Hello! Thank you for this very instructive video! Just one quick question: is there a way to replace the touchscreen without disassembling the whole laptop or do you have to do it all, because if it's possible, I'd rather not remove the motherboard? Thank you anyhow
Thanks regazz. Your video was very useful when I replaced the broken touch screen. If anyone else is going to do this repair, here are some points that might help. (1) I bought a new screen from Alibaba (just the glass) for about US$26. This was described as '11.6" for ASUS Vivo Book S200 S200E Touch Screen Digitizer, Tablet PC Glass Touch Panel Black'. (2) I couldn't find a source for the correct cut-to-shape adhesive, so I bought (eBay) two rolls of double-sided rubberized tape for replacing cell phone screens (it's 3M industrial tape cut to width) - one 4mm wide and one 2 mm wide). (3) At the point where the video completes the dis-assembly and is about to start re-assembly, you have to go a bit further to remove the touch screen. Be careful with the electrical connection because there is a very soft aluminum tab that can tear easily before you reach the zero insertion force connector for the screen. (4) The glass is glued directly to plastic frame and getting the broken glass off the frame was quite difficult. I used a hair dryer and a flat metal blade of the type sold for fixing cell phone screens.(5) After cleaning all the old glue off the frame (using goo-removing solvent and IPA) I laid out the double-sided tape, being careful to leave a hole for the camera lens. (6) After some trial fitting to make sure I knew what I was going to do, I stuck the glass in place very carefully (after removing the protective plastic film). I used some non-stick baking paper to to cover the adhesive and slid this out after I got the bottom edge of the glass in place. (7) I clipped the electrical connector back in place, screwed the aluminum tab back, taking care where the cables run, and then I was back to place where the video starts the re-assembly process. I then followed the video until it was all together again (I replaced the heat sink paste). As a first-time effort, it took me about three hours, but the repair was successful.
Thanks for your comments regarding broken touch screen replacement. Here is an item that I am looking at for my Asus touch screen. It already has the glass attached to the plastic bezel frame. smile.amazon.com/Flesser%C2%AE-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-TCP11F16/dp/B00RV4CKY2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1422808419&sr=8-3&keywords=asus+x202e+digitizer Is the adhesive you refer used to glue the actual glass to the plastic bezel frame? I was hoping by buying this item I could avoid the adhesive issue. Also, did you have to remove all of the components shown in this video to replace the digitizer or is it only necessary to remove the back and a few items. Thanks.
knbrecko The item listed on the link does appear to have the touch screen glass already attached to the bezel, but you should check with the seller. If it is already attached, then your repair would be much easier than the way I did it. Fixing the glass to the bezel was easy enough (with the correct adhesive), but removing the broken glass from the bezel was difficult and took me about an hour. So if you count time as money, buying the complete assembly would be well worth the small extra cost. However, you still have to remove almost all the internal components of the computer in order to gain access to the hinges. You need to be careful to avoid tearing the very thin aluminum flap which is glued in place to cover the zero insertion force connectors that join the printed circuit tongues, which you can see one the bottom of the illustration. I re-applied heat sink compound where the cooling fan unit attached to the CPU. Just take it slowly, and keep track of where the screws come from because they are not all the same size. I got to the end and found I had one screw left over, so I had to go right back to hinge-fixing stage. It might be worth taking a few pictures as you proceed.
e2b Thank you very much for your quick and complete reply. This information is very helpful. I had previously installed an SSD drive and replaced the wireless adapter but those modifications weren't all that difficult.
+e2b can you help me ? I got the same issue you did. I followed almost the same process. But I didn´t glue the bezel and glass with ruberized tape. I used the two sided simple( plastic ) tape. Then I put on sides the back of the glass the old two- sided adhesive ( that one that goes between the lcd and glass) to the that came originally with old digitilizer. And nothing worked properly. The touch does respond but it acts strange way , as some areas are being touched simultaneously. Any idea ?
hi, i want to do the same, but a i don't know the model of my digitalizer screen, i saw on ebay that there are 2 version. how did you know the screen model that you have to buy? where did you buy it? please, i need you help. thanks.
Hi, I called the ebay seller. I don't have time to check it right now because I'm on my way to work. I'll get back to you tonight and let you know. :-)
how hard is it to remove the mouse track pad? I have to replace the keyboard and I'm going to purchase the complete new keyboard with new palmrest, just have to install the orinal trackpad. Great video! what would you recommend for a SSD harddrive as an upgrade?
Clearest video I have found for taking this apart .....Just cracked my screen yesterday. I have this exact model but unsure what I actually need to replace. Do they sell just the glass because it seems that is the only problem. Don't know how to check digitizer?
