The options are suggested are really good ones, but since you are buying this for your father go for Dell, they have really good after sales service. The model i would recommend is the new Dell Inspiron 5590. but yeah, Mi, s145/s345, Acer or vivobook are good options as well. Choose depending on your budget and company preference.

Unfortunately, no way to tweak the display. You can play with gamma but i am not sure if it will help. Try searching online in some forums if you can.

If you are only looking for good screen to body ratio then Dell XPS 13 9300 is the laptop you want. Its battery backup is good too!

The screen is the one place where we spent the majority of time on a laptop. For me i would like my display to be perfect since i am coming from a macbook. It's not that bad, if you look at it straight. It's only when you turn slightly you can see the screen behave in a random way and you can start seeing washed out colours.

i have this laptop.... and don't find any issues with the screen. for someone whos sensitive to looking at phone and laptop screens i like the dull light.. doesn't cause migraines and eye pain. there is 0 noticeable difference with the lifting of the keyboard.. not sure what that is all about. battery life is okay. volume could be more impressive..
