 800 Euro. You can get comparable alternatives for all of those 100 Euro cheaper.
1:00 What a way to cheap out on components, Asus! I was super interested in this monitor precisely because of the combination of high refresh rate ELMB sync and higher brightness (because ELMB dims the screen out) but because of the DP1.2 I'm totally skipping out as forcing 120Hz gives no benefit over my current Acer monitor.
i bought this guy the other day pretty much on sight, probably should have watched some reviews. but im gonna turn on the over drive and other settings you recommended. I dig the monitor the way it is, but getting up to the 170 hz instead of the 144 its capped out at currently will be nice.
The s2721dgf is a great monitor on sale in Canada during Boxing day; but the back light bleed is savage, and color accuracy is all over the place on these units.
Hi Visal, this monitor is currently on our suggestion list, so if there's enough interest, we'll buy and review it. Feel free to go vote it as well! :) www.rtings.com/monitor/suggestions
I own this monitor. And IT HAS AN ISSUE WITH WAKING UP. I have to turn it on after wake ups often. It's random and definitely a bug. The worse thing is the support response about it: they stated it's expected behavior... Google reddit about this issue, I'm not alone. My cheap 100 dollar doesn't have the issue with the same PC, but $800 has it, and "this is expected". Upvote, please, so people can see.
My has issues where sometimes it'll just randomly go black for a few seconds when I'm using it. It doesn't happen often but it's really annoying. The new 4k version they released also has a weird issue where it won't recognize the DP signal and just shut off. It makes me think it's an Asus issue.
@@armen1136 I think there is some complication with DP standard. And other manufactures like LG had similar issue on start. But later they fixed it. Asus decided to answer "it's a feature, not a bug". Sure, monitor wakes up with computer but then displays "no connection" -- feature:) And now it's much better with newest firmware. But not completely solved still.
@@VladimirGolev I just realised that this is what is happening to me for the past few months. Could you tell me Where can I find the update, and which firmware version you installed that fixed this issue?
Would you be able to provide a link to the product you purchased? The VG27AQL1A we bought and tested definitely is not curved (it's flat). As for settings, we list some in our review that may be worth checking out! www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/tuf-gaming-vg27aql1a
Between the Asus VG27AQL1A vs the Dell S2721DGF which one is a better purchase? They seem to perform pretty similar and I managed to find these two monitors for around the same price but i am on the fence on which one to pick
@@1987Psco I bought the Asus VG27AQL1A i got very lucky with the IPS lottery, mine looks considerably better than the review unit used in their website the contrast seems very close to 1100:1, i have barely no visible backlight uniformity issues, only a small area at the top right corner of my screen which unless i look at a dark screen at max brightness in a dark room, i cant even see it. it has ridiculously low input lag, and the response time is pretty good aswell, the ELMB sync (backlight strobing) is alot better than i expected, it feels like a crt, it reduces alot of the motion blur HDR is alright, some games looks pretty good with it on but of course nothing special its just 400 sRGB mode is a joke, with no srgb clamp (since windows wont apply an icc profile system wide just on some apps) you can somewhat tweak the RTS mode to get closer to an sRGB gamut but i just leave it on racing mode. it has speakers, which are pretty much laptop speakers.. its useable. one thing to note is the 170hz mode on this monitor is a factory overclock through the OSD native max refresh is 144hz (which the native refresh, according to the panelook should be 165hz), and HDR is limited to 120hz because of the DisplayPort version which is 1.2 and not 1.4 as it should (which the Dell is) this Innolux panel "M270KCJ-K7B" (is used in alot of monitors ,Acer Nitro XV272U, ASUS ROG Strix XG279Q, Gigabyte AORUS AD27QD, BenQ EX2780Q etc) but the TUF seems to be doing better in most cases while using the same panel. its also apparently a quantum dot panel which most doesn't seem to be advertising. overall i am very happy with this monitor, i can safely recommend it. its a massive jump in quality and performance from my old 1080p 60hz TN monitor that i was using for 12 years. the only thing to remember is that, buying a monitor is a lottery, you could get a better version than mine or worse.
@@corollavirus4age how is the monitor now man? Is it good for Xbox series S? What is the HDMI port? Do you still recommend it? I'm searching for a good 1440p ips monitor, I found a lot, like gigabyte l, Acer, Samsung..... Basically I'm lost in monitors world
@@ChordaTympani553 iam very happy with this purchase, Has been a solid experience so far. It has HDMI 2.0 which should be able to do 1440p 120hz or 4K 60hz (if you want to downscale), and the ultra low inputlag is fantastic I can safely recommend it!