Will this teardown work for the q301la as well? I upgraded my wifi card and I believe I bent the connector somehow, so it doesn't the range it's supposed to. Do I have to take the whole display assembly apart or can I get to the antenna easily?
See edit below. I bumped my laptop (X202E) off the coffee table while vacuuming. Everything works still (thankfully), but now I have the dreaded "white screen" due to the LCD ribbon cable being loose I think. Do I need to perform this entire dis-assembly just to try and re-seat the ribbon cable? I hope not but will make a good weekend project if so. Awesome vid by the way! EDIT: Just did this dis-assembly on an X202E. It was just a loose cable connection on the back of the LCD, which required a complete tear down and reassembly. Threw in a hybrid drive while I was in there too. My laptop is back to normal and a little speedier now! Many, many thanks for your video!!!
Robert Wagner it depend on witch side of a cable you got a disconnection. ... didn't read edit first!but I AM SO HAPPY you fixed your laptop with a help of my video! Thanks for share!!!
Hi! Your work is really good, your video was useful for me, but actually i have an Asus S400 and when i started to disassembly I realized that the screen doesn't have the same structure as the S200 model. I need to disassembly because I got a water condensation between the lcd and digitalizer. Do you think you will make a video for the popular Asus s400? Meanwhile, do you know anything about this model so that you can give me some instructions? Thank you so much.
Hello. My screen flickers on my X202E when I open the lid. Is that caused by a loose connection? While this is not a problem right now, I'm afraid it can cause problems later. I really like that notebook, and don't want to part with it as of now :)
I have replaced a broken glass panel on one of these units, but the touch screen now exhibits this bizarre "fireworks" or "shotgun" effect as if it is experiencing phantom touches all over the screen. We disabled the touchscreen driver to at least make the unit usable, re-examined the ribbon cable (and other) connections, and all appear to be sound and correct. Would you have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this particular issue? Is there a sensor or calibration step necessary when the glass is replaced?
Need to replace the keyboard on an ASUS Q200E. The S200E disassembly video looks very close - thank you - but doesn't get to the keyboard section. Apparently one must take everything out to reach the keyboard mounts. ASUS will not provide or sell the Service manual. I would appreciate any advice or links.
John Lorens Hello, yes, Q200E is pretty much the same, I guess some finish is different, but overall is the same. The reason why I did not removed a keyboard, because it is actually non removable part. I mean you can rip it out but it is somehow glued/soldered (with plastic) to a palmrest. Since that particular palmrest/keyboard there was no need to break it basically.
Hello!! I have s300ca vivobook model! Which is very similar to this laptop! My question is that where is the keyboard connector be?? 3 of my keys on the key board stop working and I would love to fix it on my own and thank you
mine is x202e and have a crappy copper sheet heatsink!!!!! WTH those have this heatsink?? that does not have any freaking sense, mine laptop have thermal trottle at idle! that is so frustrating! where can i buy this heatsink?
Hi man, do you know what glue i should use to replace the digitizer? Because it has glue, and i want to put a new one digitizer, but don‘t that glue. Can i use a adhesive??
I'll love to have the tool you use for dissambling the notebook. (electric screwdriver). can you please tell me the brand and model so i can buy one. I live in south america and I haven't see it here to buy it. I was planning to buy it in internet. Thank you
hi, i wonder if you could help ? i've just replaced the lcd and digitiser on my asus (with many thanks for your video assistance) and now there are a few keys not working, they were working before - i would be very grateful for any ideas you could pass along ? thanks
afraid not, it seems to be only some on the top row, i had a slight issue with my screws getting mixed up, wondering if i have put an incorrect screw in that this could be causing the issue
im replacing the digitizer. I took this apart last year. I have the q200E. the problem is the clip for the digitizer is missing. do you know ha work around? i tried to find a control board for it but its sold out online
regazzz Sorry im talking about the digitizer control board wel the clip fell off for the board i taped it and put it together but bubbles come on the screen. when i use the touch functions the computer acts wonky. That mean i need a new controler board as I can't replace the clip correct?
I cracked my digitizer and I am going to have to replace it. How hard is it for someone who has dealt with desktop computers? Also, am I going to need anything else than the digitzer screen to correctly do this job?
+malakius there is basically 3 ways of fixing it. 1st is to get only a glass digitizer part. Remove a front part from the laptop. Unpry cracked part from the front bezel and glue a new one back. 2nd get a whole bezel with glass and basically exchange it. 3rd Get a whole top part and replace it. I would probably prefer 2nd. If you will watch this video, you should have a better idea on how to remove a digitizer and bezel part. There were no glass removal from a bezel.

