I watch a lot of the videos produced by Alex at NorthRidgeFix. He never ever removes a shorted cap without replacing it. He even has a capacitor notebook he sells and uses to replace the bad caps. Sorin's work is fine for what he charges, its really inexpensive for his labor for some reason. Ive always been surprised Sorin doesn't use "BoardView" more often. Alex assess the problem and goes straight to "BoardView" to pin-point the problem. He is 10 times faster than Sorin

@@user-pe3yi7hn1s right... also alex skips some things as a no fix after some attemts... sorin sometimes spends hours and hours for few bucks. i like both to watch but alex is more precise and straight forward but sometimes i also like sorins dodgyness :D

@@user-pe3yi7hn1s Alex at NorthRidgeFix makes good and intersting video he make it seem very easy to repair a pc motherboard plus his videos are edited perfectly but sorins is the OG he choose the hard way and show us the real time that the pc board repair take and for me i am a beginer and i will prefare sorins way.

i agree. most shops woudl actually break your laptop and even steal and replace parts from it if they can. thats why i try to fix my own lol

I think his microscope is good but the lighting creates some glare

@@yosef4208 Well, pls compare it to northridgefix's image quality. He has the same microscope (now he has a newer black version but is doesn't matter, he used the same blue one for long) but the thing that record the image is totally different, and has a waaaaay better image quality, just look at the sharpness etc.

@@Lackooo84 he use some antiglare lense/stuff to microscope make it very clear, i think sorin's microscope is okay, but just the glare make it bit blurry

@@hatemaqil7649 Don't think so, if you check closely you can see that framerate is also laggy. Check northtidgefix's older videos when he didn't use the anti glare light yet. Image quality/resolution/small details etc. is waaaay better.

It's not actually always the case, I'm not sure about the logic behind it, but I've fixed a couple of gaming laptops with shorted CPU/GPU mosfets just by replacing them. For this reason, it's crucial to inject a quite low voltage, because if you leave that mosfet there (Ofc you have to, you didn't spot the problematic component yet) and inject some voltage, the IC on that power rail will get hot, in these cases either the CPU or the GPU. It's really a gamble, but worth trying!

First set the voltage to zero, then short the leads & increase the current to your target. Then release the leads & increase your voltage to the desired value. In that way you can avoid sparking!😀

would the current get lower as the battery charges a bit?

battery was fully dead. so current would be very high initially charging faster. when it gets to certain charge level, it will resist the charge current. or think of it like this, when it is empty, potential (V) difference is high. current flows faster as there is not much resistance (V=IxR R down so I is up) like when you inflate a tyre, when empty, it is easier to push air into it, once it is near full, it gets more difficult/slow to push more air, as the pressure (resistance) is gonna try to prevent more air in. same once when the resistance goes up, your current goes down. (adapter V is fixed) so what changes is current/resistance.

I suspect the system it will lower the charging current depending on the system load.

Hi, 74 degree is not too much for this configuration. Did u replace termal greese? If yes try to download new firmware from official site and update it. Also it can be because power supply doesnt work correct.

Hello from an interested viewer. I had a very similar finding to a similar build as laptop. I managed to trace the fault to a video chip. The internal solder had a partial failure. Only after a full warm up would fail be shown. But I am very curious as to where this unit may have been subject to "over clock" settings? Overclock setting with gaming thruput would perhaps be a causal link to the failure...you see. There could be other cause. The owner of such a unit would face a replacement as motherboard just over 330.US. And where a replacement laptop as i5 build would be as double or triple the board replacement. However the thermal limit is a very "hard fault" with a component as "melt down"....with some hazard. First released as 2017 build, there might be advantage to replace the laptop. Some parts only laptops are available as ebay. In the past, I have gone to such means as to order several, which provided me with spare parts in plentiful number. Here, this requires the patience to fully disassemble the motherboard and all support cables. And some determined commit to effect repair as self directed workbench job to completion. I like such activity and find repair enjoyable. But I have had failure in such enterprise. I humbly suggest. 1. replace motherboard 2. Find a best avenue to replace laptop as the best available options. Thermal defeat might cause burning, huge smoke hazard. I would discard that view. M.

Where as I carry my laptop, such a powerful tool for work, for manage as banking, manage as contact to friends and family. I like them but as device, they can have complex problems. And so many interesting choices. As features, as storage, as connect domain to phone and home control and photo, video end user. And fail as when I spill coffee to keyboard. I did take notice that I had not mentioned battery test. As Soren has demonstrated in his recent post. Perhaps a new battery would be a solution, but may have a cost as could be directed to an upgrade? I bid you fair winds as from half a world away. M.

This is a stupid question that bothers me as well so let me join you in asking. currently, i use a piece of brown cardboard that i cut to size and draw the rough features with a marker. when i remove screw, i punch it into the same location on the cardboard. I can store the cardboard and screws dont fall out. I write a make and model on the cardboard so it can be used another time. This is time consuming and it gives me fear that if something goes wrong with the cardboard, i wont be able to know perfect locations for every screw. This is bad dependence. I need more freedom. Some laptops have every screw marked on plastic like M2x3, but even then you need to recognize that screw as screws are not marked. One device can have screws that differ by type, thread, thickness and length. Put a long screw in a shallow hole and it will short something. How does Mr. Sorin never worry about screws at all?

@@BrainHurricanes it works. But it makes me dependent. Perhaps you are right. Allegedly it was Joseph Stalin, who quipped: "Huge quantity has a quality of its own". Maybe after disassembling and reassembling 500 laptops, the subconscious brain takes over and you can do it right without even thinking, just like you ride a bicycle. In this case, I am handicapping myself by cheating using the cardboard.

TAS5766M - Smart Amp Edit: I just realized you meant the caps near the the cpu supply, no idea. The one i pointed was the closest to the shorted cap removed.