Saludos desde México - Cancun, por favor ayúdame con estos 2 monitores, ¿Cuál seria el mejor? "Asus Monitor 2K TUF Gaming VG27AQGL1A ZAKU II Edition" o Dell S-Series Gaming Monitor (S2721DGF), muchas gracias
They're actually pretty close in terms of performance when it comes to the color depth. You can compare them here: www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/asus-tuf-gaming-vg27aql1a-vs-gigabyte-m27q/15402/19668?usage=3623&threshold=0.10
Without testing it we really can’t wait what the differences are unfortunately. In a situation like this, it’s best to reach out to the manufacturer for additional clarification. Sorry about that!
Hello. please answer which monitor is better: asus tuf vg27aql1a, msi g273qpf or gigabyte m27q. I really want to get a monitor and the choice is between these 3 and I can’t decide which one will give me a more beautiful picture, because in other characteristics they are extremely similar, but the picture itself... I can’t see it live, because in my country there is no showroom

Generally speaking it's a very good option for watching content. If you're in a dark room though, you may want to look for an OLED or VA panel. The contrast and black uniformity on this monitor are worse due to the IPS panel it uses.
So I have the 32 inch variant of this monitor. I love it except for the black levels. I get thats its an ips and doesnt have high contrast but the blacks are veryyyy gray. Anyone have advice?
Unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do as this is expected. The ASUS VG27AQL1A has a low contrast ratio, which is expected from an IPS panel, and the local dimming only slightly improves it. Blacks appear closer to gray when viewed in dark rooms. so, If you prefer something similar with a VA panel and better contrast, then check out the ASUS TUF Gaming VG27WQ1B.
How tf gigabyte is "better alternative"? "Brighter in SDR"? That M27Q has 350 candelas instead of ASUS' 450. Moreover, if I'm buying a HDR monitor, I'm gonna use it lmao. Who cares about SDR with it. Colors? If you use your PC everyday it's obvious you will calibrate setting by yourself. Then there's a lot of revievs telling Gigabyte got bad pixels in about 1-2 years of using. You can find more patology if you want.
Since we haven't tested it, we really can't say. Without having our own data, we don't like to speculate and risk giving out incorrect information. Sorry about that. In this case, it might be best to reach out to the manufacturer or check out the specs listed on Acer's website!
I just got this monitor about a week ago and been using it. I love it already, though, i'm not sure if i'm using the features well. It seems to have a yellowish tint like a filter at low brightness. And is ELMB sync basically variable refresh rate?
Hi man, i have been searching for a 2k IPS monitor for my series S and I found many of them like Samsung gigabyte Acer...... And this monitor, do you recommend it for series S? Did u face issues with this monitor?

If it still has no Display Port Deep Sleep configuration and is waking up 8-10 seconds, constantly messing up the desktop, like its predecessor, then no thanks.
It seems like there may be a disconnect about what MPRT is. If you want to learn more about it, this article may be useful: www.testufo.com/mprt If it's still unclear though, don't hesitate to follow up!
@@RTINGSdotcom Bro, why don't you answer me? I know the difference between MPRT and GtG, the only thing I need to know is if on Asus monitors in the OSD menu, the MPRT is called ELMB? I know an HP monitor, where in the menu it says to activate/deactivate MPRT, and that's what it's called MPRT, but in Asus monitors, where in the technical specifications it says if the monitor is MPRT, and then in the OSD menu, I don't see no word like MPRT, just ELMB, and this is what I need to know, if the MPRT in Asus monitors is called ELMB, I await your response, from your engineering testers, thanks Rtings.
Is there any point to 170hz in desktop usage? Should be really smooth but any 30fps or 60fps video you try to watch on RU-vid or wherever is just going to look stuttery, right?
Why you not mentioned Asus Vg27aql1a has built in speaker and it has 10 bit color depth also nvidia g sync certified now I am so confused tell me which should I go for I want for gaming and productivity like photo editing and video editing.
i cannot figure out how to overclock the monitor. HDR and overclocking is greyed out in the monitor settings, also going into the windows settings there is nothing there to turn on.
Hey Vincent, Just to confirm are you using DisplayPort or HDMI? We're asking because it can only be overclocked to 170hz over DP. It's also worth noting that the max refresh rate with 10-bit over DP is only 120 and 60 over HDMI. So, these are things to keep in mind. For the settings on our end though, all we had to do was enable overclock and set the max refresh rate to 170!
@@RTINGSdotcom I have this monitor and right now in advanced display settings it says it's on 10 bit YCbCr422, 2560x1440 144.01 Hz. It's hooked up via display cable.
Overall, they're very similar. Gaming-wise, the Gigabyte performs better because it has a faster response time, at max refresh rate and 60Hz. It also has wider viewing angles, gets brighter to combat glare, and offers more features like USB-C input, a Picture-in-Picture mode, and an integrated KVM.
@@robsmashed Thanks for the suggestion but OLED will probably never be viable for me as I leave my screens on 15-20 hours a day with lots of static or slowly moving content so burn in would probably be a real thing for someone like me in a short amount of time anyway. Would love for there to be a burn in warranty but we don't have that in my country :/ Wouldn't have to worry about it then haha.
You guys should STOP with your "reviews" already! You can't even get half the basic specs of the products right when they are right on the product pages!