+malakius I am not sure it is possible to remove without taking it from the base. You can always try it, but if the hinge cover will be too close to a palmrest, it would not pop out.
regazzz What I mean is that if I can remove the cracked bezel without having to take out the bottom cover, battery, hdd, usb port and just do it by prying open the bezel from the top and bottom hinge. EDIT: I'll see if I can do it like that. I just don´t see the point of removing everything just to change the bezel. I am not even taking out the screen. The screen is absolutely fine.
+thomas corday 1) do that when battery is empty. 2)unscrew cover 3) unplug the battery - should pop up from the motherboard - can be extremely fragile and some plastic part may break either on motherboard or on the connector, CAREFUL! (power cord should be unplugged too) 4) use the same screwdriver as you used on a case bottom cover for a battery
Critiicals Mc Not unless you are willing to de-solder it with a rework station. It's BGA, and unlike LGA and PGA, there is no pins on either CPU or socket but rather tiny balls which is soldered to the socket. Even if you would solve that issue, the motherboard would most likely need a custom BIOS to recognize the new one. In any case, the cooling of this laptop is barely on par for this 2-core i3 at 1.8GHz. Whenever I play 1080p-videos it gets to 90c and steps down to 900MHz, and that's up here in Sweden.
+Infotec Tecnologia just Open Device Manager then look up for USB Input Device in the Human-interface Device that makes your touch screen function. Just disable one at a time. then test it out. if you disable it you might find it very convenient than losing your entire physical touch screen. if you want to function it again, just re-enable it and you are done!
Hey, that's easy and you can see how to in this video. Basically first of all you will needto drain your battery. To avoid at least some type of possibility damage. Than unscrew lower cover and unscrew and unplug battery. That's it.
+MarzzXD no, it's soldered in unfortunately. But replace the HDD with an SSD and you will improve the speed of the laptop, it's the only upgrade you can really do here
hi, i hope you can help me about my doubt. i want to change my screen because it is riven. but i see on ebay that the screen digitalizer has to version (tcp11f16 v1.0 and tcp11f16 v1.1) do you know how can i know what model i have? my asus is a s200e-ct158h. the only way to know what screen model i have is taking the laptop apart?
I checked on eBay and I don't see a difference between v1.0 and v1.1. Cables looks the same. On the other hand you can always write down a message to a seller. And eBay is pretty safe place to buy parts.
regazzz finally, i bought the version v1.1 and i could replace my digitizer correctly, thanks for your video, it helped a lot. If someone wants to replace a digitizer, you need a adhesive tape, because the digitizer is glued.
MagnifiqueRarity mines stuck with the 2gig I was thinking about putting Linux on but it was just the touch screen drivers that have stopped me the ssd will go in at some point
regazzz yes eventually i purchased a whole palmrest with keyboard and reassembled my notebook into it. It's a shame though, i think it's unacceptable that you can't replace the keyboard on a notebook.
Marco Iseppi hi could you give me a part number please. My keyboard is not working also. I maybe a bad connection because I opened the back and many screws were missing. None holding the hdd and some missing in other areas, I'm guessing the person who opened this thing before me might have not connected it fully. Mine has very little use. Where in the video can I see the keyboard connection lead?
+popsy3k usually units for video are anyway not working. I am using screwdriver for speed ( I know how to make video faster for you but personally I don't like a terrific speed up hand+screwdriver movements on other videos I watched) Anyway it is a good advice for anyone who fixing his own laptop or doing it not for long. Thanks
but wait please i need your help , i hit the graphics card of this laptop by screwdriver , by mistake when i were trying to clean the fan , now when i power it up the screen dosen't work :( , is that mean's its the time to dispose this laptop ? , or there is a solution maybe ?
How hard did you hit it? Are you sure that a memory is placed all the way in a memory slot? Or maybe some video cable is not in the place? You may check on external monitor if you still have an image. If all cables intact, nothing on external monitor and you hit video chip real hard and damaged it - than you probably need a new motherboard. :(
yes i hit it hard :( , and the memory of this laptop is attached to the mother board , and every thing is set , and about the new motherboard , don't worry :D , i bought a lenovo notebook , and now i hate asus forever :P
right off the bat this is a bad vid you have 3 different size screws for that bottom plate alone and 5 different size once you get into the inside but the poster just mixes them all up so when you put it together you will damage the laptop most likely
There is simply no way to replace the keyboard as there are many components that require drilling to remove. This ASUS laptop is a nice example of junk TAIWANish engineering and any units that need service should be send back to ASUS and let them deal with their own cretions. Unfortunately ASUS does not have a store in the US that sells Refurb Q200E thus it is a little more tricky but very possible to get thiscrappy product back to them;)
L0RDdigital agree! I hate when keyboard is not replaceable. I mean, yeah, you can rip off a keyboard, but it will be bad and too much work. Same as UX32 and other models. I don't know why they do such thing.
